Hi Thinkers Wife: Do you know the actress Barbara Hershey. Well in the '70's she changed her name to Barbara Hershey Seagull as a result of reading this book. She's dropped the Seagull now, but your post made me remember that.

No one expects perfection from the WBTS. Indeed anyone with a brain can see just how imperfect they are. But because they have always proclaimed that theirs is the organization that has the "Truth" you are led to wonder when you see the many inconsistencies and outright untruth that are employed by them. Truth can be expanded upon or added to, but truth can never be changed. Their truth changes constqntly and no one in the organization is allowed to questions why. You are just supposed to accept what they say, do it, and not question it. In fact their whole religion is built on the whims, fears and creative imagination of a 19th century haberdasher. Its not their imperfections that disheartens me. Its their refusal to take responsibility when they are wrong and their conceit in declaring that in spite of these errors that they are the only true religion on earth. If the WBTS can claim imperfection and still be the only true religion, that its members are the only ones that will be saved then why can't they acknowledge that perhaps Catholics, or Baptists, or other denominations also be true religions. They all have imperfections too. What about that religion that uses snakes in their service. They have biblical reference for what they do too and even though some of them are bitten by the snakes and die, they still meet week after week, with their children, and handle snakes. However, if nothing else the WBTS always comes up with some spiel to cover their tracks and I fear that this is just their latest one.

Long-distance Relationships?
by mindfield ini'd like to ask for a tidbit of advice... if you don't mind!
being the inexperienced 18-year old that i am, and with the close-minded parents that i have, it can be hard to find some good, reliable advice.
so here's my dilemna.

Hi Reborn: I think you just rained all over Mindfield's parade. Anyway, he doesn't have to worry about the age difference unless he is planning on having sex with the girl and I don't think he's thinking along those terms yet (you're not, are you?). Anyway, you've got to start somewhere and beginning with a girl whom you already knows likes you romantically is certainly a good way to start. So go visit her and even if you can't drive yet take the bus or get someone to drive you. GO GOR IT and Good Luck!

Kids and the JW Religion
by txwild91 ini am a divorced exjw with 3 children who live with their jw dad.
they are 16, 13 and 11. i am worried about the fact that they were raised as jw's and are now questioning if they want to make this their life or not.
while that is not a bad thing i am worried because they were immersed in this religion from the time they were born until i left the religion about 3 years ago.

Thats what parents are for, to give their kids guidelines and principals. Surely you have noticed that in the Kingdom Hall not all children turn out well even though they were immersed in the teachings of the organization since childhood. Children do not need fear of the elders and fear of an organization for them to turn out well. Its good for your kids to question their religion. Its even healthy. Hopefully your JW husband will listen to them and respect their wishes. I hope so. I wish you the best.

XJWs Gutless God Trashing Wimps?
by IslandWoman inhey, jehovah the god of jws gets trashed big time here, he gets called all kinds of names, he gets his face rubbed in the gutter all the time.
now, this is somebody's god!
but no matter, it is allowed!.

Actually I think that the Governing Body of JW's and JW's themselves get the brunt of the bashing here. I think it is unfair to call x-JW's gutless god trashing wimps because you interpret most of the negative sayings as against "Jehovah" the god of the JW's when such is not the case. Its actually the way the society uses their god "Jehovah" to inflict harmful and unfair laws and regulations on their followers in his name.

Where Would You Live If You Could???
by LB ini have been many places.
a few years ago i left california to move to oregon so life could slow down a bit.
it has and i love it here.

I love in New York City and though its noisy, dirty and at times absolutely crazy I would not want to live anywhere else. I guess that's why a paradise earth as depicted by the WT never really appealed to me. Who wants to be sitting on a big lawn all day eating fruit and playing with animals. Not me!

Childbearing in THIS time of the End
by Thirdson inresponsible childbearing in this time of the end .
i heard the talk that formed the basis of this article in the summer of 1987 while attending with my pregnant wife.
the stress was on not having children and devoting lives to preaching the watchtower's message.

I know many older women in the organization today who did not get married and have children because they were counseled by the WT not to and they regret it. At least people should be given a choice and not be pressured into spending their total time in the organization's service. In fact, I don't think marriage was popular until Nthan Knorr got married to this knockout blond. At that time they sort of eased off the not getting married thing, but held on to the not having kids thing. Anyway, the organization is just looking for people to spend as much time going from door to door as possible to sell their books and magazines and to recruit other suckers like themselves.

How was it possible?
by ozziepost indo you think it's possible to fall in love with someone by reading their words of love to someone else?.
that seems to be the only explanation to a life-changing experience related in the april 1 issue of the watchtower.. the experience tells of a 102 year old woman from russia.
it says that "one evening in 1999, they read a scripture to (her) that touched her heart.
-

She was 102 years old, she heard the word "body" and got all flustered. Actually, probably anything would have touched her heart. Poor old dear and now her agitation is being exploited for WT propaganda.
