I used to be so rid with guilt over this because of course they had 'no no' talks on doing this. I suffer from insomnia and so, now, when I can't fall asleep or I wake up and can't go BACK to sleep.....I purposely start a prayer and it works EVERY time!!! I find it very comforting to fall asleep talking to someone I love. Therefore, rather than feeling guilty anymore, I just realize that evidently I find peace & security in praying to Jah....so much so, that it 'rocks' me to sleep!

It's so funny you posted this topic. We were just talking the other night about this holiday. Our original take was: We don't like the meaning imposed behind it......ghosts, goblins, vampires, gory corpses....etc. However, the MAIN number ONE reason we weren't going to do it is because we DRILL in our kids heads every day about how wrong it is to take candy or ANYTHING from strangers. Why would we contradict ourselves and tell them that 'ok, one day a year it's ok to do so.' So, we're very torn about it. Hubby & I are talking about having a costume party around the middle of October (telling everyone no scary costumes & no weapons of any sort) and just making it a fun night for the kids & adults and have them play games and take home a goody bag of candy & prizes. Is that like what the JW's do on Thanksgiving? You know, having dinner on Friday instead of Thursday so that it makes it "OK"....? We're up in the air and would like some "SERIOUS" thought on it...........

Birthdays-Are They REALLY Wrong To Celebrate??
by Lady Liberty ingood morning all and happy tuesday,.
most everyone knows that jehovahs witnesses do not celebrate birthdays.
the reason is that there are two examples given in the bible of birthdays and bad things happened both times.

I have a very bitter taste in my mouth over it all. I was deprived of so much growing up and now is my chance to make sure it doesn't happen to my children. That being said......I will celebrate their being brought into this world not only every day.....but ON the day it happened with great love, joy & appreciation! Jehovah rejoiced at the birth of his SON and watched as everyone celebrated........and he APPROVED of it......therefore, I will emulate HIM not an organization of twisted & selfish minds!!!!
so.......I vote NO to the question at hand!

What Kinds of Weird Things were you banned from or not allowed as a child?
by mama1119 ini could not have a big new kids on the block pin, or wear any new kids on the block pins in puplic becuase it was considered idolatry.
i also could not wear my shoes without laces (it was cool back then) because it looked wordly.
what other strange theings besides the usual holiday/birthday stuff weren't you allowed to do?

My mom was such a liberal hypocrit that I was allowed to hang out (even sleepovers) with my worldly friends but I couldn't participate in holiday projects or parties at school. I was allowed to watch any & all shows on TV, listen to whatever music I wanted to but I could NOT have one of those black 8 balls....you know the ones you asked a question and then you shake it and turn it over and there would be an answer? It was too close to "fortune telling"................I could go on and on and on with this......

Why all the hostility toward WTS?
by hambeak in.
i'm very new to this and please understand, but at one time or another most everyone here was a loyal and faithful witness.. if you disapproove of it or don't fit in as i don't.

Pastor Russel was from the 1800's......segregation, slavery......and Rutherford was a strong, southern man. Most of what you see in the publications are the WT's own perception but there were NO black people in power at that time either.....so, you're question is valid. One thing I do know is that the B.S. book is extremely violent. Have you ever noticed how it's all about wars, killing, fighting etc. How is it we can teach our children about that book, but taking Karate for the sake of self-defense.....really just "PROMOTES" violence in children?!!!

Interesting that you would post this question. I met ONE person in the org. throughout my life that is my best friend now. We're BOTH out of the cult but when we were active, she & her family were the ONLY ones who ever gave us the time of day. We moved to Oregon from the east coast over 5 years ago and the congregation we attended was full of the most self-righteous, cliquish, snobbiest & gossiping-est people I've ever met anywhere else. We have 3 kids and NO family here. My girls are 13 months apart so when we arrived in Oregon, I had an almost 3 year old, a 9 month old and was 5 months pregnant. Once my 3rd came along and we were outnumbered, not to mention juggling a toddler and 2 infants, NO one helped us, NO one invited us places, and NO one included our children in anything. Since we've left, we have made more friends and have attended more parties, events, gatherings, etc. and our kids have been invited EVERYWHERE.......and all by WORLDY people. It's funny how friendly you really become once you let your JW wall down. Bad association spoils useful habits???? YEP, that's why we left the org.....because they are bad & marred people & we refuse to let them spoil us or our useful habits!!!! Can you say B-I-T-T-E-R????!!!!

How do you answer this question??
by LuciousJ inok, i'm now da'd as many of you already know.
it's so fresh that my stomach turns everytime the subject comes up about religion.
however, something that does puzzle me a bit.......is how do you answer people when they ask you the question "what religion are you?
-
LuciousJ
Thanks everyone. It's always good to read a variety of opinions/suggestions/advice. I haven't actually had anyone come out and ask me but, those who know me and what we've been through over the past year, have come out and asked me if I'm considering any other churches or religions and/or what do I consider myself now? I like the simply stated "I'm spiritual, but of no specific religion." Right you are that you do not have to be affiliated with an organization to be close to God or in his favor.
Thanks again-

Ok, I'm now DA'd as many of you already know. It's so fresh that my stomach turns everytime the subject comes up about religion. However, something that does puzzle me a bit.......is how do you answer people when they ask you the question "What religion are you?" I could easily say "I'm a Christian" since that's what the majority of people consider themselves anyway. But, some people aren't satisfied with that. When they say "Yes, but what faith are you?"...How do you all answer??
Just curious,LJ

Gary, We're so sorry and are cheering for you. I have a story but too sad to tell.....too hard for me to type without crying. However, we're praying for you and your partner so hang in there and keep your options on the table always. Research, get second, third & fourth opinions, etc. And.....don't say goodbye until you know you have to.
