the subject of how ones remains are dealt with, i think, is very revealing of ones core beliefs.

i've heard atheists say that under no circumstances would they want to be cremated.

that, to me, is inconsistent with their proclaimed viewpoint.

I think I wil write my own eulogy too, just say my piece and hopefully wake up my family who might still be JW zombies...

Why does the WTS insist everyone sign up for the Ministerial School ?

i never enjoyed giving # 2 talks.

i never enjoyed being at a podium and speaking.

i took drama in high school just to get over the fear of being in front of people and speaking.

I totally know what you are talking about R&R,

I too have had a public speaking fear since I was 11. I about passed out in gr5 giving a speech...my glasses fogged up so bad from being hot that I couldnt even read my paper...

I would give talks with my knees shaking and palms sweaty and voice quavering....but i managed to look confident the more talks i gave...thankfully I was JUST a sister, so we had a bit more leeway than a brother does...

I think the reason they require everyone is it helps indoctrinate everyone with the cult propaganda...it's all about gettting the drones to perfect the borg's sales pitch....quite brilliant dont you think?

I'm thinking Mad Max beyond Thunderdome meets Escape from New York. You can appreciate living in a civilized society; a civilized society based on religion (In God we trust).

There are people without a religion and they get along just fine with the rest of the world.

There are civilizations that are non-christian, they are pagan, and they have a moral code of conduct.

religions do not keep people in order, people are by nature orderly and usually have a herichy system in place no matter what part of the world you look in. .the most bloodiest of centuries and the darkest of ages were the ones lead by ''christian'' religions. If you think the holy crusades were civilized and non-chaotic, then what is your definition of civilized?

No, not under any circumstances, not even if they threatended me with my life...it would be really difficult if they threatened to kill a loved one unless I killed someone...that would be the hardest of circumstances to ever find oneself in I think. either lose your loved one or kill someone else...

perhaps this paradoxical "topic" is one with which we here have dealt a little more, or a little more consciously, than the average population.. we used to have our heads full of beliefs (which we called "truth") in every direction: on theology, on cosmology, on paleontology, on past history, on so-called prophetic future, on heaven above, on earth, on she'ol beneath.

on many things -- current events, traditions, other peoples' beliefs and behaviours -- we had strong opinions which were directly or indirectly (the famous "conscience" matters) part of the same deal.

and of course our life was filled with activities and relationships, a community of "friends," people to "help" or "teach," etc.. then, gradually or suddenly, we came to suspect, often with a measure of terror, that all of this was not what we had thought and might sooner or later turn into... nothing.. this "nothing" is perhaps one of the most scary thoughts to people contemplating leaving the org one way or another.

Curious about what ExJW's Preach and Teach

i'm curious as to what doctrines you teach.

is it "jesus is love.

Say, your neighbor likes having sex with animals....do you intervene? What if your neighbor loved veal and kept baby calves in his basement? The blood-curdling cries at night sending shivers up your spine. What if you found out your neighbor and his "son" were members of NAMBLA? Would you report them?

If this is what is happening in your neighbourhood, then you should seriously consider moving. baby calves in the basement??? are you kidding me?

of course I would report any pedofiles to the police.

none of my neighbours are having sex with their animals, I live in the city, people here walk their dogs.

Where I live people have families and go to school and work like normal regular people. I am part of that demographic too.

Just because I dont follow a religion does not mean that I have no code of conduct and ethics. By your sentence I get the sense that you feel people who are anti-religion, atheist or agnostic are evil people without morals....would that be a fair assesment of your viewpoint?
