  The copy I have is Revision 1970. At the end of the Foreword it explains the brackets:

  " [ ] Brackets enclose words inserted to complete the sense to the English text; [[ ]] suggest interpolations in original text."

  my relationship with my parents is great even though it's been a year since i've severed all jw activities.

  The door to door work can be hazardous to householders.

  Another Georgia incident: My cousin was telling me about her neighbor several years ago that had a 3 year old child. The mother was always very careful to keep the gate shut so the child could not get out.

  JWs came to the door; then left and did not secure the gate on their way out. The child went out into the yard and found the gate open. She escaped and was found drowned in a creek in the woods at the end of their dead end street.

  So much for their important life saving work.

  How many of us remember the Jonestown massacre?

  by that i meant - how many remember being an active jw when this happened?.

  what was the general reaction from the rank & file, the elders, even the co/do?

  does anybody remember there being magazine articles on this?.

  Jonestown was the very first thing that made me realize the WTS was a cult.

  There was a very long article in the newspaper. It so impressed me that I kept it and read it several times picking out all the similarities. So many things in that article sounded just like the WTS.

  My elderly aunt was telling me the JWs that come "study" (visit) with her every week showed up in a tiny car last week.

  Before that they had always been in a big SUV. She said the lady's husband bought the car because the gas for the SUV was just too much.

  Do they continue the conventions for the favorable press?

  everytime a convention is coming to town they always banner the headlines showing favorable views of the jw's.

  of course like everything else one can follow the cash as motive.

  is this the reason that the gb continue to put on stale/unchanging/boring conventions?

  It was getting quite a few comments from X-JWs and never JWs.

  Governing Body distances itself rom the WT - is this true?

  i read somewhere that the gov.

  body and wt have created some sort of seperation in an effort to make it more difficult to place blame and responsibility with all the child abuse cases.

  a legal roadblock if you will.

  My parents are going to meet with me!

  it was two years and two months ago when i told my mother that i no longer recognize the wts religion as being "the truth.

  " as you may know, to a jw mother, this is like telling her you've decided to jump off a skyscraper.

  i have spoken to her only two times since then, and have not seen her or my dad since then.

  It's good to hear they are willing to see you.

  I had a pleasant chat with my dad today. Usually he seems to be in a hurry to get off the phone but today he was rather talkative. After a while he gave the phone to my mom. I usually talk to her more but find it tries my patience hearing how everything is so bad in the world. I always mention as many good things as I can to counter her 'signs of the end'.

  Here's hoping you have a really good visit with them.
