Seems to me the only time Jesus got really miffed was in the temple. I mean, we're talking ticked enough to toss tables, fer cry eye!!! Just because there was money changers in the temple? Well, what about all the money changing (oh! I'm sorry, for legal reasons that term has been changed to "donations") that goes on in the WT "temples" every day?
This is always brought to mind when I think about how stupid, heartless, UNSCRIPTURAL, unloving, and UNCHRISTIAN it is to disfellowship and shun ANYONE. You know... as I recall... Christ was not big on throwing stones. He saved the life of a prostitute. He hung out with a bad crowd and healed persons equally... I don't recall any accounts of him keeping index cards on anyone.
My take is that Jesus wasn't big on shunning. And like I said, the only real hissy fit was in a temple.
Any thoughts?

Honestly? It is still too painful to post in full.
For over 15 years I excused the organization and the horribly wrong and sometimes death-dealing advice or decrees of the elders. I have lost many, many dear loved ones in death because of this organization. Do you think they only kill people with the blood issue? Think again. I have had loved ones die because they were told to go back to abusive husbands (the elders read scriptures telling her how to be a better wife, well, now she is dead.) I have had a loved one die because he seriously needed psychiatric care which was a big no-no and he took his own life. Then there was the one who, after pioneering for decades, found herself in such great physical pain she found herself drinking too much in addition to the prescribed meds... she was disfellowshipped and she died with no friends or family... of course she had no friends, she wasn't allowed to have friends all of those years of being such a faithful slave. Her beloved only son refused to speak to her. Yes. This is the love of the WTBTS.
I hate the cliche of WWJD ("what would Jesus do?") but I guarantee you that Jesus would not have done a damn thing to destroy families and lives such as this deadly organization does every day.
Cheers to all... and thanks be that we have found the TRUTH at LAST. -

My favorite modus operandi is to finish the scripture they are slowly and emphatically reading to me in perfect, verbatim NWT speak... which does give them pause... just long enough for me to smile and tell them I'm not interested.
After finding these boards, I'm seriously thinking I ought to have some handouts of my OWN ready to hand back! "I'll read every word of yours if you promise to read every word of mine!!!" -

by lostlantern ini just received this from a family member, i was wondering if anyone has any videos that depict bapstists, catholics or any other religion helping out with volunteers?
i would love to respond with my own video that shows jw's are not alone in caring for others when disaster strikes.
what other group of people can do this?

After you left JWs how did you work out what you believe now
by awol ini left jws 10 yrs ago and have just considered myself drifted.
never df'd.
could never go back as i personally found it too hard to live up to.

First of all, WELCOME, AWOL!!! Funny I just described myself as being AWOL from the dubs in an earlier post today.
Secondly, maybe your tears are tears of relief and joy. On the other hand, I really, REALLY know exactly how it feels to find out that the rule book you were clinging to for all those years is a total lie.
Relax. It will come in time. Yes, you may have left a decade ago, but you just now realized that you were absolutely RIGHT to do so! You ROCK!!!! Pat yourself on the back... give yourself some much deserved and greatly overdue CREDIT. You are a strong and reasoning one.
As for the belief system, it was unbelievably hard for me, personally, not to know what I believed anymore. I used to think, "Well, I don't think I'm going to heaven or hell, I don't think I'm just outta here until some resurrection, I don't believe in reincarnation because we'd be farther along if we learned and remembered as we went along, and I'm DAMNED sure we're more than fertilizer... so... what's left?"
Turns out there was something left for me... but it's my take on things that makes me feel wonderful. You will find yours.
Personally, I believe in the Matrix. Red pill or blue? (hahahaha as an analogy I'm only partially kidding.) -

"Oldest Man - Living
Emiliano Mercado Del Toro (Puerto Rico), born in Cabo Rojo on August 21, 1891, became the oldest fully authenticated man residing in the world on 17 January 2005 at the age of 113 years 149 days.
"Currently living in Isabela, Puerto Rico, he is also the oldest living veteran, having been called up in 1918 by the US Army. A non-combat veteran, he was two months into training when World War I ended on 11 November 1918." ~end quote.
So... he was 23 years old in 1914.
I dunno. I was kinda hoping we'd be closer to settling this whole wrong date thing... YET AGAIN...
Anyone have any idea how to determine how many folks who were alive in 1914 are still alive today? Where would you go for that kind of thing? Census?
