Let's just get something straight about 1975.

nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.

in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?

there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

So how would you explain to someone still in the wts that the society specifically mentioned the specific dates the end was supposed to happen?

Re-read many of the posts in this thread. They explain how overseers were saying it. They explain how the Kingdom Ministry said it was a fine thing to sell your home and pioneer until the end. They explain how we were ~~urged~~ forced to reach the conclusion that the end must be in 1975. You want something to present JW's so that there is no argument with your documentation. That ain't gunna happen.

Join the Flat-Earth Society, they have indisputable evidence that the earth is flat, or join the WTS, they have indisputable evidence that their organization always is correct. In other words, you will always get an argument, no matter what you can show them.

Is the WTS changing positions on the croos vs. stake?

my husband was listening to a radio station the other day and said there was news that the wts has decided that jesus dying on a cross rather than a stake may not be as far-fetched as they once thought.. have any of you heard this?

i have been cruising the threads to see if there was already one on this subject.

if there is, point me to it!

I've heard/read nothing. I still attend meetings. This is something that would come
out in a WT study article for the rank and file, but would probably be sent to elders
in a letter, first. It would not surprise me if it happened, one day, but I doubt it ever
will. Maybe the person on the radio got it wrong.

The big announcement will be:

In order to survive as a religion, we are going to make sweeping changes.
First of all, Headquarters is moving out of the U.S, we are selling all the
Brooklyn properties. Our new HQ is going to be in a place that refuses
to extridite criminals or tax overseas income.
Next, we are going to encourage you young ones to get married and
have lots of JW babies. In order to facilitate this one, we will have
arranged marriages. Since there are so many more sisters than brothers,
we will be establishing polygamy among the elders and ministerial servant.
Brothers, get those sisters pregnant.
Also, we encourage young ones to get a college degree in order to boost
their contributions.

i've read alot of jw material from this time period and i find very little in the way of clarification.

My letter of resignation as an elder includes the statements that I do not "know" the Governing Body, I do not know how the FDS uses them or contacts them, or for that matter, if the FDS is not even consulted by the Governing Body.

I have let them know that I can find very little in (WT) print to help me learn the answers.

The organization is virtually silent when explaining the FDS giving authority to the GB, because it is a fairy tale.

You discovered our secret. We are all ashamed that our thinking was in line with "illogical" doctrine. Sorry I can't be of more help on your question, but virtually no JW will ever be able to satisfy your demand for sense or logic.

I won't get into side issues. I would not do it, because, no matter what you think now, your husband may want to be involved in the child's life and will have no say-so in it. They could move, leave no address, they could raise the child in a way he dissapproves of, they could file for child-support, on and on are the possibilities.

Good point to greendawn about Rutherford. A serious JW could explain that "The FDS were not fully aware of their importance until Rutherford helped them see so.
Originally, the Bible Students were aware of their heavenly hope, but JFR
helped them to see that they were all receiving the holy spirit they once thought that
only CTRussel was getting. Since they had to preach all around the world, they
could not all meet in one place and they could not all make decisions about
things, so they needed representatives. The publishing company and its president
with a board of directors was already there, so they were the logical choice.
Anyway, I don't have to fully understand it, because Jehovah did it, it's right."

The JWs still blind to the implications of the 1995 generation change

in 1995 the wts as time finally caught up with them, they had to yield to the inevitable and admit that its hitherto interpretation of the so called 1914 last generation was erroneous.

to all intents and purposes the end was indefinitely posrponed it could be centuries away according to the new explanation.

yet the r&f do not seem to realise these implications and are apparently suffering from collective blindness they still believe the end is as near as it was before 1995, just round the corner.

It was really not a big deal when we studied it in the W.T.

I have to agree. It is my major issue, but it took me a long time to do anything about it. Many people did not even notice its importance at the time, nor really cared about the implications, later.
