Logic and reasoning
by dutyfree ini have several questions, the first of which concerns the blood issue.. i am a bit puzzled as to why jws insist on refusing to accept blood, even if it means the difference between life and death.. in the bible it says,'... you should abstain from blood...'.
how are we to interpret that?
well, bearing in mind that it was written several thousand years ago, it would seem logical to assume that the writer's intended meaning was to persuade the people living in that time not to drink blood.

(Soon to be) an Extinct Species?
by dutyfree injws all over the world will not be happy bunnies to hear that the number is falling, especially is countries like germany, japan and canada.
currently standing at just over 6 million, we could be down to 5m by the end of next year!!.
any guesses as to how long before we are rid of these pseudo-religous people and they are made extinct, like the dinosaurs?

Prediction time, again?
by dutyfree inmost of us are aware of the number of times the wtbts has made predictions that have failed to come to pass... 1881, 1914, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1935, 1945, the big 1975, to mention just a few and there was also one in 1983, i am led to believe?
i would be interested to hear more about that one as i am not aware of this one!.
q: is it true that about 6 years ago the wtbts announced that it would be making no more "claims" about when we could expect the end of the world... at least it would no longer be specifying dates.

Probably the Biggest Con in the World
by dutyfree ini have a question:.
why is it that since the inception of this bizarre religion, there was no problem with blood transfusions during russell's reign, no problems during rutherford's term and then out of the blue... no blood!.
as my jw tenant said to me the other day, '...you cannot mis-interpret that line in the bible (referring to the passage which says, '...you should abstain from blood...').. if that is the case, why did it take over 60 years for the jws to realize that there was a problem after all, and thus issuing a total ban?.

The Blood Issue
by dutyfree ini have a question about the infamous blood issue, which i am sure will be very easy for some people to answer.. in the bible, niv, nwt, kj or whatever, the line, '...you should abstain from blood...' is taken literally by the witnesses and they do not take into account other scriptures whilst reading it.. what other scriptures are there in the bible to support the theory that the writer's intended meaning was not to take it literally?
so, in other words, i have argued with jws that it means to not drink blood as there were no iv needles around then to inject the blood into the veins.
but are there any other scriptures to back this up?.

Independent Thinking - Prohibited?
by dutyfree inthere are many people who claim that jws are brainwashed... i am not going to disagree with that statement!.
i have read somewhere that jws are specifically instructed not to think independently and/or logically, as that is satan's way of getting to you!.
when i told this to someone recently she said she was an independent thinker and had never heard that - unfortunately i cannot remember where i heard or read it - i think it was on a website.

No more predictions for the Apocalypse?

1975: Much ado about nothing?
by dutyfree inmany of the senior witnesses out there, i am sure will remember the spring/summer of 1975 and the amount of excitement that was in the air surrounding the anticipation of what the new year would bring.. i have no recollection of such events as i was still in short trousers and wearing a strange cap, but anyway.... fred franz, the vice president at the time gave many talks to 000's of people about how much everyone was looking forward to 1975 and the wonderful things it would bring... without making an explicit statement as such, but the implications were all there.
these talks actually began in about 1966. the anticipation grew too much for some people and many began to heed mr franz's advice about selling their property to live out the last months on the earth in the pioneer service.
he also encouraged the young people not to pursue a career but rather to be more active in "the truth".

Versions of the bible
by dutyfree inthere are many versions of the bible, as we all know.
we have the king james version, the new international version (the most widely accepted one), the new world translation.... in the nwt version, we will find the word jehovah about 237 times.
yet, in the original greek manuscript it does not appear once.
