has anyone ever written to the society, with evidence of misquotes, and asked them for an explanation of this?
or has anyone ever written and asked them why they quote and don't give the source of the quote?
if i did this, do you think i would get into trouble in the congregation, etc.?
Jan,
Remember that a kick in the ass is a step forward--author unknown.

It seems they took their meals in the same manner in which they did their teaching. The following is from the NWT Reference Bible:
*** Rbi8 Acts 2:46 ***46 And day after day they were in constant attendance at the temple with one accord, and they took their meals in private homes and partook of food with great rejoicing and sincerity of heart,
*** Acts 2:46 (ftn) ***Or, “from house to house.” Gr., kat´ oi'kon. See 5:42 ftn, “House.”
*** Rbi8 Acts 5:42 ***42 And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
*** Acts 5:42 (ftn) ***Lit., “according to house.” Gr., kat´ oi'kon. Here ka·ta' is used with the accusative sing. in the distributive sense. R. C. H. Lenski, in his work The Interpretation of The Acts of the Apostles, Minneapolis (1961), made the following comment on Ac 5:42: “Never for a moment did the apostles cease their blessed work. ‘Every day’ they continued, and this openly ‘in the Temple’ where the Sanhedrin and the Temple police could see and hear them, and, of course, also kat' oÎkon, which is distributive, ‘from house to house,’ and not merely adverbial, ‘at home.’ ”
*** Rbi8 Acts 20:20 ***20 while I did not hold back from telling YOU any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching YOU publicly and from house to house.
*** Acts 20:20 (ftn) ***Or, “and in private houses.” Lit., “and according to houses.” Gr., kai kat´ oi'kous. Here ka·ta' is used with the accusative pl. in the distributive sense. Compare 5:42 ftn, “House.”

In the early 80's a number of young people in the congregation got together each week to study their WT lesson together. It was stopped--danger of apostacy. Some apostacy at Bethel got started that way, you know!

*** jv 351 21 how is it all financed?
Vow of Poverty--so does this mean that the Society does not pay anything into Social Security or Medicare for Bethelites, COs, etc?

went to the sunday meeting today.
the talk was the same old same old about judgement day, field service, and other things i have all ready forgotten.
by the time the talk was over i was trying to stay awake but the wt study sure opened my eyes for me in a way a few "no-doze" could never do.
Path,
As to violent pictures--I thought it noteworthy that the picture in this article seemed toned down as to violence. It appears on page 16 with the caption, "Do you hope to be spared when Jehovah destroys the wicked?". It shows survivors with smiling faces coming through a valley. In the background there are dark clouds and fire raining from the sky. No gory, gruesome images are depicted. Guess the artist leaves that to the imagination. I wonder if this is a trend for the future. Hope so for the children's sake.

does anyone have an explanation of "babylon the great" as described in the book of revelation different than as explained by jehovah's witnesses.
thanks in advance pie
The book, "The Second Coming Bible" by William E. Biederwolf, gives the following possibilities; each supported by different authorities:
Jerusalem, Heathen Rome, Papal Rome, The apostate church of the future in general (Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic and unfaithful Protestantism). The author prefers the latter possibility.
