Alan F. and wife beaten while on vacation.
by seven006 inour friend alan f. and his wife julie have been on vacation in oregon for a week.
they took a couple days to visit the oregon coast and rented a beach house in a small town south of cannon beach.
i drove down from portland yesterday to spend the day with them and their daughter julie and my son abe.

My uncle was found DEAD this morning
by Fire Dragon inmy jw dad called me this morning and told me that he found my jw uncle dead, face-down on the floor in his home.
he's taking it hard.
i was shocked to hear him say that he wanted me to be with the family.

I am glad that you will be able to go to his funeral.and to be with your family. It's at time like these that families find out how much they need and depend on each other.

WERE YOU CONSIDERED A GOOD EXAMPLE?
by minimus inhave you ever had to deal with the thought that you really weren't that good of an example?
perhaps, the congregation was encouraged to pioneer or reach out for bethel service or go to seldom worked territory, etc.
and when you applied, you were told that you didn't qualify.

I was an excellent example. I pioneered, every summer we would go where "the need is greater:, my husband volunteered to help at Bethel on the weekends. Yes, our family was a shining example.

Gary, I remember those Thursday night meeting when it would have made all the difference in the world if I could have just worn the pantsuit that I had worn to work. Bu no, I have to put on heels and pantyhose and my long flowing flowery dress so that I would be dressed "appropriately" for the meeting.
Added to that that sometimes I was so rushed getting the kids ready for the meeting and getting something to eat that I would oftentimes just grab my dress and accessories and change in the women's room at the Kingdom Hall.
I had no personal boundaries, and my choices were all watchtower inspired.

Daffy is unintelligible, obviously suffering from some sort of mental defect and is in desperate need of medication to calm him down.
He's been blown up and blown apart so many times that his ability to still make an appearance in cartoons borders on the truly miraculous.
You, my dear, are Fodhorn Leghorn. Ah, yes. This chicken is strong, decisive and knows his own mind. Of course, at times he can be a bit looney, a bit over the top, but that only makes him more adorable. Yep, Daffy NO! .............. Foghorn, YES!

what has been said up to now about the jw elders taking direction from the governing body to not be the worlds police and also protecting the image of the organization is all true, but only part of the root cause of the problem ... until the root cause is cured, child molesters and other criminals among jehovah's witnesses will go unreported ... and this will lead to their demise as an organization.
the root cause of the problem is this: jws, and no less the elders, believe that they are:.

A very good, well thought out post. Thank you for sharing with us.
However, for your premise to be true you would have to begin by assuming that the Governing Body, the entity for which comes all rules and regulations passed on to the elders at their individual congregations, are of high moral character, that they are truly concerned with the welfare of the publishers and that they honestly believed that there were the Faithful and Discreeet Slave mentioned in the Bible. Their desire to help all brothers and to keep the congregation clean would be above reproach and they would be recognized by all as the spiritual people they claim to be.
Amazing, this is just not so. These men are only interested in maintaining their corporate appearance. They know that substantial contributions do not come to organizations that are identified as corrupt. They talk the talk, but their help goes only so far as making sure that each member of their organization is fit and able to peddle their literature and make recruits.
If they were not so interested in their public image, then why hire public relations people to work for them in many cities around the world, to make sure that newspapers report positively about their actions, to make sure that the public equates the name of Jehovah's Witnesses with fine, clean, spiritual people.
Of course, there be some men at the top who are fine men and who really believe their role is identified in the scriptures, but by far the majority of them are corrupt and so the things they do and the rules they make are intended to further that corruption. It is just too bad that the poor rank and file, fine men and women who want to serve Jehovah, are doing nothing less than worshiping a publishing company.

at that time, i had been out of the organisation - and perfectly happy - for about twenty years.
and one day during a slow afternoon in the office - i typed "jehovah" into a search engine (something that had never occurred to me before in my many years online prior to that) and wham!

Very insightful post Duncan.
Weathering the storm and waiting for it all to blow over has always been the society's response to scandal. They feel that getting rid of the ones they have pinpointed as the cause of their trouble, getting their public relations people to see that "good" articles are published about them and urging the rank and file to put in more hours in field service, thus making them more viisible, is the way to handle these kinds of problems. After all, its worked before. Taking a hard line towards disfellowshipped ones, essentially cutting them off from those who might be influenced by them has, after all, worked in the past.
This time might be different though. This time there is the internet and the realization that the world is not such a big place after all. News can travel across the world with just the click of a mouse.
This time, God willing, might be different.
