I won't be watching.
What I usually do though is tape it so I can fast forward through the game and watch the commercials. Some of them are very good.

Is the "Kingdom" a "government"?
by Doug Mason inmy understanding is that the wts says the "kingdom of god/heavens" is a "government".
where do they get that idea from in scripture?
i presume that by "government" they mean "a system of exercising authority through an executive policy making body".

There is some old information in Rutherford's book "Government", Chapter 8, page 247 starts the subtopic Theocracy.
I can't get it to copy here but it says in part,
"What form of government will then control the peoples of earth? That government will be a pure theocracy. For centuries the whole creation has groaned and suffered in pain, waiting for the manifestation of that government. (Rom 8:19) Now the time has come for its establishment, and both the rules and the ruled of the earth should learn the truth and rejoice. ... The desire of the people can come only in God's provided way. "And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation." - Isa. 25:9.
"A theocracy is a government of which the chief ruler is Jehovah God. He is the Maker and Executor of its laws through his duly constituted agencies. ...
The next subtopic is Jehovah King. It goes on to say that it was in 1914 that God began to exercise his authority over the affairs of the world through his beloved Son whom he then placed upon his holy throne. ... Jehovah hath become King. ... It shall not be shaken, he will judge the peoples with equity." - Ps. 96:10, Rotherham.
"God hath become king over the nations, God hath taken his seat upon his holy throne." - Ps. 47:8, Rotherham.
"Jehovah hath become king. ... - Ps. 97:1-4, Rotherham.
"Zion is the name given to God's organization, Jerusalem is also a name applied thereto, and the two names are often used to mean the same thing. ... That government, as long as the people remained in harmony with God, was a theocracy."
I ordered the CD "Rutherford's Rainbow" from Freeminds.org. It has Rutherford's books on it. I found it interesting there was only one mention of Jesus being involved. Everything else referred to Jehovah and to God. -

The list you have is really very good. There are a few of the items that probably should be reworded to take out the "must" and replace with JWs are 'encouraged to' or something softer.
Two items that jumped out at me that the JW did not mention are:
37. You cannot accept Christmas gifts - I don't think this is an accurate statement. JWs take, take and take some more. They just do not GIVE or EXCHANGE Christmas gifts.
66. JW meeting places have no windows - this has been discussed several times lately on JWD and while some KHs do not have windows, many do have windows. It was mentioned that with the quick builds it may be easier to build them without windows but no one provided anything stating they were to have no windows.

Describe your encounters with a DFed person
by Nosferatu innow, i'm not talking about now where you're free to talk to anybody you like, but your experiences as a jw where you encountered someone who was dfed.. i recall one.
i remember answering the phone, and a former friend of my mother (dfed) called.
i passed it to my mother and one of her first questions was "have you been reinstated?

I always hated DFing sooo bad I am sure I would have gone out of my way to speak to a DFed person. It's been so long I'm having a hard time remembering specific instances of people outside the family.
There was one cousin, a biological sister, a nephew. It did not change my friendship/relationship with them at all. -

Welcome!! Yes, this board can be kind of addictive. I just found it last summer and I have learned so much. I've been out for almost 30 years (faded) but I'm beginning to think some of the effects may never really go away completely.
You are right on about the car wreck! -

Welcome to the board. I just found it last fall myself and have been amazed at all I have learned from the people here.

Why don't YOU believe anymore?
by Crumpet insomeone on another site was asking "what if they are right?
" which made me think about why i know that they are not and i wondered what was your epiphany or road to damascus moment or moments that just made you realise - hey i've been led up the garden path here!.
here was my response but i really think a list of reasons on one thread for easy reference for newbies would be good.

During the time of Jim Jones and Jonestown there was a long newspaper article telling all about that cult. I kept that article for a long time and read it several times.
The similarities with the WTS was shocking to me at the time. That one article made me sit back and start thinking objectively about the religion I was born into. -

Welcome Vinny. I found this list on Freeminds.org back early last year and was amazed at all the things the WTS has printed over the years.
I had printed out the full thing to keep and recently ordered one of Randy Watters booklets "Spiritual Food at the Proper Time" and it is the same list.
It's very good info to have - it even included info on the Jimmy Swaggart sales tax issue.
It is unbelievable all the quotes about 1975 and then for them to turn around and say it was our fault for believing 1975 was the end. -
