what is stopping gb member from syphoning some cash to some offshore account and disappearing from brooklyn to live a good life?
i don't believe that all gb members believe all the shit found in their publications but if they could get their hands on some money couldn't they just disappear?

The LoveDoctor is right. One does not have to be rich to live the "good life."
Members of the G.B. are treated royally wherever they go. They stay in the
best places, eat like kings and are given "golden handshakes" by the faithful.
They are so removed from the real life of the average JW they have no idea
of how their rules and regulations affect the lives of their members.
jah gave us such a loving organization, full of brothers and sisters, full of unity no matter the race, culture, gender or background, the loving faithful and discreet slave with jesus christ as its mediator, the channel, between jesus and us, why should we seek assoication with the world???.

Its a myth that Jehovah's Witnesses compose a loving and caring organization.
One only has to experience the petty and vindictive atmosphere of a Kingdom
Hall to realize how superficial the entire organization is. Frequently, if a
"brother" or "sister" comes under the scrutiny of the elders the gossipers
spread the word and the members turn a cold shoulder toward the
suspect. When a member is disfellowshipped or disassociated the
entire congregation shuns the offender even if that member was
an old friend or close relative. It's hardly what one would expect from
a Christian organization!

Ray was an extraordinary man. He and his wife were very hospitable and
kind when we visited them years ago. He was very charitable toward those
in the organization. His two books are essential for anyone who wants to
understand the "inner workings" of the Watchtower organization. He's
a person the Watchtower should have treasured along with others
like Ed Dunlap. At least we have their important legacy they left
behind.
my youngest sister is the only person in my jw family who has had any real contact with my husband and i and our baby.
for the first year she cut us off too but then after a while she seemed to realize how horrible it was and she opened up to us.. well, she is very easily influenced by the family and so she cut us off again.
she tried to feed me the line about it being for our own good blah, blah, blah.. here is an excerpt from how i replied:.

hey i'm wondering if anyone can give some good advice on how to step down in the safest way.. i have served as an ms for a number of years, but can't do it anymore.
i know too much i want to fade in the future when i get some family things straightened out.
i can't move right now so that's out unfortunately.. what should i tell the body?

One can insist on important personal matters as a reason to step down.
However, don't be surprised if those in the congregation treat you as a
pariah once the announcement is made that you are no longer being
used in this capacity. The members in your congregation will suspect
the worse and will treat you accordingly.

I wonder if this is one of the reasons that some groups like the
Essenes rejected the whole temple system with its corrupted
priesthood? Herod was the builder of this temple. I am sure
he had no compunctions about including astrological signs
in its design. While the apostles had been overawed by
this grand temple complex, Jesus, in contrast, foretold its total
destruction. Mark 13
i haven't been to a meeting in years and wonder what is the reason given for pioneering, or whatever else you can do.
i mean if you are saved by just heart condition, or two hours per month why should a person put in 45 or 90 hours.
i wish i would have asked a lot more questions, instead of just signing up.
Monthly reports, house to house solicitation, service meetings and many
other aspects of the Watchtower's organization is so foreign to what
the early Christian did and believed. We recall that Rutherford initiated
many of these things based upon business practices....not faith.
Under him, congregations were "companies." Leaders were
"company servants." Progress charts were prominently displayed
on stage and reviewed as part of a "service meeting." While many
of these things are now forgotten, the same mentality remains
in the organization. And Jehovah's Witnesses are the local
business representatives of the Watchtower Society.
is this a newer hard line stance or has it been similar for the last couple of years?
there clearly must be a problem in this area in regards to nations that appear to have far stronger family units not adhering to the previous warnings, the wt article definitely has a barf alert comparing jeehobah's feelings when the angels rebelled in heaven!

The Watchtower is a "slippery slope" when it comes to the official view
on this subject. When a person asks if the Watchtower encourages
shunning as part of its policy, it usually says that it is a personal
decision made by each individual member. As with other matters,
it puts the responsibility upon its followers, not upon itself. What
the Society doesn't tell the public is that its policy has been
clearly understood and followed by Jehovah's Witnesses for
decades.
