I've been Doc Bob for about a dozen years now. My real first name is Bob. When I meet people at exJW Meetups or at Witnesses Now for Jesus, I am called Doc more often than Bob. That's okay.

How real has your ONLINE IDENTITY become to you?
by nicolaou inmy name is not really nicolaou - i just chose it as an alias like so many of us do.
thing is, people have been calling me nic' online for almost nine years now so who am i to say that nic' is not real.. if i'm ever disfellowshipped i know that one of the first things i'll do is 'come out' on jwd and tell you all who i really am - will that mean that i'm killing 'nic'?
should we all resist getting attached to our usernames and avatars?.

My wife and I are planning to be in Edinburgh for The Gathering on July 25,26 2009. See http://www.clangathering.org/ for details of the gathering. I'd like to spend a week or two. I hope to meet up with some fellow apostates while we're over there.

Tipping your hat to a lady is demonic
by marmot in...according to the watchtower.
i don't have access to the watchtower library right now (i've only got a mac) but i remember laughing my arse off when i read that in an old questions from readers.
apparently tipping your hat to a lady is considered demonic because it shows deference to the lesser of the sexes, a man putting himself below the woman and other rambling "reasoning" about its origins in medieval times and such garbage.

The notion however goes back to Rutherford who felt that it was effeminate to do so:
Leolaia, thank you - I was just looking for that.

Do You Have A Goal Regarding Jehovah's Witnesses???
by minimus innow that you're mentally out of the religion, do you have an expressed goal regarding the witnesses?
do you want to expose the religion for the fraud that it is (like i do)?.
do you want to set up a ministry devoted toward the destruction of everything watchtower?.

1. Dismantle the Watchtower, one brick, one person at a time.
2. Inform potential JWs so they will not become just another brick in the Watchtower (wall)
3. Support those who are questioning, doubting or on the journey out.
4. Inform and support those who are romantically involved with JWs or who have married into a JW family. I've come into contact with more and more of these.
5. Educate, equip and encourage Christians to witness to JWs.

Purple triangle monopoly
by 5go inthis is one i would love to see busted.. jw were not the only ones to get a purple triangle in the nazi camps.
i bet they were not even the majority of the ones to receive them.. .
the purple triangle was a nazi concentration camp badge used by the nazis to identify several un-orthodox religious groups known as "bibelforscher".

"In Sachsenhausen, the purple triangle was also worn by Seventh Day Adventists, Baptists, pacifists, and possible also by supporters of the New Apostolic community, who however, were rarely committed to a camp" - Persecution and Resistance of Jehovah's Witnesses During the Nazi Regime by Hans Hesse, page 72

I am a former elder and faded successfully several years ago - well, until I sent out a letter to all my old friends, but that is a whole other story.
My recommendation: Do not meet with them - especially if they say it is a judicial committee.
First off, there should not be a judicial committee formed until your guilt or innocence has been determined by an investigation by two elders. Reading C of C is not a disfellowshipping offense. You can probably get away with even admitting you read it, but refusing to comment on the content of the book. However, if you meet with them and defend Ray's POV then you have a real problem.
As I was fading, after I had stepped down, the elders made two shepherding calls in 4 years and asked me what was wrong. I just told them that I did not want to get into it and held firm to that.
Check out my website at www.docbob.org and read my Letter 1 and Letter2.
Feel free to message or email me if I can be of any help.

C & P of a post I did long ago and far away:
In the 8/15/1993 Watchtower, page 9, in the article " Why You Need to Attend Christian Meetings", the Watchtower made the following statement:
" Jehovah's Witnesses have consistently shown from the Scriptures that the year 1914 marked the beginning of this world's time of the end and that "the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly men" has drawn near."
An examination of older Watchtower publications shows that Jehovah's Witnesses (or Bible Students as they were previously known) did have NOT "consistently shown from the Scriptures that the year 1914 marked the beginning of this world's time of the end..." Rather, the Watchtower pointed to another date for the beginning of the "time of the end."
In the "Finished Mystery" book, on page 239, the WTS says:
"This is without question a fulfilment of the prophecy testifying to the "time of the end." These physical facts can not be disputed and are sufficient to convince any reasonable mind that we have been in the "time of the end" since 1799."
Also, from the March 1, 1922 Watch Tower:
" The indisputable facts, therefore, show that the "time of the end" began in 1799; that the Lord's second presence began in 1874."
The book "Creation," published by the WTS in 1927 has a very detailed explanation as to why they felt 1799 was the beginning of the time of the end. Here are a few quotes.
Creation
, page 293:"Napoleon began this Egyptian campaign in 1798, finished it, and then returned t.o France on October 1, 1799. The campaign is briefly, yet graphically, described in the prophecy, verses 40-44; and its being completed in 1799 marks, according to the prophet’s own words, the beginning of "the time of the end".
Creation,
page 294"Twelve hundred and sixty years from 539 A. D. brings us to 1799, which is another proof that 1799 definitely marks the beginning of "the time of the end ".
Creation
, page 295From shortly after 1799, the date of the beginning of "the time of the end", we should expect to find an increase of knowledge, particularly with reference to the Bible.
Going back just a few years to 1921, in the book "The Harp of God" says on page 236:
"The time of the end" embraces a period from 1799 A.D., as above indicated, to the time of the complete overthrow of Satan's empire and the establishment of the kingdom of the Messiah. The time of the Lord's second presence dates from 1874, as above stated. The latter period is within the first named, of course, and in the latter part of the period known as "the time of the end."
Another example is from the 1/15/93 WT, page 5 in the article "Caught Away to Meet the Lord'-How?":
" The Watchtower has consistently presented evidence to honesthearted students of Bible prophecy that Jesus' presence in heavenly Kingdom power began in 1914. Events since that year testify to Jesus' invisible presence."
The WT actually taught for many years that Jesus returned (invisibly,of course) in 1874 and that he took power in heaven in 1878.
So, are these just "mistakes" that were corrected in due time, or were both statements from the 1993 WT deliberate attempts to misead the readers of the WT as to what the WT taught in the past?

After reading these two verses, I wouldn't go near the place ;-)
(Amos 4:4) "'Come, YOU people, to Beth'el and commit transgression. At Gil'gal be frequent in committing transgression, and bring YOUR sacrifices in the morning; on the third day, YOUR tenth parts.
(Amos 5:5-6) And do not search for Beth'el, and to Gil'gal YOU must not come, and to Be'er-she'ba YOU must not pass over; because Gil'gal itself will without fail go into exile; and as regards Beth'el, it will become something uncanny. 6 Search for Jehovah, and keep living, that he may not become operative just like fire, O house of Joseph, and it may not actually devour, and Beth'el may not be with no one to extinguish [it],

I was called to Federal Grand Jury duty a few years ago. It went on for 13 months, twice a month, one or two days per session. Being a grand jury we did not decide the guilt or innocence of the accused, but decided whether or not to indict the person. We did a lot of drug cases - I never knew what a problem crack cocaine was here in Maine - and a lot of felon in possession of firearms.
Fortunately, my employer paid me for the difference between the $40 a day that the Feds paid and my usual salary. It was, at the same time, very difficult and very rewarding. I went into it with low expectation, but came away with great respect for the way that the federal prosecutors do their job.
