i was just surfing and looked at the official jw site.
there was a picture of a nun on the front page and it said: is there a sound basis for your beliefs?
if you click on it you get this link, to a watchtower article: http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2001/8/1/article_01.htm.
Its truly incredible. Its as if the article were written FOR and not BY the WBTS.
I was born into the truth. My mother and grandmother were witnesses. I pioneered for 12 years and as a result 27 people were baptized. I have tried contacting those people to explain to them my decision to leave the organization, but have only been able to reach some of them. Oh, well.... I'll keep trying.
interesting movie that culminates with babette cooking a sumptuous meal for a group of devout christians who feel guilty about enjoying anything because of the sinful nature of enjoyment and their fear that enjoyment of life now will diminish their eternal reward so they vow to each other not to show any signs that they are enjoying the meal.. i saw it the other night and it always reminds me of the witnesses i knew back in the 60s.
I love that movie and Babbette's self-sacrificing gesture is spending all the money she had in the world to teach these pious christians that life was to be savored and enjoyed now and not wait for the promise of a hereafter.

you can always spot them by the 'less than 1/2 miles per hour' they stroll down the street.
salvation by the hour.
Here we called it the "Pioneer Stro1l" and yes it was intended to get the maximum amount of hours in that we could without really exerting yourself. Since we had already paid for our books and magazines and the WT had gotten their money, we tried to recoup our investment by selling as much literature as we could, but of course our main focus was the hours. We believed that putting in the hours surely bought our salvation. So foolish!
when i was an active jw, my closest friend was the wife of an elder who had been disfellowshipped because of an affair with a pioneer.
i loved her and we got along great together.
i considered her my very best friend.
Gee Metatron: So sorry to hear about your daughter. I know words can never help the grief you are feeling, but be assured that my prayers are with you.

Beck: Wild story! I guess that mean couple never heard that "Jehovah's Witnesses Are The Happiest People in the World"!
