  We just moved house...

  ...and now live (joy of joys!

  ) next door to local elder, who just happens to be my husbands sisters father-in-law!

  (and was one of the 3 on commitee for our voluntary dissassociation).. this will now make life interesting.. already they refuse to come out the front yard, and if we 'happen' to go out front when they are there, they run inside!

  We did xmas last year in other house but my hubby was cautious and woudn't let me decorate in case it caused upset with family.

  I now say...bugger it!!!

  I'm putting lights up, and might even go so far as a santa display out front lawn. The kids are going to love it. The great thing is, everyone else is changing their lives to avoid us, but not succeeding! It's great that we are so in their face without changing our lives one bit. I keep wanting to 'bump' into them when I'm out doing the garden, but so far they won't give me the chance to 'engage' in conversation!

  With 5 kids birthdays, xmas, easter, halloween, they are going to hate it.

  And while they are soooo quiet, (and go to bed early, early, early), my lot don't have quiet in their vocabulary!

  As for an apostafest...Nahhh. We annoy them enough just by breathing!!!

  But my husband has made passing comments about a blackboard out the front with a relevant scripture daily. Kind of like a daily text. What do you think???

  Already they refuse to come out the front yard, and if we 'happen' to go out front when they are there, they run inside! Just today I was pulling into driveway and their son (30+y/o) had the garden hose ready to water the garden. Soon as he saw me, the garden hose went back on the reel and he was inside before I got out of the car!!!

  LOL...it's amazing how we have affected their life already, and it's only been 1 week! (and their garden is starting to need a water real bad!)

  I received a package from my mother today

  my dub mother sent me a package today, inside was a nwt bible, a picture of me around age 5 at an assembly - i looked miserable and my dad was holding a battery operated fan in front of me, and a letter, here is the letter.

  i ask that you remember that i was 18 when i left and i'm now 42, that there is a total of 8 children in my family and there are only 2 that are still jw's, oh and that my mother is a complete nutcase!

  I find it utterly amazing how parents can turn their back on us when we leave the religion, then accuse US of having no love for them???

  As if we were the ones who treated them as if they were dead???

  My mother-in-law deemed it fit to slip a note in our letterbox when we left that read "we can re-join the family when we return to Jehovah."

  It's perplexing how they can equate family bond/love with meeting attendance etc.

  (Sorry if someone has already mentioned similar to the above. My computer is sooo slow at moment and to get through the 5+ pages of replies would have been too painful! )

  Nothing new from Hollywood - so sick of Sequels

  is anyone else out there sick and tired of all the rehashed movies and versions 1,2,3,4 etc coming out of hollywood lately.

  i can't recall ever seeing such a lack of anything new and interesting from movie makers.

  I haven't been to the movies in 3 years. It's too expensive now for what you get. When I was a teenager you'd get 2 movies for the admission fee, and cartoons before they started. Now you pay a lot more to get in for only one movie, and you get commercials where the cartoons used to be. Popcorn and coke cost more than some restaurants charge for a real lunch, and half the time the butter they put on the popcorn is rancid.

  By waiting a little while I can buy the DVD for less money, and if it sucks I can sell it.

  I thought I was the only one who thought like this!

  The last movie we took the kids to see was 'Cars'. They lasted all of 10 minutes before they got bored and started swapping seats, going to the toilet constantly...

  Soooo enjoyable....not!

  30 min in and all I can think of is...why do I have these great ideas????!

  im off to enjoy a lovely dinner with my husband and then we are off the see the phantom.. i cant wait, the last time i saw this show was in 1991 and ive been waiting ever since for it to come back to australia.. have a good night everyone.

  When you were a dub, did you shun DF/DA'd people?

  actually, in my 14 years as a dub, it only came up with one person in our cong.

  who got pregnant out of wedlock (and used drugs during pregnancy).

  she was df'd but still came to most meetings.

  Never.

  Apart from anything else, there's no excuse for rudeness, and I'm not the type that cared what others thought of me anyway. As long as what they did never affected me in any way, that's their business, and generally doesn't change what type of person they are anyways.

  ...and yes...I did get 'spoken' to many times for not doing the 'shunning' thing, but in my opinion, shunning does more harm than can ever do good.

  How many happy JW marriages do you know of?

  just reading frequent flyer miles on the subject of feeling guilty for having a happy marriage with a non-jw.. in our congregation which i haven't attended for about a year, i can only think of two or three who seem to be happy.

  of course, i don't know what happens behind closed doors, but i know of several who admit they are unhappy.

  i wrote out a long list of couples who have divorced over the last 20 years--including three elders (one is on his second divorce).

  An alternative to this is neither one buys into the whole "headship horse$h*t". That's our situation. My wife has spirit and I love that about her. We are definitely a partnership. I've never pulled out the "headship" trump card in our marriage. I've stood up for things I've felt strongly about, but always on the merits, never on my "God-ordained position".

  Can't agree more. I have different views to my husband on some things, and vice versa. It leads to healthy debates! We work well that way. I couldn't imagine a relationship where I would have to 'obey without question' and be 'submissive' to him. I've never been that way inclined, it would literally drive me insane!!! I think this is the only way to have a healthy relationship. Anything else could lead to harbouring resentment of some sort. Also, the 'headship/head of house 'power' can be abused. I have seen this first hand. I just want to 'smack' them for treating their wives in that way, and give the wives a kick up the a** for accepting such behaviour.

  locally, there is a lady who does a newspaper column in which funny things are recounted.. this forum represents hundreds and even thousands of people - many of whom have childen, or at least are around children.

  One from my sister when she was 4...in the local shopping centre at xmas and Santa was handing out lollies to all the children. Of course, my parents being JW's said that she couldn't have any and that Santa was a bad person. She stopped, hands on hips and said in the loudest voice..."well...what's he ever done to you?"

  And my own kids...

  My eight year old recently had a number 2 haircut like his Dad's. He proudly went into show his dad, announcing that he had the same hair as him...except for the 'bits' missing on the side!!!

  My six year old daughter, when asked if she would look after her mum and dad when they are older, said "yes...and I'll buy you a wheelchair as well!!!"

  They do make you feel special!

  (oh...and I laughed so hard at bebu's story, I had tears rolling down my face!)
