There was one woman in our congregation who had a baby on a Friday and came to the Sunday meeting, baby and all. Jeez, she didn't even get to miss one stinking meeting! Another young MS we knew got severe electrical burns on his hands and torso (he was an electrician working on a commercial breaker box). He was in the hospital several days and had to have skin grafts on his hands. He was darn-near killed! But about one week after being released from the hospital, still in bad shape, he went to the Thursday night meeting because he had a part assigned. When I had my son by C-section, it was really hard to get back to feeling well. I remember an elder calling me about 2 weeks after I had my son asking for my field service report for that month. That would be a big ZERO!! When I finally drug my butt in to a meeting about 3 weeks after the C-section, still sore and feeling wiped out, people said things like "Its good to finally see you" (aka: 'You took too much time off after having the baby...')In our congregation, there were unwritten rules about how much time one should be expected to be absent from meetings after being ill, losing a loved one in death, etc.

Friendships
by return visitor inwhen firmly entrenched in the borg i complained to my wife that friendships in the "truth" didn't seem as real as i noticed worldly people had.
for instance, the worldly person i worked with was constantly doing things with friends, whether it was going to ball games or helping a friend put on a new roof.
in our circle of friends we could never count on help, our friends were too busy trying to earn a living and doing the borgs bidding.

This is exactly the way I have felt about JW "friends". When I was an active JW, I often thought about the real friends I gave up because they were "worldly". They were replaced by people with fake smiles plastered on their faces who had "get-togethers" which were LAME!! (See my previous thread called 'Lame (or funny) JW get together stories.' I never felt like I could really talk to Witnesses; conversations were always centered around how smart and happy we are to be JWs and how wicked this world is; poor, stupid world. We could never just hang out and chat about stuff, because you never know who you might stumble with a semi-worldly idea you have. Just like you said, if it weren't for the pesky elders, fading would have been a piece of cake. We had to DA ourselves so they would leave us alone. Now, we are left to rebuild a network of friends, since we have NONE from "the world" that we had before becoming JWs.

Thank God no one listened

I have often thought this about my family. No one in my or my husband's families are JWs. As an active JW, I often tried to "witness" to my family, but deep down, I always had this nagging thought: What if they do listen and become JWs and they (or I) do something to get DFd? I came to a subconscious decision that I was more comfortable with them remaining "worldly", because I didn't want to ever be faced with the prospect of having to shun them (or for them to shun me.

Are you really free from the Watchtower?
by yaddayadda inthe thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think.
i honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-jw sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests.
the watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others.

Uh, hasn't this general question been hashed and rehashed at least twice in the past month or so? It has been discussed ad nauseum in threads called "Move on?" and 'When will exJWs/apostates get on with their lives" (something like that).

The Battery is almost Dead.
by KW13 infor over 100 years the same message of doom and gloom for the world has been preached with a twist.
if your a jehovah's witness you can be saved.. .
i think people are tired of expecting the end of the system, the older generation (there are more older ones than younger i am guessing) are seeing the end of their lives when they thought they never would and some of them probably think about the false prophecy.. .

I was happy to read on another thread that "Amanda 001" received the tract and immediately looked up JWs online (and was none too pleased with what she found). Just proving once again that the internet is, or will be, the biggest cause of the WT's downfall. I sincerely hope that others who receive the tract will do just as Amanda did. I think the WT is trying to act tough, but deep down they must know they are losing ground big time.

I have a "Singing Kingdom Songs" CD. It's a CD recorded at Bethel of a few select JWs singing some of the more popular KMs . By the way, it always bothered me that most of the songs are sung by men. ALL songs that were sung solo were by men. The only songs by women were done as a duet or trio (I guess a woman singing a solo would have been too much like a woman giving a talk by herself). One of the men in particular sounds like an old fart trying to sound like he's a pro singer - gag! I can't believe I used to listen to this! Anyway, I need to dispose of it, but throwing it in the trash just won't feel that rewarding. My husband suggested we use it for a little target shooting practice. Any other creative ideas?

This would be the woman who they give the "experiences" about at a convention. She is a pioneer, works 3 jobs, has 10 kids, is single, blind, and "hops" 5 miles to the KH uphill both ways and NEVER misses a meeting. We should all be so "faithful". (Just bein' silly)

The Second Emergent Type of "Faders"
by metatron ini was having an interesting conversation with another witness who's nearly faded away.
he made an interesting point that corrected me and.
touched my heart.. i wondered aloud if there was "any limit to how stupid the organization could collectively become".

I was with a sister on a home bible study with a home-bound lady who obviously had a lot of health problems. We were in the middle of the study when the lady's home health nurse came to administer her weekly BLOOD TRANSFUSION. The nurse lays the bag of blood out near where we were studying and starts getting her supplies ready. The lady very politely says "I know you all don't believe in blood transfusions, but I really need this." So that promptly ended our study for that day. The sister I was with was very gracious and made plans to come back the next week. I was not grossed out by the blood (I'm a nurse), but I remembered looking at the bag of blood thinking 'that's pure liquid Satan in there.'
