  Friends are studying with the JW's

  i was studying spanish a little while ago - had to stop because of finances but became friends with the spanish teacher and we keep in touch, see each other now and again.

  i just got a message from him:.

  "hola louise, i would like to talk to you about 2 things, about the jws, as we are following this fatih, we find it interesting, we haven't been baptised yet, i want to make sure before making a mistake and the other thing that allan and i wold like to talk about is starting your own business.....".

  I would try to find out what is drawing them to the JW's and address that. If appropriate, I would tell anyone through my studies you find falsehoods/untruths, changes, coverups in all religions. What matters is what they do about it. And most important, as a baptized JW, for whatever reason, if they question or change their mind about anything, they will be shunned and expelled. Friends will be required to ignore you and treat you like you are dead, just because you question. Ask if that is a reasonable, healthy way to live?

  today is the anniversary of the death of douglas adams.. adams was one of the most insightful skeptical thinkers and the author of the fantastic series, "the hitchhiker's guide the galaxy - a trilogy in four parts".. professor dawkins said on his death "science has lost a friend, literature has lost a luminary, the mountain gorilla and the black rhino have lost a gallant defender.".

  Bordeaux for me! Scotchmallow. Vanilla cream. (I like creams.)

  Is the butterscotch the brown sugar one? Love that too. Sadly I love them all as well.

  Had a few pounds of Godiva from a vendor around Xmas. It's not bad, but love Sees more. Oh, butterscotch lollies...since I was a wee one.

  you read the title correctly.. my daughter is a prosecutor who right this moment is prosecuting a dui crash with major injuries.

  the defendant--the drunk driver--just tried to place an awake magazine with her while both of them were in the courtroom.. .

  Candace Conti Trial and the Realm of Confidentiality

  like soft+gentle, i just finished reading the trial transcript.

  during the process of digesting what i read, i was reminded of a concept that i learned, ironically, during a phone conversation with an elder in the service department.

  i dont remember what the issue was that i was calling about but i do remember him mentioning the concept of a "realm of confidentiality.

  @wha: an elder told me that if a known pedo moved into the hall, (the example was of one convicted and did his time), the elders would not notify the congregation, parents etc. He said they were told to "watch" the pedo, make sure he never worked in service or were around the children. He also said they gave a special needs talk advising the congo to keep close to the children, watch them, work with them alone in service.

  He said that people were confused because they understood there was something "up" due to the special needs talk about being "on guard", but didn't know what they were supposed to be on guard about.

  He felt it was a bad policy and just shruggged his shoulders.
