  Remember how great the get-togethers were in the 1980's??

  i remembers skating parties at least once a month, volleyball at the park, get-togethers where everyone would play bible charades and sing kingdoms songs, going to the river to swim with the whole congregation after the sunday meeting, spending the afternoon at the lake eating watermelon and water skiing.

  it was a great upbringing!

  also, i dont want to leave out the strong feelings of eliteness that i had even as a child, of having the truth.

  Bonnie_Clyde, I had forgotten about the orchestra. I was in the Atlanta area during the50s & 60s. We (the orchestra) would practice every week at a brothers house and then play the songs at the circuit assemblies. I played the Cello. We got in trouble with the CO at one assembly because we practiced some more at the assembly instead of going out in service on Sat morning. Everyone seemed to really enjoy sitting listening to the music. Guess we may have kept some others from rushing out to service.

  Watchtower Letter on literature change dated Feb-9.2007!

  just in case some of the folks may have wanted this letter for their records.

  at the bottom of this letter the watchtower states, "this new arrangement for publishing the watchtower will take effect in january 2008.. it is nice to know that the watchtower feels that armageddon can be delayed until then!.

  Moggy that's an interesting thought. I did not notice it before. You would think they would say 'the GB made the decision' - or 'Jehovah has inspired the GB to make the change.'
  
  Wait a minute - I got it! Jehovah suggested it and the GB approved his suggestion. Is that how it works? :)

  I was a teenager through the 60s. The JW kids were still allowed to have great parties w/ dancing. Oh, was there some wonderful songs for slow dancing then! My mom stayed at one as a chaperone and fussed at me on the way home for dancing too close to a gorgeous new brother that had moved into the area. (It was worth the fuss. :)
  
  Some of the cooler JW adults had get togethers for the teenagers. They would have a pool table and music in the rec room in their basements. You could usually count on a sip of beer or mixed drink. There was always a pretty good crowd at the ones I went to.
  
  Eventually in the later 60s some of the parties started getting a little too wild. I missed the finale where several kids got in trouble & they wouldn't let us have any more parties.
  
  Seems like we went to a lot of weddings during the 60s and 70s. It was fun to dress up in long evening dresses.
  
  I do remember going to several roller skating parties - but only remember a couple times during the summer several of us teenagers met at a lake for swimming.

  does the ability to pray come naturally??

  hey guys as you can see i am still new and still keen to hear other peoples points of view on my issues.

  anyway i always wondered because i have friends who are pentecostals who seem to have this amazing ability to pray and they feel like they are talking to god.

  i never ever felt like i was communicating with someone when i prayed it always seemed futile and it always seemed like a repetition of someone elses prayer.

  It doesn't come naturally to me. I always thought something must be wrong with me. I did try to pray when I was young but it just felt weird - and just so silly.
  
  Dad always prayed for the family at every meal but it was just something he did - it held no meaning to me. Perhaps it was all the beatings I received from my mother at the KH growing up - maybe it hardened my heart instead of making me love Jehovah.
  
  One of my sisters is a very sweet brainwashed / mind controlled JW. She prays silently before every meal no matter where she is. It makes me uncomfortable and I have to remember to be quiet for a minute while she does.
  
  There have been a few times in the last years when I was traveling alone that I felt maybe someone was watching out for me. Like when I just missed a deadly accident or an ugly storm was all around me but stayed away until I could get into a hotel. I did feel someone might be watching out for me for some reason. I did silently thank whoever might be out there/ up there protecting me - just in case they were listening and were really there.

  This Greber 'coverup' is disgusting, Isn't it?

  i had proven to myself, with help from ray franz and others, that the 'truth' was not the 'truth' about three years back - so in most cases i have paid little attention to further proof.

  once proven, always proven, right?.

  then this week, i began to do a little research into the greber thing - i typed in greber watchtower to my google seach.. 465 hits - and started to read a few of the websites.

  2006 CD ROM

  well i have the new 2006 cd rom and have installed it.

  it comes with a new program - wt reader - but wait for this - it takes 1 gigabyte of hard disk storage space for hard drive install.

  now this can be cut down by running direct from cd -rom.

  Does the CD have just publications from 2006 or does it include all the publications for the last several years?
  
  I was curious about the Awake publication numbers since they went to 1 per month. Like for instance, compare the number printed the last couple issues of 2005 when there were 2 per month and then the numbers for the first ones in 2006 after the change.

  I saw that clip of him singing with Celine Dion and I could see the amazed look on her face as she realized how good he is.
  
  The first time I saw him was on the show w/ Ally McBeal (I don't remember if that was the name of the show of just of the main character). He played a geek teenager that didn't have a date to the prom and Ally went as his date. He ended up on stage and sang a song at the prom. It gave me goose bumps!
  
  I fell in love that first time I heard him. I have his 3 CDs. To me the first one is best.

  first off hello to all this being my first post i probably should have talk about some other subject but then again not being very smart i just don't know any better.

  first off myself my wife and my daughter where bible studies for two years my son said no way would he be involved any how after about five years of pounding the door we decided to give it a go.

  i was one that just have a hard time believing that the bible is the word of god i mean it was written by man and today we put these type in a padded room you know the voices in my head type.. any way after these two years we had a change in who we studied with this was good i think as it was the knife that severed the lead we had seen many different things that where said one way then the other a few things that where in the wt that where bull and what really got to me and the wife was the judging of others for crying out loud they made a issue about my daughter dieing her hair and always seemed to judge all other religions then in their next word would say not to judge others.. we had been avoiding letting them come to study was always busy even if it was watching nascar lol my girl has been going through some what we see as normal teenage things trying to figure out who and what she is we have never in are life said do not be friends with this or that type are kids have friends that are nice to strange to gay but why should that matter hell they are not going to cause you to become gay as the jws seem to think.

  It appears from information available that the first president of the WTBTS, Charles Taze Russell, was somehow associated with Freemasons. They used to use masonic symbols on Watchtower literature and stuff back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. You might want to do a search on Google. Just enter: watchtower and masons
  
  Over 32,000 hits came up.
  
  I don't believe anyone has been able to find any creditable link between Masons and JWs in many decades.

  Lex, as a side note, remember that the NWT committee used "experts" such as Johannes Greber to assist them in the translation.

  Building paradise

  okay we're all familiar with the watchtower's hope of a eternal life on a paradise earth.

  i know as a witness i never gave it too much thought.

  i thought of a park with a nice house and a large yard of nicely groomed grass.

  Very interesting thoughts Parali.
  
  The Left Behind series of books, while fiction, was a very interesting interpretation. They took you from the rapture all the way to Armageddon.
  
  Unless I missed the last book, they never finished the story. I was waiting for their theory about what happened after the great battle = the Big A.
  
  
  Someone also wrote an excellent short story here on JWD a few months back about JWs & KHs after the Big A.
