Yeah, the research issue is a big one. Most witnesses FEEL as if they DO research thoroughly, but really, MOST haven't researched ANYWHERE but the WTBTS publications.
If you "Researched" Scientology or the Unification Church, only in their own publications, you would think that both of those groups had the one true path. So this method of researching from one source, is not just flawed... but absolutely dangerous.
However, try pointing this out to a witness...

It's a really weird, morbid doctrine, but is it really so weird coming from the witnesses? They think that everyone besides them is going to be brutally murdered by God.

Stezza,
The religion is so awful I don't even consider it a religion anymore. It's a destructive cult. I wonder exactly how many families lie destroyed from shunning and how many people have died because of blood?
Good luck getting your mother to think for herself. -

Questions From Readers: Hunting/Fishing
by inkling in.
i guess this means you can maim and kill animals all you want, just so long as you don't enjoy it too much.. sorta like being a isrealite warrior who makes a living killing people but yet is commanded to "hate violence".
[inkling].

FACEBOOK - How can you protect yourself from the elders?
by jwfacts ini am a member of facebook and have been able to locate a few long lost friends, including some are exjws.. i have also linked up with some active and inactive jws on facebook that i still keep in touch with.
however, this means that other jws are able to see who i associate with.
this has got already one person in trouble.

I would say that your active JW friends are in danger of being discovered. If they have other active JW friends on their list, they could easily be sold out to the elders, especially if they decide to end their facebook account for the furtherance of the lord or something like that, they could get your friend's canned.
Do what I do, have a JW account and an ex-JW account. -

Admins, So sorry about that F Bomb. Please forgive :)
BetterDaze, When I first came on this board, I was still a JW in my mind. This board, and the awesome supportive attitude of everyone here was a big part of my awakening. I'll never forget that. The support system of Ex-JWs and Non-JWs I've built aside from this board is all people I'd lost contact with because of the Cult, so I felt it necessary to undo some of the damage I'd done, plus I missed them.
AuldSoul, I've come a long way. Still haven't come out of the apostate closet, but I'm getting there. Thanks for thinking about me.
Jgnat & Blondie, so funny that you mention a cruise. I'm planning on talking with my wife after we get back from our cruise in November. I wasn't doing this for the reason you mention, just because I didn't wan't to have to cancel the cruise (its with a jw couple) However, what you mentioned reminds me of how Steve Hassan got out of the Moonies when he landed in the hospital. Also, I have noticed that my wife is more normal and less judgemental after missing even 1 Meeting. Being gone for two weeks might help. Great advice.
Unfortunately, I had developed a defeatist attitude when it came to my situation, but reading Steve Hassan's book is helping me feel empowered and less afraid, and more positive about how things may go with my wife if I can manage to be smart about it.
We'll see,

Just as a quick update. I'm still in, but I've given myself a deadline of the end of the year to talk to my wife about how I feel about the WT. I'm not joking. I mean business. It's happening.
I've connected with allot of old friends who've left the org and have been getting a lot of support from them, also old friends that aren't JWs. I've also been reading "Combatting Cult Mind Control" by Steve Hassan.
My apologies to anyone who's messaged me at that old myspace. I've abandoned it. If you want my new one, PM me!

New Light Coming?
by dontomas inhi - i have jw friends (really!
) and have gone to kh for some talks and study every couple of weeks.
things like the new watchtower policy, selling buildings (i am from nyc and know the heights well - that will make a boatload of money), the sex abuse settlements, drop in membership and donations, and some of the changes i have seen in the magazine (the annointed qfr, for example).

WTwizard, I think that ALL of what you're saying won't happen, but IT COULD! And that's whats scariest, at some point there's going to be a showdown. My wife already kind of knows that I'm not down with the Kool-Aid since I won't budge on certain things. It could get ugly.
Amen, come lord Satan!
