I think Fred Franz was delusional and truly believed the drivel he came up with. And I think the GB went right along with him on the 1975 prediction. I also think Fred Franz truly enjoyed being looked up to as a bible scholar and was a very prideful person, though perhaps giving an aura of humility. I agree with Nickolas, I would like to see a copy of the 1974 talk.

Why did the WTBS endorse 1975?
by jay88 inis it not true that the leaders knew that it was a blatant lie when the 1975 teaching was propagated in the 60's?.

Former Jehovah's Witness Preacher Arrested for Playing Strip Poker With 14-Year-Old Boy
by insearchoftruth inhttp://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2010/11/former_jehovahs_witness_preach.php.
strip poker can be a fun party game when played by visually -- and age -- appropriate gamblers.
it's a problem, however, when one of those playing is a preacher -- it's an even bigger problem when the only other player is a 14-year-old boy.. .

Doubtfully, they will be kicked out if caught and willing to admit to it. However, there are documented cases where they deny, deny, deny, have even gone to prison, but the congregation still believes them and they continue as JW's in good standing. And then there are the good ol' boy clubs among the elders that overlook wrongdoing or are willing to just give a slap on the hand and keep it secret, with victims and what they have gone through never considered by them. In theory, the Org. (borg) does not tolerate indecency, but in practice that just ain't necessarily so.

I had a fat, dumb sister tell me I should not have bought penny loafers to wear, but since I had I should not put pennies in them because it had to do with bringing luck. Another fat, really, really dumb sister told me that we were not supposed to see PG movies. I had run into her at the store while I had my kids with me and they had announced that we were going to see a PG movie that evening. I asked her if that was in the Watchtower or did someone just say it. She hesitated it briefly and then announced it was in the Watchtower. She didn't care where it was from; she just wanted to stop me from taking my kids to the movies. I just looked at her and thought what moron she was and we went to the show that evening.

THis is what I would be - Unitarian Universalist.
Unitarian Universalism is a religious community characterized by support for a "free and responsible search for truth and meaning". [ 1 ] Unitarian Universalists do not share a creed; rather, they are unified by their shared search for spiritual growth and by the belief that an individual's theology is a result of that search and not obedience to an authoritative requirement. Unitarian Universalists draw on many different theological sources and have a wide range of beliefs and practices.
Historically, both Unitarianism and Universalism had roots in the Christian faith. Contemporary Unitarian Universalists do not necessarily subscribe to the historic beliefs of Unitarianism and Universalism, espousing a rather hands-off approach to religion, whereby the followers could be considered atheistic, devout, and all points in between.

If you don't attend a judicial committee...
by bottleofwater inwill you get automatically disfellowshipped?.
-
mimimimi
They will do whatever they choose to do, whether you are there or not. I was not even invited to the JC where I was disfellowshipped. One of those elders called me on Sunday morning and told me my disfellowshipping was going to be announced at the meeting that morning. That was back in 1975 and I don't remember for sure, but I think I did refuse to go to the JC.

started a firestorm on facebook
by mimimimi inlast friday i posted something supportive of gays on facebook - it was as follows: put this on your status if you know or love someone who is gay.
my wish is that people will understand that being gay is not a disease nor a choice- people who are gay are not looking for a cure but acceptance and equal rights... 93% won't copy and paste this.
will you make it your ...status for at least one hour?

kurtbethel,
Yes, I agree with that. But I get a kick out of it because I can keep up with my nieces and nephews, as well as my youngest son, who I don't see a lot of, and his girlfriend. And I have friends on there who post family pictures that I like to see. I usually don't post anything, but I posted this particular thing to be supportive to another one of my nieces who has a gay family member and had already posted what I posted.
I am amazed at the people who go into facebook several times a day and post whatever they are doing all the time. I don't know how they find time for it or why they think anyone is interested. But there are some things that I am interested in. Another one of my nieces yet had a premature baby in June and he is still in the hospital and has had to overcome a lot and put on body weight. She keeps updates on there about him and how he is doing and I really appreciate that, especially since she is in Minnesota and I am in Illinois. Not everything on facebook is worth taking your time to read, but some things are. It's like anything else, take what you need and leave the rest.

Welcome! I lurked here for a long time before I joined too. And I went through so much guilt because I could not keep up with the demands of the Watchtower Society. So glad for you and your wife that you have been able to fade together. I look forward to hearing more from you.
