I was raised in it, but I had a lot of cds. I was reinstated after my first DFing and I wasn't magically better and I was really stressed out trying to do every last possible thing the "right way" to bring this peace of mind I was told would come. Yeah right. So my dad said I was being unduly influenced by my music and accused me of not being able to come up with original thoughts because I was always singing verses that had to do with whatever people were talking about. I love music!!! So I took my collection of almost 100 $12-18 cds and took them around and gave them away. U2, Sublime, the Cure, Depeche Mode, so many many more. I actually threw the Sublime ones away because they sang about drugs. So, like about 2 months later I realized the music was not the problem and left for good. Thank god for Limewire. Also, when I was little, I got a unicorn plastic thing somehow, and my mom took a knife and sawed off its horn and stuck a flower in the hole. This was at the time I thought stuffed animals had feelings. I wanted to believe in fairies and unicorns and stuff. WTF?

What did you throw out when u became a JW?
by dobbie init really pigs me off now when i think back to what i was told to get rid of when i was studying.my collection of stephen king books, my new madonna like a prayer record that i loved, my alice cooper and guns and roses album.
i was even told not to listen to classical music because some of the composers led such debauched lives!also any film with an 18 certificate was a nono in case others were stumbled - even though i have seen other jws reading stephen king books and watching 18 cert films and my husband had the complete madonna collection!and of course depeche modes 'personal jesus' song which i loved.
and my lost boys album and video cos it was about vampires.i was just wondering what sort of things were you told you should get rid of and why?

I tried to read the Star Date Log to my husband and I couldn't because I was laughing too hard. Have you ever noticed people that have had their spirit almost crushed to death end up being so hilarious? After some time, distance and healing of course.

This is a little off topic, but I needed to confess this to somebody one of these days. When I was little and learned about personalized plates, I told my family I wanted mine to say I..M..A..J..W..2. One of my brothers told me I was stupid and the other one told me people would think I was a Jew.

When I was little, I heard a lot about the smurfs. One story was when a babysitter brought smurfs over for a little witness kid to play with and when the parents came home, the smurfs were dancing on the bed and there was a newspaper levitating. So scary!!! I remember being on a RV or study and the TV show Smurfs was on and normally I watched TV at other people's houses because we didn't have one, but I remember trying to not look at the screen because satan's minions were on prime-time cartoon morning! Such a test of faith.

Decisions, Decisions!!
by Bumble Bee inwe are thinking of selling our house.
right now we can't move there, but want to retire up there.
we built a small cabin over the last two summers and spend most of the summer up there and about every other weekend in the winter.

Do you have the option of buying a smaller house and renting out the one you have now? If you rent it, you can have someone else pay the mortgage off in 8 years, then after that, you can have $1000+ bucks a month for retirement or travel coming in from that house. It can be a headache to be a landlord, but sometimes, it makes a lot of sense. If you buy a "cheap house" make it the cheap one in a neighborhood of nicer ones, so that if you fix it up, it'll be worth more, not just cost more to fix. If your husband is anxious to start, let him practice on a fixer-upper. Maybe the fixer-upper could be a rental once you are ready to build on your dream lot. So I just gave you more choices, not help in your decision.

When I was a kid, my friend's MS father used to watch rated R movies to "check up on Satan and see the latest tools he was using to snare us." Wish I would've thought of that one first. Also, my dad, an elder used to say he wanted to go to Canada to see rated R movies because they weren't rated R. He was a jokester though. From what I remember, witnesses think everything is a test and god is watching, so I don't think many of them go there. but i'm sure there are a few - it would be hard for them to resist posting.

Whoa, That is totally rad. I know it has been exhausting, but I think it's awesome. I read a series of books called The Law of One, by Ra the sun god. People supposedly channelled him to learn about life on earth. He talks about dimensions and how we are in the third dimension which is about survival, and we are moving toward the 4th dimension, which is love. He talked about entities being polarized, gaining and using power either in a positive or negative way. There were beings from the 6th dimension who tried to introduce teachings to humans about love and god and evolution in a way that we could understand, but it led to wars and fighting over ideologies. Then Jesus came from the 5th dimension to teach us about love and try to correct what had happened with the interpretation of the other knowledge. Ra also talked about Jehovah being from the fifth dimension and being negative. It was weird, but oddly made a lot of sense. After losing my pardigm given to me as a child, my mind has been open to giving any information a fair listen. I've heard of spirits in astral fields and having to protect yourself. A few people have told me a quote about how depression is the natural result of being aware of life. If you look out in our world and see the suffering and have a belief structure that makes you think it's all ok, you are being a little deluded. There are healthier perspectives for seeing life, but being depressed just can mean you are paying attention. But by all mean, take a re-uptake inhibitor if that helps and you need to function. I personally have the luxury of having time and space to get upset about life (like I don't run a company or have kids). I would like to experience death of my ego. A friend of mine a few years ago had similar experiences with LSD and ecstacy. None of the hallicinatory drugs I've taken have led to an experience like you describe. There is probably no way to answer your question because who knows? But stay near the light and love.
