The question my husband always asks and I never know how to answer him is... "So what is the official count? Is anybody keeping record of how many are left?"
I know that stats of partakers and a WHOLE LOTTA' NON PARTAKERS was reported back to headquarters for every memorial... but... is there any GUESS as to how many 144,000 are "already ruling", as it were? As some of the "annointed ones" have no doubt fallen by the wayside as have Governing Body members... who can keep track? Anyone?

What Do You Think About The "Faithful&Discreet Slave Class"?
by minimus inthere are so many new posters here now, i think this topic should be revisited.
i believe the most ridiculous belief that witnesses have is a "slave class" made up of 144,000 give spiritual "food at the proper time".

Mere Children who are Disfellowshipped
by BabaYaga inthis was inspired by another thread, where freetosee told of a young witness baptised at the tender age of 9, and disfellowshipped at age 12!!!
the mind goes wild at what a 12-year-old should ever be disfellowshipped for.
how would a kid be so unrepentant they would deserve losing their family and friends?

Blondie... of course, she didn't scream. This makes my head want to explode. This is so wrong.
FlyingFree... you're an incredible and perceptive Mom to know beforehand what baptism could REALLY mean for your kids! BRAVO!!!
Full o' Doubt... wow... that's one of the better stories. Thank the gods there are actually some loving parents left...
New Light... so sorry to hear your story!! It boggles the mind. I am so, so happy you survived to tell the tale. You are incredible. -

Good LORD, Candidly... I don't guess it could get much worse than that. I am literally nauseous at the thought.
So... a CHILD is DATE-RAPED by an adult she trusts, and instead of receiving counseling and strength and love, she is SHUNNED.
If ANYONE reading this is a practicing Jehovah's Witness, I challenge you LOOK WITHIN YOURSELF and see if you can tell me you think that a loving creator would be pleased by this? -

Can a regular JW sue an Elder?
by beavis inhas anyone heard of this "new light"?
supposedly it is acceptable to "take your brother to court" which would incur the possiblity of loss of privilieges of position.
however, when one chooses to sue an elder, this would be a disfellowshipping offense because the elders are considered to be the society's representatives and an act of a lawsuit against an elder would be considered an act against the society because of the elders being considered their representatives.. .

Legally, as just another citizen? Absolutely.
Within the org? Are you kidding? Uhm... even if one were NOT disfellowshipped, what do you think life in the congregation would be like? -

Are you really free from the Watchtower?
by yaddayadda inthe thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think.
i honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-jw sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests.
the watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others.

I certainly see your point, YaddaYadda, but you have lots more posts than me. *grin*
I have been out of the Org for over 20 years now. It has been a long, hard, but-oh-so-worth-it process. Even after 2 decades, I was still so touchy about growing up as a JW that I could not answer questions my husband (never involved with the JWs) would ask. I would get really irrate, not meaning to, but I could not answer his simplest curious questions. "I spent too many years knocking on doors explaining this stuff," I'd say. The fact is that just thinking in those terms, to justify in why they do things, just made me crazy.
I feel that finding this site has enlightened me, taught me INCREDIBLE, mightily important things about the way I was raised and about this masquerade which still has my loved ones in its clutches. I feel as if I am just now healing, after all this time. It is, as so many speak of, post-traumatic-stress therapy.
I am content to admit that, for now, and am able to give myself the time I need, after all these years in struggle and denial, to figure all of this out and come to peace with it all.
In the meantime, I hope that some of the experiences I have to share might help someone who is doubting, who is lurking, who is questioning, or who is trying to come to terms with this and find peace... just like me... and maybe it won't take them 20 years.
Peace! And hugs and pats on the backs for us all.

Hello, and WELCOME to the forum, Amanda001!!!
Yes, your comment is published as you can see, and much appreciated, in fact... I don't know if you realize it yet, but this site is mostly populated with EX-Jehovah's Witnesses, who left for many reasons, including those you have enumerated.
I hope you stick around, Amanda001... you will have lots more to say to the Witnesses the next time they knock at your door!
Cheers!

What if he had JW kids in his classroom, what would the ramifications be of that?
Is this not child abuse? Is this even LEGAL?
HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THESE PEOPLE JUSTIFY THIS KIND OF INSANITY???
Do you know of anyone who was disfellowshipped as a minor? What is the situation... particularly after the Judicial ruling?

A funny prayer...out of the mouths of babes....
by megsmomma inthis story is cute in a way....but also disturbing since it does show how jw's brainwash their young.. when my daughter was 5 she was visiting me and at night i would listen to her pray (at that time i was still not free from the guilt, ect) well, she started out "dear jehovah....ooohhhhhhh jehovah......(sounded just like her dad) thank you so much for this food we're about to recieve..." no, we were not about to eat!
i had to see she was imitating what she had heard many times....and i laugh, but it makes me sad too.
at least i know that their truth really isn't in her heart....just her brainwashed mind, and for some reason....i think that is much better..

Free2See that is HORRIFYING... you know I have wondered about that... I know that some were baptised SO early they were just little kids, and wondered if any were also ever disfellowshipped as minors?
What a bunch of HORRIFIC HATEFUL HOGWASH. Dang that makes me freakin' furious. -

Curiosity dictates a question like this...
by Juniper inhave any of you out there ever taken the "opposite route" and studied paganism or wicca?.
i know of some that practice that.
but i've been thinking about what a strange irony that would be, right?
-

It might be an irony, but it is not at all unusual. There are many.
