Both are important in a free society.

What do you think about gays and abortion now.......................?????
by vitty inwhen you saw the wt for what it was and realized it was not the truth, how did that affect your thoughts on subjects like homosexuality or abortion for example.. did you start to think differently suddenly or did it take a long time ?.................or maybe you havent changed your minds on what the wt condemns.. i was quite shocked at how i accepted my teenage son was sexually active and i talked to him about condoms and this being an important thing in his and gfs life and where they sure they were ready.
i didnt tell him not to do it !.
actually i think i always had my thoughts on different subjects that werent in line with the org, i just pushed what i really thought to the back of my mind.. there are many different subjects name one that you relate to.. .

Agnostic/Atheist/Religion
by Free ini feel that since i have lost all faith in the society, i feel myself drifting further and further into more agnosticism / atheistic thinking.i am finding it harder every day to believe in a god or holy scripture.
i actually feel more at peace now not feeling like someone is watching me.
religion now rings a wicked song in my head that sings of control, power, money, greed, and endless seas of falsehood.

Wow Heavy Hearted, that was a great question about the serpent and eve. I always wondered why it was so bad to know right and wrong when that is what becomes so important to know as a Witness. I guess it was about the disobeying. Anyways, off the subject. Welcome to the board and keep reading. Good luck.

Help, I can't seem to keep my nerve!
by restrangled inas many of you know, i have been shunned by my mother but due to all i have done for her and her attachment to me she has slowly let me back into her life,.
today i stopped by her home for decorating input and i pulled a bottle of wine from the car so that we could share it together and enjoy what we were doing.
she had one glass and went into how i must stop smoking for jehovah.

jnat has really good advice. Recently I struggled with setting limits with my parents - mom especially. I couldn't take the rejection always hanging over my head. So I decided to ask them to do a better job of shunning me and not call or email for random reasons. I even deleted an email account, so now they would have to physically show up at my house if they ever decided to. Surprising I feel a lot better - like I am worth having boundaries and a bottom level of acceptable treatment. However, sometimes I feel like I over-reacted, but I still feel good about it. Sometimes you need a break.

I am so angry
by hambeak inmy partner hambeak is a great guy.
i have known him over 20 years.
he is the most kind and gentle person i know.

Hey hambeak's partner. I don't know if you are still up reading or if you just had to vent, but I feel you. Some of us in his situation have different ways to deal with it, but most of us will justify our families' behavior to some extent because we understand where they are coming from or we used to be like that ourselves. It's really especially frustrating to our partners who weren't exposed to the bizzare world of witnesses. People that hear the stories are like, whoa, that's crazy! But people that have to live with us in the aftermath really see how sick and wrong and cruel it is. Hambeak is fortunate to have you on his side.

Lawyer Humour
by Clam ina man went to his lawyer and told him, "my neighbor owes me .
$500 and he doesn't want to pay up.
"do you have any proof?

what's the difference between a lawyer and a prostitute? A prostitute will stop screwing you when you're dead.

Three Morals
by MsMcDucket inthree moralsa little bird was flying south for the winter.
it was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field.
while it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it.

That's so true! It's nice to be able to come to these conclusions and not have to take someone else's word for it. I found the advice Witnesses gave was pretty sound - just applied to the wrong people.

What Chance Do You Think You Have?
by Legolas inok...please bare with me; i'm trying to get my thought out through a headache...lol.
what kind of chance do you think you have with god?...meaning that if the 'meekest man' on earth pissed god off, (and i still don't really know why) so that god punished him with death before they entered the 'promised land', something that moses waited over 40 years for, what chance do you think you have?.
i mean think of it....here's moses living his whole life around god (closer than anyone today) and god punished him...(btw...who can tell me what horrible crime he did anyway?).

Oh yeah Moshe, that's a sweet thought. Hey Lawrence: do you use Dr. Bronner's soap? All One! I love that soap. The god of the witnesses pretty much hates me. Likewise, if he is reality, I disapprove and don't want anything to do with him or his sick experiment. I prefer to belive we are all pieces of the source working itself out in infinite forms. Thank goodness I got to jump tracks in the middle of my life!

What a great thread. Mind if I interject here with a schizo dub story from my childhood? Kathy wouldn't always take her meds, and when she didn't she was prone to yelling in the back of the KH about how the speaker was speaking for the devil, or during a prayer, she would start muttering about how she hated the speaker and what he was saying. She would take communion at the memorial and sit in the middle of the row so the brothers couldn't pry the glass away from her. She hated my dad too when she was off her meds and one day my dad was taking the CO out in service, and they saw her on the street in the territory (near where she lived). My dad was trying to be suave and introduce the CO to a member of the WWB, and Kathy screamed at my dad and threatened to rip his balls off if he came near. It was shocking to the CO, but my dad just attributed her behavior to no meds, instead of what could have just been outspoken honesty.

I never thought I would leave. I used to be scared that my friends would lose their faith and always ask them about it. I guess I was just thinking about my own doubts, but couldn't look at myself honestly yet. I used to fantasize when I grew up I would move to a congregation that didn't know me, then maybe fade, but I kept that vision blurry on purpose.
