  I don't remember special campaign tract placements being reported in times past.

  True. This is probably to get us used to "counting" tracts, so they can have publishers place them more often.

  "We gotta keep rank-and-file busy and keep costs down. Most people in the U.S. don't read the literature, so let's give them

  something small to throw away. Most witnesses don't want to talk doctrine to householders, so let's tell them just to leave the

  tract and move on. They will 'feel' like they served Jehovah and followed organizational instructions. WIN WIN."

  I waas at the meeting. It seems to me- special campaigns are EASY TO DO. It's a way to leave something for everyone, at little cost, but mainly to get inactive or barely active witnesses to get out there. After getting them out, they can be "encouraged" to do it more.

  I also believe that special campaigns will keep costs down for the United States literature distribution. There was also the "Invite everyone to the District Convention" campaign- a one-page flyer. Expect more next year.

  Coming off pioneering - made up excuses!!

  the excuses made for coming off pioneering were, at times, cringeworthy.. one minute the brother is claiming ill health and the next month he is in a full time job!.

  its all down to position and status - "oh yes, my son came off because he is getting married!".

  did anyone ever watch the comedy sitcom - 'keeping up appearances'?

  My wife loves that British sitcom, 'keeping up appearances'

  The entire series is available on DVD (netflix). I think I will use references to it in pointing out problems with JWs.

  Are All the Governing Body Really Old Farts?

  i don't know they all must be pretty old and really set in there ways, especially with all the yes men they surround themselves with you know those gbwanabees at bethel,.

  i would say that all those gbwanabees at bethel must be pretty wierd too.. are(all) right,, what i wanna know is,, are there any younger men on the body so they don't all go senile at once?

  They really should pic some of these eager chompping at the bite, 30 something year olds. That would be a very good organizational move, instead of getting those near retirement age.

  Problem is, that would go against everything they have taught. The door to heaven closed in 1935. Occasionally, a slave is

  unfaithful and needs to be replaced, so the door cracks open for a moment- a person with YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE is

  chosen to replace that unfaithful one in heaven. I'm sure the GB could make the average JW believe it is necessary to put a

  30-ish brother there, but the Governing Body, itself, would be disturbed by this break in doctrine. From Ray Franz' book, I

  think many of these men truly believe the stuff they teach.

  I'm being hunted by an elder - would this work?

  this week elder z shows up at my house twice, unexpectedly.

  the first time i didn't see him, but my daughter did and didn't answer the door.

  the next time i decided not to answer the door since i didn't feel like talking to him.

  Placing Publications - The Reality

  i'm not, never have been, a jw, etc.. a couple of months ago, on a mb entirely unconnected with religion a poster told of her concerns that her pre-teen step-daughter had started to study (with her mother) with jws.. the poster knew nothing of jws - her concern was because her step-daughter had asked her not to tell her husband (the girl's father) of this and keep it secret.

  (apparently the mother had previously had connections with jws and the father was not happy with this).. i posted on that mb, mentioned some concerns, and later got into e-mail contact with the step-mother.

  i put together a brief note about some history of the jws, some concerns i had (mainly gathered from reading jwd) and sent it to her, just to make her aware of what she may be dealing with.

  You probably saved at least one person from eventual disfellowshipping. Good job.

  The literature on the table- I think most people will forget about that if they are happy with that business. Most will read

  some out of curiosity. I know many people carry their own stuff to do while waiting (laptops, too).

  If I ever frequent a business and that happens, I would read it. I would hope they think I was interested, and any JW

  behind the counter would try to win my business over permanantly (so he can offer a bible study) by doing a good job.

  If we go, I was wondering if I should just approach Elder Z and ask him what he wanted from me. Would that be a mistake?

  Yes, that would be a mistake. You don't need to hide from now on, but you are not aware that he rang your bell. Let him approach you,

  make your excuses, tell him what you want, but don't bring up the event. He will start to pry. Either that, or go all the way with the

  line, "Sorry, I am really depressed. I just couldn't talk." That sets you up for further reduction of activity and you can always fall

  back on your depression everytime you want to avoid the brothers.

  Is the Higher/ Further Education still enemy number one?

  i went to university without any problems in the cong.

  two others in my hall went and no one made a public complaint.

  i was interviewed age 15 on the platform by my dad (elder) about whether i would pioneer when i left school or not.

  It's possible that our CO came up with this strong feeling on his own, I don't think so. Anyway, his last visit about 6 month ago, he tells the body of elders that it is a big concern in an affluent country like the U.S. "There are so many spiritual success stories of brother who gave up going to college." Then many elders gave their wonderful stories. I never went to college, but became a JW after I never went. I kept my silence because I think it's virtually indispensible for young people now.

  It has returned as a major enemy, but #1 is the internet. (Pornography, free flow of information, lurkers)

  Did anyone else wonder why?

  i always thought that if you want to do 6 or 60 hours a month in field service, why make a big fanfare about it and become a pioneer or whatever?

  i always thought if you want to go out loads, then go out loads; why do you need a group of "elders" to approve of it and make an announcement?

  i've read about a few on this board who got turned down for pioneering.

  Many pioneer for the title and status. I have talked to many publishers who weren't able to prove they could keep up with the hours

  of a pioneer, so I asked them to put in the hours for a few months, then it would be retroactive. Only one person ever did it. The

  rest aux. pioneered until they got approval to regular pioneer.

  Also, every instance I know of when a person got in trouble (was reproved by a Judicial Committee), and lost their title, they never kept

  up their hours until they re-gained the title.

  It says "Look how faithful I am." Of course, there are many sincere ones who don't have this problem.
