Rattigan350, the book Revelation - Its Grand Climax at Hand identifies 1919 as the year Jesus recognised "the small band of genuine anointed Christians as his 'faithful and discrete slave'" (p.63) as well as the year when the male child was born to the woman of Revelation 12 (p.183).
Although there was a convention in September 1919 at Cedar Point, Ohio, the convention with the theme "Advertise the King and Kingdom" was in 1922.

thinking back when i was a true believer these are probably the top ten reasons why i believed jws are the true religion.
1. they show love among themselves by not going to war.
not killing your fellow believers in any circumstances, including war, would seem to be a very basic requirement for true christianity.
Their being no part of the world which included refusing to support either the government military or the "freedom fighters" in apartheid South Africa, refusing to salute the flag or sing either the national anthem or "freedom songs". It was a faith that lived what they preached in a polarised country in which the churches were equally polarised.

this is a question that has preoccupied the minds of the governing body " when will the last anointed be taken up to heaven?
" when did this nonsense begin ?
slimboyfat : ... that would tend to suggest 1935 no longer has any bearing on the timing of the first resurrection either.
No, I don't think so. The argument is that it was in 1935 that the identification of the great crowd referred to in Revelation 7 occurred. As that identification was given by one of the 24 elders (who represent the 144,000), it is clear that some of the 144,000 must have been resurrected by that time. So the start of the first resurrection could not be after 1935.
While it is true that 1935 has been dropped as a significant date related to when the selection of the anointed ends, the fact remains that it was then that the great crowd were identified.

Vanderhoven7 : 1918: This year is critical to current Watch Tower eschatology.
No longer. It is simply an interesting possibility. The Watchtower of January 1, 2007 discussed the first resurrection and says :
Jesus Christ was anointed as the future King of God’s Kingdom in the fall of 29 C.E. Three and a half years later, in the spring of 33 C.E., he was resurrected as a mighty spirit person. Could it, then, be reasoned that since Jesus was enthroned in the fall of 1914, the resurrection of his faithful anointed followers began three and a half years later, in the spring of 1918? That is an interesting possibility. Although this cannot be directly confirmed in the Bible, it is not out of harmony with other scriptures that indicate that the first resurrection got under way soon after Christ’s presence began.
The same Watchtower is slightly more positive that the first resurrection started between 1914 and 1935, but while 1914 is the terminus post quem, the terminus ante quem of 1935 is "indicated" but not certain.
What, then, can we deduce from the fact that one of the 24 elders identifies the great crowd to John [Revelation 7:13,14] ? It seems that resurrected ones of the 24-elders group may be involved in the communicating of divine truths today. Why is that important? Because the correct identity of the great crowd was revealed to God’s anointed servants on earth in 1935. If one of the 24 elders was used to convey that important truth, he would have had to be resurrected to heaven by 1935 at the latest. That would indicate that the first resurrection began sometime between 1914 and 1935.

KerryKing : WTB&TS of Ireland is listed as a company, not a charity. Is that significant or meaningless?
It is irrelevant.
The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Ireland is both a company and a charity. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee, registered company number 105861 AND registered charity number 20011055.
The directors of the company are the same people as the trustees of the charity.
Its charitable status can be confirmed on the Irish Charities Regulator site here.
the watchtower society hedge fundseveral weeks ago it came to my attention via the e-jehovahs-witnesses discussion board that the watchtower society had devised a new money raising scheme.
the scheme is to beg and borrow money from each individual congregation account, which they deem to be in excess of the congregation's actual expenses.
i half jokingly responded to the topic then that the watchtower has become a hedge fund.
NotFormer, if the property was sold then the three new companies formed in the last two months would not have this property (Watch Tower House, Newcastle, Wicklow, AF63 RF61) as their registered address.
Further, the Watchtower, Bible and Tract Society of Ireland, which last filed accounts in April 2024, still has this as their registered address.

BoogerMan, I don't believe it's fake. I checked out the journalist's LinkedIn profile and his website and they give no reason to think he's a faker.
As you rightly point out, the Irish Bethel was put up for sale by Mason Owen Lyons in 2011, but it seems that it was never sold, as Google Maps from June 2023 shows the JW.org sign still at the gate, and it is no longer advertised by Mason Owen Lyons.
