I always said I would not let my pets suffer, and would make the decision that they could not - that when life was more painfull than not, I would not let them suffer because I was too wimpy to make the decision. I had to make that decision for my dog Allie - a wonderful 14 year old husky/german shepard/golden mix. At 90 lbs, her hips had gone and she could no longer stand. A painfull decison as she was healthy otherwise. She had been bravely hauling herself up with here more powerfull forequarters for a while, so her hips had atrophied. At that weight, I couldn't lift her to take her outside and although the vet had some treatment options, they were just delaying the inevitible with no real improvement possible. I held her in my arms as they put her to sleep, and cried like a baby. She was a great dog, with heart to spare. She lived a long and happy life and didn't suffer, I have no regrets. I just wish that option was available for me - I want my long term care provider to be Jack Kavorkian! Better a good death than a bad life.

Is There Something Specific That U Regret Not Doing Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indid you want to belong to a social club but couldn't because it was "worldly" and witnesses don't get involved with the world?.
did you not go to college simply because witnesses say it's bad?.
did you deprive your kids of things because you were a "good jw"?.

Going to college - no question about it. I ended up having a pretty good job anyway (Systems Analyst), but I would have had more opportunity and quicker had I gone to college. At 53, I am planning to take a few classes, just because I feel I will be more will rounded with a few college classes under my belt. I have my own business now, and don't plan to get a degree, just want to be more well educated.

I'm a dork too. I was taking pictures today at my shop ( a co-op of 20 shops). We had Santa, I was dressed as Mrs. Santa (can you imagine - an ex-jw dressing as Mrs. Claus). We were taking pictures of the kids with Santa. Anyway, I went to print some pictures from the digital camera and I can't figure out why it won't work. I had never actually printed directly from camera to printer, so I thought I didn't know which button to push. I asked the elf, and then I realized there were two cords (both just alike). My cord was pluged into my camera, but not into the printer. DUH!!!! Little elf girl just looked at me like I was a comple idiot. Grrrr. Anyway, other than that, it was a lot of fun.

I'm a Cohen Brothers fan also. I would have to pick "Oh Brother, Where art thou?". Although I like Fargo and The Big Lebowski a lot too. Don't know if they are the best movies ever made, just my personal favorites.

Be honest, Do you really Enjoy Christmas?
by BluesBrother indansk's christmas tree thread got me to thinking .. in this house we do not celebrate since my wife is still a die hard dub.
i have no complaints about that, it was our joint choice for decades and i an the one that changed .but as witnesses we were always given the negative view of the holiday time :-.

"People feel that they just have to do it although they do not really want to"
If I didn't want to, I wouldn't. After 30 years of not doing it, I do want to. Our Xmas season starts on the Saturday before Thanksgiving when our town has Starligting (the Star over Castle Rock is lit for the first time in the Season). We go down and have Chili at the Firestation (Fundraiser for Charity). We watch the Star light up, listen to the carolers and watch the fireworks. My Business is right downtown and in the middle of the festivities so we put out cookies and cider for our customers. I see a lot of people I know and have a great time.
"They get so stressed by it all that they secretly admire us (J W's) and wish they could join us and not celebrate"
No I don't. I do the things I enjoy and don't stress me, and don't do the rest. I am busy that time of year as we have the cul-de-sac block party. My hubbie is Santa and I'm Mrs. Santa, so we put togeather gift bags for the 24+ kids in the neighborhood. I like to decorate so I do a lot of that. Christmas is all about listening to pretty music with my hubbie, sitting in front of a fire, with the lights on the tree twikling and if I'm lucky, watching the snow come down.
"They eat too much, drink too much, waste money on presents that are not wanted and then spend all year paying it off"
I pay cash for all my presents, and buy simply. I did most of my shopping is last Saturday in 2 hours. I usually have one new item, one vintage item (I'm an antique dealer) and one handmade item for everyone on my list (except my one grandson, who gets whatever he asks for, naturally). I don't eat or drink any more than at any other time of year. Christmas is a wonderfull day for me. When I was a Dub, it was a lonely miserable day for me.

My dog Allie (100 lbs of husky/shepard/lab mix) lived to 14. My, Cat cleo is still going strong at 14, she is a tiny thing, so I expect she will live quite a while longer.

Shower or bath?
by Quentin in.
would you rather take a shower, or a bath?
i prefere showers with water hot as i can stand and i don't mean in scrub up, rinse, out....linger uneder the water is so relaxing...what about you..?.

Bath, mostly. I have a jetted bathtub and use it every day. Sometimes with candles, a good book and a glass of wine. Benefit of being an empty nester, no kids to interrupt. I also like a shower sometimes.

Reasons why I wouldn't get a KM while I was still a dub??
by noni1974 ini never got my km.not when i was a unbaptized publisher ,not after i got baptized.i always wondered why.the rest of my family got theirs but not me.someone would usually hand me one durring the service meeting but i never got one from my bookstudy conductor.. could it be the i rarely went to the book study?
?could it be that i never went in service??
i counted a few hours every month but i never met with the group.. .

I was in the same situation. Not regular in service, missed a few meetings. But even when I was trying harder, I never got the D---- KM. Just wasn't a member of the club. I felt invisible, because even when I was sort of regular in attndance, it's like no one noticed me. Oh - are you new??? No, just the invisible witness.

I would respond to any specific request with the following:
"Wow, I would really like to, but...."
A) I'm so busy at work right now
B) I haven't been feeling well, I think I'm depressed
C) I have some things I need to do, you know family stuff.
Or whatever thing works for you. Smile when you say it and they would have a hard time calling you on it.
