I mentioned the donation arrangement when it first started, but people often commented that I'd already told them that the literature was free, yet now I was asking for money, so I stopped mentioning anything, and took money only if they offerred it.

Donate for worldwide work- did you ask ?
by sspo in.
it was much easier for me when we used to charge for literature than ask the householder if they wanted to contribute to the worldwide work.i was too embarassed.
that's why i just gave the literature away and not put them on the spot.. the witnesses that did ask the householder to contribute would usually never get a donation.. what was your experience?

WTS' use of "Presumptuousness." Calling the kettle black...
by Confession inin putting some final touches on the letter to my mother (yes the one i've been preparing for about six months,) i came across this article from a 1984 watchtower.
beware of presumptuousness!.
who does not want to avoid making mistakes?

I can think of a few elders who ought to take a good look at that article. Some of them seem to make the rules up as they go along, without ant scriptural backing whatsoever.

Thankyou all so much for your kind replies. I have never experienced such a feeling of warmth and kindness from people I have hardly met in all my years as a JW.
Thankyou so much

Maybe Interesting Blood News
by truth.ceeker ini had a meeting with my heart surgeon yesterday, and after informing him of our faith, my wife still holding onto to parts of the organization, the dr. said that, "there is a new form that just came out last year from your mother church in new york.
" what this document does is (1) make it clear that the person is not allowing blood to be used, (2) makes it clear that the dr. will have a court order ready in case blood is deemed medically necessary to sustain life and (3) absolves the person's conscience of any guilt if it came down to it.
i'm not sure if this document has been discussed before, but i thought that it was a bit intriguing.

I haven't heard of such a document in the UK, I'd certainly be interested to see it.
All the best with your heart surgery truth.ceeker.

Having just left the JWs, and with many family members still in, some quite elderly, I really don't know. I would find it difficult to cope with the inevitable shunning, so probably not.

Hello juni,
Thankyou so much for your kind words, and for taking such an interest in me during the last few months. I know Linda counts you as a friend, one of the many she has made on this forum, and I hope to do the same soon.
I have found writing my story very helpful to me personally, though of course some memories are happier than others, and if it has helped anyone else, then all the effort has been more than worthwhile. I don't know how many, if any, of my JW "friends" and family will speak to me now, I have reasonable hopes regarding my sister, but we will see. What I do know is that I have friends on this forum, apart from Linda and Trevor, and I am so happy to be here.
all my love

Last Night A Young Elder Got Announced As Being---- Deleted!
by minimus inmy mom told me that the new elder that just got appointed 6 months ago was now deleted.
this young man is in his early 30's, unmarried, and now history.
what could've happened??

I've known a few elders who have been removed, and to some it was a curse that they never lived down , as all the senior JWs in their family were elders, and they hadn't matched up, apart from having to deal with their wives reaction, as many JW wives are more ambitious than their husbands regarding congregation appointments.
At least this young man is single, so he doesn't have a wrathful wife to face, and he may be relieved at shedding his responsibilty.

Hello Ian, and thankyou for this:
You REALLY are amongst true friends now. We don't judge and we accept everyone with all their "failings".
I realised that the first time Linda showed me this forum, and it is so refreshing to amongst people who aren't judgemental, having spent so long amongst people who generally are. I am really looking forward to meeting you and your family next month, along with whoever else comes alomg. I need to get some curry - eating practice in first though, it's not food I am used to!
