So glad it went well and that chapter is behind you. You did it smart and respectful.
Congrats on the new job!

Congrats on the new job!
for the first time in years today.
to say that it took me five minutes to read the whole thing would be to flatter the rag.
it doesn't even seem to contain actual articles any more, just headings and bullet points and pictures.
Doesn't it makes sense as a business to have a more simplified magazine? Could articles like "Your Servant the Pencil" and "Are Pinatas for Christians" keep anybody's interest today except for my elderly mother? How can they possibly present new and interesting information after the glut they put out twice a month, 30+ topics per Awake, including "Watching the News" for the last 60+ years?
IMHO, times are different and streamlining printed material would be a good business decision. They don't care about the readers. But they know they have to print something...they are a publishing company. I was wondering 15 years ago how in the world could they keep the amount of articles up. You can get more inane tips and news in the daily news. And I would think that they would go light on meaty articles with the scrutiny of the exJWs, and stick with fear mongering to keep the troops in line.
can you think of any reason why they would start making bethel volunteers complete i9s?
(us work authorization forms).
no compensation is received so why would it be considered employment?.
They are likely checking to see if the applicant is eligible to work or be in this country whether paid or unpaid
Exactly. I just went through a I9 audit with DOHS. Scared the beejeebers out of us.
It can be plain ol yellow cheddar to Manchego, goat cheese, fresh mozzarella...oh I just love cheese.

Housing and food is considered renumeration if it is in exchange for work.
Have you heard that Bethel is requesting I9's for volunteers? I can tell you for a fact, they have an excellent accountant on staff...he would know.

Our east coast office right off the exit just past the energy plant in the opening scenes. I get a kick out of seeing it every time.

Oh no! He was really great as Tony Soprano. One of the best series ever.
RIP James.
i purchased a condo late last year and due to my personal schedule, i wasn't able to redo it to my preferance until a few months ago.
all the heavy work is done.
now just replacing electrical outlets, fixtures and such.
Good for you. I didn't know what to do with my bound vol either...ended up recycling them. I have a small bookshelf of a few things. Which reminds me, time to move them to the bookshelf in the garage. Need more room for the diet books.
Congrats on the move!! When's the housewarming party?
one of the most persistent myths on this website is that jws are already in decline, the rot has set in, and the descent of the watchtower is inevitable from here on in.
unfortunately the facts do not bear this out.
jws are still increasing even in most developing countries, and they are still growing worldwide at a faster rate than the general population.
Well sir, that was revealing. Edited to add: No wonder.
Also, FT pubs are working like crazy to get their "time in" (one of my FAVORITE JW sayings), before the service year ends.
Toad ya. The numbers are BS.

sbf, are you saying half of the current number of eligible pubs have come in after 1995, roughly 4mill? (I apologize for not knowing the numbers, I'm an accountant and the last thing I want to look at is numbers outside of work...even my own.)
I hear from my old hall that the potential elder pool is rather shallow. The elderly ones are just now gone, some moved out, and from the 20-30 yr olds...not much interest in gunning for appointment. Most of those are happy with MS status. They have made one appointment in the last few years, and the guy has turned into exactly the fellow he used to complain about when he was a MS. C'est la vie.
I've always thought the way to disable this organization is when they lose the elders and FT pubs. The R & F don't mean anything, pioneers do and reducing the hours is a perfect way to shore up those ranks.
