People turn back to the religion they know best, when in distress.
by free2beme inas a teenager, i was not real into the religion.
i went to meetings, lived by my mothers rules, and had a lot of witness friends.
on the flip side, i had dated nonwitness people in high school, was sexually active, drank and partied on the weekends and hide it well from my mom.

The thing is, this is so common. As much as people will say they dislike the religion or they do not believe in it. I have seen time and time again, people return to that religion or what ever religion they were raised in, when times of distress happen, as it is the comfort zone or what they feel most basic in believing. Has anyone else experienced something like I mentioned happen in my life. I know a few former Witnesses locally, that had things like this happen. Just wondered if others on here, did the same.
What you describe is a behavioral stress mechanism, when people are under stress they revert to behavior that they previously found successful, thats very typical of humans. I work with juveniles in detention. Part of our mission is to teach them new more effective behaviors when under stress. That is what you have to do for yourself, through self improvement. For the rest of our lifes outside of the Jw's our life is our own. If a person doesnt know what he/she stands for they will fall for anything. Everybody serves somebody or something. It's up to you to program yourself for what that somebody or something is. I would recomend regularly reading self help books feeding your brain some pure mental protein so you will be strong when the winds of change blow in your life.
On a side point to this topic, I remember when my father died of cancer 3 years ago. He was never a Jw. As far as I know he was never religious. People say their is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole or and atheist in a life boat. But my father died a terrible agonizing death, especially the last 2 weeks of his body shutting down and till the end he told me he never made a deal with god. He said he wasnt going to make no deals. My father was raised in a broken home. He probably never had any religious upbringing, so he didnt fall back to making any deals with god. He had no religion to turn to. All he new was what he could do himself. In my eyes while he had terrible pain, he had tremedous personal dignity and integrity.

One thing for sure is that we will be very busy! It will be a very big job cleaning all the debris from the destruction of Christendom's temples of worship to satan
I've been out so long, since 83, I was probably deluded in my fantasy of paradise, I was thinking since God is a miracle worker, he would miraculously clean up the destruction and create a paradise new earth for us to live in. It's a good thing I left back then because I didnt realize I was going to have to do all the work. I just saw the part about hanging out under neath my fig tree with the lions and snakes.

Letter from a dear friend and elder.
by AK - Jeff ini had sent dale a copy of my da letter, and a personal one.
i showed only kindness, though disgust with the organizations' moral bankruptcy and doctrinal miscues.
yet the robotic mind sees all things in a twisted light of god/organization.

Hello Jeff. Sorry you have to experience reality shock mid life, Now you know what the fabric of your friendship was made of. There was a song that came out in my youth maybe yours too, I am a rock by Paul Simon, That kind of describes life at least my life. I dont know if it works for you or not. In this life I've had many acquaintences but few friends if any. I got my wife of 33 years. For 33 years she has been my friend. Well see what tomorrow brings tomorrow.

recommended reading
by Chia ini haven't read as much as i would like to, so i'd like to catch up on some reading, especially relating to female ex-jws.

Hello Chia, I have been out of the organization since 83, I would recomend both of Raymond Franz's books Crisis of concience and Christian freedom.
For non jw books. I would recomend your erroneous zones by Dr. Wayne Dyer. It can help you get your thinking right for the rest of this life. It has been out for maybe 30 years you can probly find it in a used book store in papper back for a dollar or two, but it is excellent.
For enjoyment I would recomend. Animal farm and 1984 by George Orwell, Watership down, by Richard Adams, Johnathan Livingston Seagul, by Richard Back the Tao according to willie by willie nelson, Children of the matrix by David Icke, How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carneige, The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason, Before bying you can go to Amazon.com and read a review and see what other people thought. Nowadays thats what I like to do to see what kind of vibes a book has before spending my time with a book. Happy reading.

What Do People Hate Most About JWs???
by minimus ini think most "worldly" people consider jws a nusiance---especially on a saturday morning!
they hate being bothered by peddlers at their door.
some people can't stand the witnesses' smugness and self righteous attitude.

The reasons you mentioned are first and foremost in my book. Then personally what I hated most was having been one for 32 years, the huge hole it made and left in my life.

Things are so bad that people are dieing from having too much food!
by Elsewhere inthe wts loves to talk about "how bad things are getting", yet they always fail to talk about problems like this: there is now so much food available in the world that people are dieing from eating too much.
for the first time in history there are more obese people than starving people.. .

People will always be dying over something. If they ever come up with a religion that can wipe out death today, here and now, then they will have something. Just think one day no deaths anywhere in the world, then two, then three, and on and on. Then we would know who God is and who his true spokesmen were.

What do you think about gays and abortion now.......................?????
by vitty inwhen you saw the wt for what it was and realized it was not the truth, how did that affect your thoughts on subjects like homosexuality or abortion for example.. did you start to think differently suddenly or did it take a long time ?.................or maybe you havent changed your minds on what the wt condemns.. i was quite shocked at how i accepted my teenage son was sexually active and i talked to him about condoms and this being an important thing in his and gfs life and where they sure they were ready.
i didnt tell him not to do it !.
actually i think i always had my thoughts on different subjects that werent in line with the org, i just pushed what i really thought to the back of my mind.. there are many different subjects name one that you relate to.. .

On Subjects like homosexuality and abortion, its not just the wt I disagree with. A lot of organized religions have the same stance on the two topics. One reason I can see that religion would be against both issues is that it diminishes the number of new recruits for the religion. If someone is born a homosexual and conflicted he may have the need of religion to forgive him for his sin of homosexuality. Children that are born into a situation of being neglected, impoverished, poor, uneducated are prime recruits for religions everything will be alright in heaven mantra.
Organized religion seems to specialize in granting forgiveness for individuals exercising their biological, hormonealy motivated body functions. Quite a racket they got there. A little feel good sex is bad and can send one to hell or eternal darkness, but killing, maiming, war, in the name of god thats a good thing. Give us all a break.
Personally, if someone is a homosexual and they are not trying to be homosexual with me or a child under lets say 18, then it doesnt bother me.
If two people have had sex and created a life, a life that they are not prepared to cultivate and nurture then abortion may be the more humane alternative than giving birth. I think other means of birth control should be advocated than abortion.
None of the fundamentalist anti abortion bible thumpers that I have encountered had ever adopted any children. I suspect most of the vocal fundamentalist anti-homosexualist are most likelly latent, or closet homosexuals. There's always evidence of this poping up in the media on a regular basis. Theres something about people hatting what they themselves are. Along these same lines their is reference to Hitler having been a jew. Of course reflecting upon this, I can see how all the above mentioned hatred is religious inspired. Religion can be a wolf in sheeps clothing, giving lip service to the notion of love and violently acting out hatred.

Revelation 17:17 Meaning please?
by purplesofa in15and he says to me: "the waters that you saw, where the harlot is sitting, mean peoples and crowds and nations and tongues.
16 and the ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire.
17 for god put [it] into their hearts to carry out his thought, even to carry out [their] one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of god will have been accomplished.

What meaning does this have to you? How did you understand the FDS to interpret it?
It doesnt mean anything to me. I am free!
What ever it means to anybody else, aside from some form of popycock, I bet you does't hold water.
