Awesome, sounds like a fine plan, Kings! Yes... as you suggest... quietly... respectfully... and patiently.
I hope she will be excited to learn it as well. Good luck and godspeed! :)

Dear Rabbit... sorry to hear about your son or daughter... you know I think I'm sorrier that he/she has been reinstated than about the smoking again. You're right, it's much more dangerous. I hope they soon see TRUE light instead of NEW light.
Bonnie_Clyde, thanks for sharing. It's horrid that you spoke to your friend just three days before and everything seems fine. Somehow there is always a feeling that we could have/should have known and/or done more. It eats at the survivors for years to come. Thank you for telling your story. -

CAUTIOUSNESS IS THE KEY!!!
First of all, above all else, do not be condescending. Never imply that they are stupid for being where they are now. That will put up defenses and your good points will all go down the drain.
Socratic method... ask questions, such as JWfacts has suggested. Let them come to the correct conclusions in their own minds, by hearing their own mouths say it.
Cognitive dissonance... (psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously) in asking your questions, allow them to answer definitively things that contradict each other... then lovingly ask another question that points out the contradiction.
One thing that seems to work marvelously is to say, "I know that this is nearly impossible for you to do, but I must ask you to try, even just for a fraction of a second, to ponder the question, "What if they're wrong? (pause) What if all of the people who refuse blood every day are doing it for no reason? What if all the people who are disfellowshipped still have Jehovah's love and favor and protection, how would we know?" Or something to that effect.
Also, ask them if they are willing to die instead of taking blood. (We know what the answer will be.) Then, say, "Did you know that the Society has changed its stance on blood several times in the past few years? First no blood and no organs, then organs were okay, and now they allow certain portions of blood to be used (blood fractions.) Did you know that originally they did not allow vaccinations? Did you know that there is a website now that includes presently presiding elders who are fighting for a reform on the blood issue? (and here it is... http://www.ajwrb.org/about.shtml ) When they change their stance on it again, how many faithful witnesses will have died for nothing?"
Of course the UN thing is AMAZING. The letter is on the UN site, if they are old enough to remember the scarlet colored wild beast illustrations!
Best of luck and strength to you, Dear. Remember... PLANT SEEDS for thought... and then tread softly on the tilled soil and water delicately as needed. -

Should I DA myself or not?
by Mrs Smith inthis is my first post, some of you have read my hubby's story - agent smith - anyway i was just wondering if i should write a letter to disassociate myself or just leave things as they are.
i have not been to meetings for about 8yrs but have only just come to realize what a load of rubbish the jw's teach.
now that i have read "crisis of conscience" i have no doubt that jw's are corrupt.

WELCOME! We're glad to have you here!
I am in a blessed position of having my loved ones who are still JW's express their love for me.
My Dad once strongly suggested I write a letter to the society if I was not going to any more meetings. I told him I wasn't going to do that. I think that secretly, he was quite relieved. Much easier for him, wouldn't you say?
What I did not tell him is that I felt I would still be giving them power. If they did NOT have power, and I was NOT playing by their rules anymore, the question would be... what letter? What do I have to say to these strangers who have no power over me? Or, as Glenda the Good succinctly put it, "You have no power here! Be gone!"
Cheers! -

Hugs and great strength to you, Dear CrazyBlonde...
And Wanderer... you already know part of my story. He was the only Witness I ever dated, we were engaged to be married at one point. He never got the psychiatric and pharmaceutical help he desparately needed. He took his own life a couple of years after being DF'd for the second time (to get reinstated the first time, he walked to the KH a couple of miles and didn't miss a meeting. Once my family's car passed him walking to the KH in a downpour of rain. Car after car of Witnesses passed him on the sopping dirt road. I don't think I ever forgave my Mom for not stopping our car.) -

This is sort-of a re-post, in my reply to TheWanderer's thread, heading: "When you started to arrive on your decision about leaving." It just occurred to me that this might be a good place to have others sharing experiences where the WTBTS dictates were not only unloving, but actually deadly.
For over 15 years I excused the organization and the horribly wrong and sometimes death-dealing advice or decrees of the elders. I have lost many dear loved ones in death because of this organization. Do you think they only kill people with the blood issue? Think again.
* I have had a beloved one die because she was told to go back to an abusive husband (the elders read scriptures telling her how to be a better wife, well, now she is dead.)
* I have had a loved one die because he seriously needed psychiatric care and medication which was a big no-no and he took his own life.
* Then there was the one who, after pioneering for decades, found herself in such great physical pain due to several bone surgeries, she slipped into drinking too much in addition to the prescribed meds... she was disfellowshipped and she died with no friends or family... of course she had no friends, she wasn't allowed to have friends all of those years of being such a faithful slave. Her beloved only son refused to speak to her. Yes. This is the love of the WTBTS.
I hate the cliche of WWJD ("what would Jesus do?") but I guarantee you that Jesus would NOT have done anything to destroy families and lives such as this deadly organization does every day.
So... how many of you feel that the WTBTS was at least in part contributory to the death of a loved one? What were the circumstances?
