Thanks - I went to the website and really enjoyed reading the article. Since its a British magazine, I'm glad to have seen it. At the end of the article a JW elder is quoted as saying that they have many mixed-marriage couples in their organization, it is not something they discourage and that disfellowshiping does not sever family ties. Is he kidding!! I don't know how he could tell such lies with a straight face!

When I was an active JW, my closest friend was the wife of an elder who had been disfellowshipped because of an affair with a pioneer. I loved her and we got along great together. I considered her my very best friend. We were the same age, had the same number of children and shared many wonderful times together. I trusted her implicitly and confided in her all of my deep, intimate problems and she likewise confided in me. Once when my husband and I were having marital problems I got tired of the constant bickering and became afraid of what it was doing to the children, so I decided to go and visit my brother in California for a while. No one else in the congregation knew why I was going to California, but my friend knew that I was contemplating a divorce and that it was even possible that I might stay in California. Well, my husband I worked out our problems and when I returned back home about six weeks later I got the shock of my life. My "friend" had gone to the elders and told them about my marital problems, why I had made the trip to California and other intimate details I had entrusted her with. I couldn't believe it! When I confronted her and asked her why she had betrayed me she gave me some spiel about keeping the congregation clean. Well the first night at the Kingdom Hall after I came back the PO announced that they were taking the book study out of my home and there were other consequences resulting from her betrayal that I don't want to get into now. Gee, its been years now and you know I am still furious at her for what she did. Anyway, have any of you been betrayed a JW you thought was your friend?

What Should People Know About Jehovah's Witnesses
by expatbrit ina couple of very basic questions for you good folks.. 1)imagine that you are joe public who has never had any real contact with jehovah's witnesses.
none of your family are, or your friends.
you occasionally say "not interested" to them on saturday mornings.

I'd tell them about the sales meetings that are held every week and how we are trained to go from door to door to sell our books and magazines. I would also emphasize that this sales meeting is a part of our worship to God.

What is your fondest/or not memory of cargroup ...
by ofcmad inthe compassionate toliet thread brought this frightening memory to mind.... the field service assignments!.
did you all have the same feeling of dread of being stuck with a particular person.. knowing that you would have to listen to their dribble throughout the day.. or listening to that poor sister's sinus condition where she would make that, for lack of a better way to describe it, hock-a-luegy sound with her nasal passages every 10 minutes.
then lets not forget the positive side.. how you wished with glee, and finally got to work with the car group that would goof off half of the day and the other day go to not-at-homes that would definitely still be not-at-homes.. *************************************.

Ofcmad: You mentioned being an officer in your post. Were you a police officr? I didn't know witnesses could be police officers.

does the bible condem smoking??
by master chief inthink about it if the bible says we must present our bodies as a living sacrifice to god and we must be holy because god is holy is that really possible, well i would say no and do you wanna no why "well im gonna tell you anyway".well think about driving our cars we r deliberately polluting the earth which god condems, and what about the food we eat which contaminates our bodies, which i think would really corrupt our bodies, and think about it we are imperfect according to the bible so how can we make ourselves holy.also imagine a jw has aids and then is prescibed a drug which can corrupt our bodies but helps the patient with his suffering (ie:ganga is given to aids sufferers to help them to regain appetite for eating)but i suppose that would be ok for that purpose.one more thing for the last few months ive been coughing a lot and i havent smoked for years but guess what i smoked a menthol fag today and voila my coughing dissapeared so do you think the fag helped to cure this problem mmmmm i wonder if that is a sin??
?

Hi Master Chef: The Bible also tells us that "all things are lawful, but not all things are advantageous". So while it may biblically okay to smoke you will have to suffer the consequences of that decision and those consequences could even include death. So you should carefully weigh what the results of your decision will be.

What's yer favourite TV Comedy of all time?
by VioletAnai inmine would definitely have to be the young ones.
i'm such a sucker for brit humour.
just the thought of viv and rick - cracks me up.. what gets you giggling away?

Hi Violet, I never heard of the Young Ones. I guess it was strictly a British show. My favorite comedy of all time is The Andy Griffith show. I loved Barney the deputy sheriff. He was a comedic genius.
