Even though they always preach love among the brothers as an identifying mark of a true christian, their friendship is often extended with one hand on a switch, ready to be flicked the moment you are inactive, disassociated or disfellowshipped. Once we realize that we won't expect too much from the "friends".

Forgotten/Unforgotten Friends
by kheli insince i am recently out of the "truth", i still find that i have a couple of people that i really miss.
i have managed to get past the stage of obsessing about whether or not certain people still think/care about me.. but, every now and then i wonder about my (ex)best friend.
she was like a sister to me.

Actually I was born in the truth, as they say. My grandmother was a witness and my mother was a witness. That is just the way it was. We went to meetings, we went out in field service, we didn't asociate with people who weren't witnesses. When you are that close to a religion you really don't see its flaws because you've grown up with them all your life. When they make changes in doctrine you don't see it before thatsw just the way it is and has always been. I didn't have doubts until much later and I think this UN fiasco is just the last straw. I remember when relatives came to visit we couldn't even take them to the UN because of its association with evil christendom. If we were walking down the street that the UN was on we used to cross the street. I was really stupid then. Now to find out that the organization that I cherished is also a part of the UN is just too, too much. I refuse to take anymore or to be a part of such gross hypocracy. I now feel like a dieter who has been on the Atkins diet for a while. Afterwards, they don't even want to see meat. Well, I feel that I don't even want to hear about any religion and now I am having doubts as to whether a god really exists or not. I guess I have a lot of baggage to work out.

I used to be a gungho witnesses. I did it all. I was even a full time pioneer with small children and I used to drag my kids with me from door to door, in the heat of summer and in the cold of winter. Goin from door to door in buildings where crime was rampant and where I should not have been in the first place. But I was so sure I was doing Jehovah's will that I was actually glad to do. I now cring at the thought of those days. We even arranged groups to go where the need was greater every summer. And of course, lets not forget the never ending round of meetings that had to be attended. In addition to the regular five meetings, there were also meetings on the weekends for field service and then there were mid-week meetings for field service. The kids and I went to them all. I was totally out of myt mind. I see that now. But little kids being what they are they sometimes were tired and fell asleep during the meeting (can you blame them). I tried to keep them awake with pencils and crayons but there was only so much I could do. Well, then I found out that Sister Blabbermouth was going around says "She's a pioneer so why aren't her children trained." Well, one day I got a visit from the elders. They didn't come to praise my efforts they came to tell me that maybe I should not be pioneering because my children were not trained. In retrospect, they were right. I shouldn't have have been pioneering dragging my kids all over the place, but at the time I thought I was doing Jehovahs will and that I was assuring my place in the new order. Before this they were encouraging me all over the place, you know, parts on the assemblies, etc. Now, they were telling me that because my kids got sleepy during the meetings I couldn't pioneer any more. I couldn't understand it. (Opps, its late, I've gotta go.) Anyway, to make a long story short, after more meetings and talks with the elders and the CO I just became frustrated and disgusted and stopped going to meetings. Gradually, at first, then I just stopped answering my door and telephone for a while. They got the message.

Prisca: Thanks for your support. The reason I did not respond right away was because I was busy with dinner, the dishes and the kids. Its entirely possible that when people don't respond right away that they may be with other things and we should not make assumptions about them and call them name. Also, I have to share my computer with my kids and cannot monopolize it all the time. I want to assure you that I am not a troll and am very glad that this site gives me a chance to vent some of my feelings. Again, thank you.
Lastly, I am not a Troll!!! -

Sorry Beck-Melbourne: I didn't really read your entire post until just now and I apologize. I didn't mean to ignore your question. Well, what happened to my Grandma and my daughter has just reinforced the doubts that I have been harboring about this organization. I am a baptized member of the organization if that is what you are referring to, but I really don't consider myself a witness anymore. After all, I had been inactive for over 13 years and when I started going back to the meeting, the UN scandal happened and this seems to be the last straw. I don't know if I want to disassociate myself but I am thinking about it. You see my whole family and my extended family are all witnesses and I don't know if I want to lose all of that yet. But I know that I am definitely not going to the Hall again. Anyway, again I apologize for not responding sooner. and..... I AM NOT A TROLL.

Whats the dumbest thing you were counselled for?
by Beck_Melbourne ini was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.
if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.
one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.

Once we had visited the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York and in the gift shop we purchased a rubber replica of the Statute of Liberty. Actually, it was an eraser, maybe three inches high and green. When we got home we placed in on top of the television standing upright and forgot about it and just left it there. Well, the book study was at our house and when it was over, the study conducter pulled us over in the corner and said that we had to throw away our eraser statute because we as witnesses did not look to that as our liberty, we instead looked to Jehovah Kingdom. When the study group left we laughed hysterically.

Hi Ashitaka: Yeah, I know, it is a lot in one day. However, since everyone in my family is one of Jehovahs Witnesses I have a lot of venting to do and now I've found a place to do it. By the way, my daughter's dress was not too tight, it was too short, at least accoding to the elder. It was an a-lined dress so it was not tight at all. Anyway, loved your San Francisco poem. You're a real fine poet.

My cousin just called me and gave me some distressing news. It seems that last night my grandma was publicly reproved at the Kingdom Hall. My grandma was born is 1900 so she is now well over 100 years old. She is one of the so-called annointed and still has the old phonograph she used to carry around with her from door to door playing records on. She is, however, still quick witted and able to get to all of the meetings. It seems that she had been observing someting of a romantic nature between one of the married elders and a young, unmarried sister in the congregation. She mentioned this to one of the sisters and somehow it got back to the elders. So they pull this old woman into the back room, tell her that she has been gossiping about one of the older men in the congregation, show her some scriptures and advise her that they are going to show her mercy by not disfellowshipping her. They are only going to publicly reprove her. This is because my grandma stood firm behind her story and told them that she believed that something was going on and that they should investigate it. Its sad though. Grandma has been a good, solid witness for so many years you'd think that would show her more respect than that. I feel so bad for her but I don't know what to do. She is too old and to set in her ways to change now. Anyway, I just felt like sharing.

Hello everyone. This is my very first post on this site and I am happy to be here. I would like to rely a little experience to everyone. Recently, I went back to the Kingdom Hall after an absence of almost thirteen years. I spent a lot of those years happily raising my children but once in a while experiencing twinges of guilt about missing meetings, etc. Anyway, a few minutes after I arrived home from that meeting the telephone rang. It was Mister Elder calling and I thought he was calling to tell me that he was glad to see me at the meeting after such a long while. Well, no, actually he was calling to tell me that my daughter's dress was to short and if she were to continue coming to meetings then her dress would have to be much longer. I was shocked. My daughter is not baptized; she is 19 years old and a beautiful girl (okay I'm prejudiced). I had gone to Macy's and bought her a beautiful black dress just for the occasion. I didn't think it was too short and neither did she. She refuses to go back to the Kingdom Hall anymore. And wouldn't it have been better if after having gone to the meetings for a while and she had her consciousness raised and then took it upon herself to drop her himlines instead of someone dictating to her that she should drop them. What do you think?
