Guns and Roses helped me feel numb when I needed to be. As I was disassociating myself and my mother's temper was flaring, I'd hum internally one of their many songs. Think I may have upgrade from the cassette to the CD, as issues seem to be resurfacing...

I just discovered Guns n' Roses
by thecarpenter ini just discovered how good guns n' roses are.
i was listening to a bunch of their songs and i can't believe they wrote so many good songs.
i was a quite a head banger before i became a witness and after joining i avoided a lot of heavy metal rock and a lot of worldly music in general.

Even after 20 years, I feel like an outsider. For the first 20 years, I never celebrated anything but the Memorial.

I did my undergraduate degree via a weekend program which was quite intense and required discipline, mandatory attendance, and lots of research. I did my MBA program via online. I received my degree in 2004. It's funny my former industry didn't 'appreciate' the graduate degree being that it is online. I am in a very different industry that truly respects this degree. I like the online version, as someone indicated, it's a great commute. I met many cyberstudents and interacted, shared ideas, and felt it was a satisfying experience.

How Do I Get Rid of these Thoughts?
by jwfacts inthough i no longer think like a witness i still think "that is what i would think if i was still a witness".. everytime i see a birthday party or christmas on tv i think "ohh, if i was a jw i would think they were pagan, and not really having fun.".
when i speak to someone at work and they say they got drunk or wasted on the weekend i think "oooh, if i was a jw i would be offended by that, but i don't really care anymore.".
i would much prefer to be able to take life for what it is, not constantly compare what it was with what it is and what i am thinking it will be.. any suggestions on how to erase the ridiculous notions that were drummed into me from birth?

It's been about 20 years since I stepped foot into a KH. I have not pursued any other religion, but have been married (for the last 18 years) to a Catholic which has exposed me to the religion. My wonderful mother in law helped me step foot into a church (and promised I would not be struck, lol). I feel like an outsider with alot of things. My parents are no longer JW's nor my sister. We celebrate the traditional Christian holidays. I get very annoyed at my mother for making a huge deal over Christmas and birthdays (hello where were you 20 years ago ); I do not enjoy the celebration on my family side. However, enjoy the celebrations on my in-law side.
Yet I do feel like an outsider at so many events and celebrations.

My first blood donation
by sass_my_frass in... has been scheduled.
i've been to the clinic to watch mr frass donate, and it was pretty confronting.
still i've realised that if i'm happy with taking blood, i should be happy to give it too, so i'm going to become a donor.

I love that show too. As someone mentioned, not sure how the Elders would respond, but I got two. I can show them off only when I want. Again, be sure it is a design that you want for the rest of your life. I did not get my first until I was in my late 30's (but wanted one since I was 16). I am working on my next design

Being a newbie here, I concur with everyone's sentiment. I was born into the religion, so I didn't realize that I was 'missing out' until older. My poor sibling was 7 years older than me; I think her response would be much different. However, as an adult looking back, I depise the do as I say not as I do attitude, and the gossip that followed.
