  im a long time lurker first time poster.

  i am an open minded jw who believes in freeness of speech.

  i love my faith and my worldwide brother and sisterhood (even though i see much room for improvement in how things are run).. i thought i would stir things up a bit with the following question:.

  I'd just like to say in answer to your question, yes and no. Yes in that they do express an element of love and respect to one another as a whole, but then that could be said of

  other religious groups and organizations. And no, for the main reason why many have left the WTS. blatant corruption, hypocrisy on doctrines, false prophesising and making profits from

  those false prophecies and so on. In short you could say that the people really wanted to be true followers and disciples of Christ but were led in to being instead a false prophesier and a

  disciple or slave of the WTS................. doesn't love mean being truthful and honest......

  Is it brainwashing?

  i've had a bit of a semantic tousle with a member of this board on whether the coercive techniques used by the wtbts to obtain and retain members is "brainwashing".

  i say "brainwashing" is not a good description of what goes on, i prefer "mind control", or coercive and deceptive techniques.

  he argued to call it something less than "brainwashing" is to water down the destructive effects of the wts on it's members and former members.

  The whole organizational structure of the WTS is based on fear, fear for power, fear for control and fear for profit.

  If an organization instructs it's followers how to think what to think and how to act on those instructions, without a chance to put

  forth any debate or analysis of the information, without paying a personal penalty, well yes. For example think about the book studies

  and watchtower studies, when the WTS. supplies the questions on the information they are putting forth, one could very well consider

  this a form of brainwashing or mind manipulation. This is done in allot of religions because without thought control you can not manintain the 

  power that you have obtained. A psycosis of fear can be placed in the minds of the people, by the information and therefore maintain 

  support for organization.........food for thought ! also keeps the presses running and the money flowing in.

  goshen a hamlet of wallkill man who was convicted in a non-jury trial last fall for trying to lure boys to engage in sexual activity was sentenced in orange county court monday to two to six years in state prison.. jesus cano, 50, who was a clergyman with the jehovahs witnesses, was sentenced for the felonies of attempted use of a child in a sexual performance and attempted promotion of a sexual performance by a child.. cano was charged with driving around the city of middletown last summer, handing out packets to boys with nude photos of himself, his phone number and other information.. when middletown police arrested him, they found a video camera in his car which a tape that was shot inside a mens room at ohare airport in chicago.. .

  Well the magazine did say " AWAKE " so I woke up !

  I'm thinking of publishing a magazine titled " WAKE UP " ( Timely information about world events ) and send it out to any jw I know.

  Of course I would have to ask for a small contribution to cover my costs, but then I could get the purchasers to buy a couple more and they might be able to sell them to a couple of

  their friends and those friends could sell them to someone they know, and then I could start my own publishing empire and become a wealthy and powerful man, they used to laugh at me

  for having a small penis, but I would become a king in my very own kingdom with my very own dedicated slaves........

  .......Oh SORRY........... I lost it there for second...........

  Why did we failed to see the rather obvious signs?

  when we decided to accept the jws something drew us to them perhaps the belief that they had the truth and they could provide a refuge from the so called armageddon.

  or it could be the need to belong somewhere or to associate with (ostensibly) spiritual people as was the case with me.

  but why (unlike many other interested persons) did we miss the many rather obvious signs that there was something fundmentally wrong with this organisation so as to save ourselves a lot of trouble in the future when deciding to leave it?

  Using the Gold Mine

  the archives of posts on jwd represents a gold mine of information, personal experiences and intelligent discussions.

  i think it would be of real benefit, especially to those who cautiously peek in on the site (aka, lurkers), to be able to select from an index of subject matter.

  there would be a subject reference address for the beginning of those threads that discussed the subject and include some special posts that were of particular quality in the realm of the jwd site.

  my family had an experiance where a family member was to have a serious medical procedure in a different city from where they lived.

  we thought they would get good suport from the hlc in that town.

  The jw's will never ever recant this policy on blood, too many people have died to date, to make any changes at this state of the game. They know any changes could and would fracture their power base to crumbles. Don't ever expect new light to appear on this subject matter because it never will. Someone's child is going to die, someone's mother, someone's father and all humanity will cry because of it, all for the sick and perverse reason for men wanting power, what a slap in face to humanity !
