I thought I was Agnostic until I read your definitions and looked it up in a couple dictionaries.
I do still believe there is a God and Jesus. It just seems there have been too many times someone/thing out there has been watching out for me.
I do not believe in organized religion of any kind.

by lfcviking ini am curious, what amount people on this board from their experiences of being a baptised & active jw and their subsequent exit from the jw org (for whatever reason or reasons) are now either agnostic, atheist or do some actually still believe in god?.

I had been lurking and something posted that I wanted to comment on. I had to come up with a board name and couldn't think of anything cute. I pulled out a Bible Stories book my daughter has and flipped through it. I saw Mene Mene Tekel Peres - writing on the wall. So I entered Mene Mene.
Then stillajwexelder responded with Mene Mene Tekel Parsin. I knew that sounded familiar but was not the term the book used & I didn't look it up in the Bible. I knew I had heard that before but thought Parsin came from Harry Potter. I was thinking of what they call the language the large snake spoke. It was something similar to Parsin and I don't have my HP books anymore so I couldn't look it up.
I just embarrassed myself it front of everybody and didn't know how to Edit to fix it. I'm not happy with it - sounds too much like Meanie - and I'm really not mean. Maybe I'll see if Simon will let me change it. -

Society's claim of Matt. 24:14 being fulfilled - What it could really mean
by Jourles ini've had this thought for quite a while and wonder if fits with the recent talk about the wts claiming that matt.
24:14 has been fulfilled.
my thought was this --- in the wake of the recent cutbacks at bethel, scaling back of literature, and other cost cutting measures, could the wts be preparing the r&f for the complete or massive reduction of literature that would normally be placed with "householders?

Help - I am getting confused here.
What's the deal with bleeding red ink? It was my understanding the WTBTS is pulling in many millions if not a billion $$ per year.
The literature is paid for by the JWs/publishers. If the WTBTS doesn't get enough $$ from the KH, they won't send any more literature until the debt is paid up in full. (At least that is what I have read in comments on JWD) I thought it was the R&F that is getting hosed. They pay and if they give the lit away, they don't get reimbursed. If it stacks up at home, they don't get reimbursed.
As far as selling subscriptions online, I don't think that would work because they would be back to the JSwaggart & sales tax issue. Correct? That's why the snail mail subscriptions were cut out years ago. -

Anybody a member of AAA? Would you recommend it?
by AlmostAtheist ini'm thinking about joining the aaa auto club.
my car is getting along in years and isn't going to get replaced any time soon.
i'm imagining that my stranded-on-the-side-of-the-road moment is imminent.

I have had AAA for 25 years and would not travel without it. I also love their maps and books - all free with your membership. If you buy it you must get the AAA Plus (100 mi free towing + other extras.) The regular membership is just a waste of money IMO.
One of the down sides is you usually have to wait at least an hour to get help.
On one trip my transmission went out 130 miles from my destination. The tow truck picked me up and took me the rest of the way to my daughter's work (a dealership) and it cost me $30 for the 30 mi over the 100 limit.
Another time traveling with a friend, I was driving and managed to lock the keys inside the car at a pit stop. It was late. We called a locksmith and he opened the car. I paid him and sent AAA a letter with my receipt and requested reimbursement. It arrived in no time.
Another time I had a flat on the freeway. Instead of changing the tire he loaded me up on the flatbed and dropped me off at Sam's Club. That was irritating because I didn't have a Club card. A fellow in the tire dept went ahead and changed the tire for me & I gave him a few bucks. I sent AAA a letter this time too complaining about the service and requested they reimburse me for the $$ to change the tire and also the minutes I had to use on my cell phone on hold to them trying to get help. They reimbursed me. (I now have a Sam's Club card and a cell phone with lots of minutes.)
that's my 3 cents worth :) -

It's now official: I've "turned apostate."
by Confession inthumbnail details: lifelong jw and former elder with 30 family members in.
came to realize it wasn't the truth at age 38, just over two years ago.
have been fading with my 19 year old daughter, making two, major, long-distance moves.

That makes sense. Maybe that's why people still talk to me then. They just think I am spiritually weak.

My Kingdom Hall is near extinction!!
by RULES & REGULATIONS inour kingdom hall was started in 1973 with only 3 families totaling 13 people.it grew to 85 members in the early 90's and that's because many were related to these 3 families.with older members dying, the young leaving when they reach 18, 5 divorces and many disfellowshipped, the congregation is down to 26 members.talk about low morale.
where is jehovah's blessing now?

MeneMene
Mom mentioned a few months ago how the congregations in their area are growing and thriving. (She was soooo happy) They just completed building a new assembly hall in Conyers, GA and she said it's all paid for already.
I suspect if the congregations are growing it is people moving into the area as where they are is a rapidly growing area. She doesn't go often because of health reasons so her comments could just be a bit of theocratic warfare directed at me. -

"Where exactly does it say the man was meant to live forever?" -
Even after Adam had eaten of the forbidden tree, if he had then eaten of the tree of life he could still have lived forever (Gen 3:22).
That is why God drove Adam out of the garden and placed "a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life."
Am I reading that correctly?
