(waves to darth) Do you guys remember an underground cartoon called "Haircuts of the Bible?" It had excerpts of WT pub headshots.

Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

Did any of you guys hear a story about a Bethelite taking a WT car out at night to show some visiting sisters the city and then getting in an accident?

My arch nemesis was cooked carrots. My mom, bless her, cooked them in orange juice to make them not as sweet and more palatable to me. But I pretty much hated them. Her line, "what are you going to do in 'the persecution' TM , and we are in prison and all you have to eat is cooked carrots!" Me: "I'LL EAT THEM THEN!" BTW, I didn't get by with it. I had to at the very least eat a bite.
It occurs to me, now, how strange that is to hear as a little kid...that you are going to prison...at any time.
I also was reminded just last month by my JW SIL how stubborn I was as a kid because I refused to eat my spinach one night and I had to sit alone with it cold in the dining room while everybody else was in the livingroom watching The Beverly Hillbillies. 50 years later and I'm still hearing about it. Family forgets nothing.

How much have you changed as a person ?
by Phizzy ini was a born-in, and in for over five decades.
in the comparatively short time since leaving the wt for good, for good in both senses !
, i feel i have become a very different person, in quite radical ways.. how do you feel you have changed ?.

That's a very good question.
Although I'm incredibly happy I left WT, and grateful every day for the freedom and the new friends I've found, there are some changes I'm not crazy about. With the loss of 95% of everybody I ever knew, I find myself numb in areas and to people I would not have expected...just really no feeling. I know it must be an involuntary defense mechanism, but it surprises me. I also have heard I am more serious, which bothers me...and I want to work on that.
It's like double whammy....absolute elation of knowing TTATT, then incredilble loss of everything familiar. It's a little hard to make each day count like we are supposed to, but I'm working on it.

Here's what I learned at our DC.....
by sir82 inwhen people say "armageddon may come, but not in my lifetime", that is a "satanic inspired error".. how do you overcome it?.
why, looking a it that way, adam's rebellion was less than a week ago!
jesus was here on earth just the day before yesterday!

Man, those buzz words...
One thing we can say, they are consistent with their material. I'm having a deja vu of the afternoon session and the echo through the arena with these statements. {{{shiver}}}

Holy smokes! Thinking of all you in the flood area.
No doubt dubs will spin the flood as Satan trying to prevent the DC.

What on earth happened to the magazines?
by slimboyfat infor the first time in years today.
to say that it took me five minutes to read the whole thing would be to flatter the rag.
it doesn't even seem to contain actual articles any more, just headings and bullet points and pictures.

Doesn't it makes sense as a business to have a more simplified magazine? Could articles like "Your Servant the Pencil" and "Are Pinatas for Christians" keep anybody's interest today except for my elderly mother? How can they possibly present new and interesting information after the glut they put out twice a month, 30+ topics per Awake, including "Watching the News" for the last 60+ years?
IMHO, times are different and streamlining printed material would be a good business decision. They don't care about the readers. But they know they have to print something...they are a publishing company. I was wondering 15 years ago how in the world could they keep the amount of articles up. You can get more inane tips and news in the daily news. And I would think that they would go light on meaty articles with the scrutiny of the exJWs, and stick with fear mongering to keep the troops in line.

I9s for volunteers
by dissonance_resolved incan you think of any reason why they would start making bethel volunteers complete i9s?
(us work authorization forms).
no compensation is received so why would it be considered employment?.
-
Dagney
They are likely checking to see if the applicant is eligible to work or be in this country whether paid or unpaid
Exactly. I just went through a I9 audit with DOHS. Scared the beejeebers out of us.
