Why does the great crowd go to memorial?

So, basically, I understand from the ex-JW frame of mind why the great crowd attends the memorial. I understand the diabolical nature of the cult and enslaving people, their minds, and taking their money.

Everyone's reasons why the great crowd attends the memorial have been accurate according to reality.

Yet,...what I'm concerned with is their reasons according to scripture. Do the JW's use scriptural proof that the great crowd is invited to the memorial to only observe?

The wt text that Blondie supplied is interesting but in those WT excerpts they don't offer any scriptural proof.

JW's are always wanting to show people how clear the bible is in regards to:

the trinity

paradise earth

God's name

refusal of blood

etc, etc......you know, they try to make it so black and white. I would like to see their answer to this.

Yes!

I've only participated once,....but I am pro peaceful protests/ marches/ picketting.

Is it effective?

The "spiritual" ones are going to say it's persecution,...but it just might cause those living on the fence to open their minds just a little bit more.

Even if a demonstration only helps to open up one persons mind in that cult then I personally think its a success.

nvrgnbk, I'm a huge arcade fire fan. Their new album Neon Bible is excellent. I'm more of a person that doesn't pay too much attention to lyrics but yesterday I was listening to them when I was driving and noticed semi JW or christian associated language in many of their songs. Track #7,...mentions the words,- resurrected,...lion and the lamb. Anyways,...I'm wondering what is behind their lyrics. I didn't quite understand your original post,...are the members of The Arcade Fire jw's?

Although the "great crowd" was identified in 1935 and the general calling said to be ended, the GC was not invited to the memorial until 1938........!!!!

In 1935 they were identified with the "great crowd" of Revelation chapter 7. In 1938 they were invited to attend the Memorial of the death of Jesus Christ as observers

Today, according to authentic records, there is a "great crowd" of dedicated, baptized Christians who actively collaborate with the small remnant of spiritual Israelites. Ever since the spring of 1938 they have been invited to attend the annual memorial celebration of Christ’s death, not to partake of the memorial emblems, the unleavened bread and the red wine, but as respectful observers.

Of course,...I'm not reading the entirety of the above articles,...but I like how they really don't offer any solid biblical evidence for the change,....or any biblical evidence for that matter.

...and what is the correlation between Revelation chapter 7 and the great crowd being allowed to be observers at the memorial?

I just read Rev. chapter 7 and I personally don't see any correlation once so ever.

I just find it interesting how the WT gives other christian religions such a hard time about adopting traditions that cannot be found in the bible, yet,...there most holy event is that very thing which they supposedly detest.

The great crowd as observers is nowhere to be found in scripture.

If you are an active JW reading this, according to your own view of scripture, you should not be attending the memorial celebration.

Looking at it through JW eyes,...Jesus didn't invite members of "great crowd" to the last supper,...right? So,...according to their own views,...the great crowd shouldn't even be present. Right?

Also,...the "do this in remembrance of me" is not referring to simply being present, mentally remembering Christ, and watching someone else parttake,...but "this do" means eating of the bread and drinking of the wine.

When I try to wrap my brain around their silly ways,...it reminds me of an M.C. Escher drawing.

JWs and the weird way they say Happy Birthday

you who don't know -- i'm daed but my mother still sends me very short e-mail about every two months.. this morning she sent me an email that said:.

25 today.

it would be sooooo wrong for someone to say -- "happy birthday" .. but its fine to mention that i am 25 today.

HAPPY B-DAY!!

I've wondered the same thing myself about the way many JW's wish happy b-days.

I'm DA'ed myself and it seems like every couple years my mom will call me up on my b-day.

She says this everytime- "So,...how does it feel to be (insert age)?!"

It irritates me so much. It's like your acknowledging my b-day,...so what the heck is the difference between saying that and saying "happy b-day".

I think it's so irritating, because when she says, "So,...how does it feel to be (insert age)?!", to me, it just brings the mind control that she is under to the fore front of my mind.

Bible Reading - Jeremiah 5

ok this is kinda twisted.. a brother in my old hall, used to always complain that he got the 'bad' bible readings.. for instance, he got this weeks reading - it include jer 5:8.. who really wants to say that from the stage?.

i got thinking, how many times does the wts have us read that verse when we are in jeremiah?.

out of the 5 times we have read jeremiah in the last 20 years, 3 of those the wts had some poor shmuck of a brother reading 5:8..

When I was around 10 yrs old I had to give a talk that was pretty uncomfortable. I can't remember the book or chapters but the entire content was about excrementing and properly digging a hole and burying your excrement.

I was working on gestures.

Cults

i was just watching the repeat of the history channel cults program.

needless to say a lot of the cults they talked about and their beliefs reminded me of the dubs to an extent.

but, it got me to thinking...has the wt$ ever featured an article on cults and recognizing them?

Another snippet I found interesting was when one of the interviewee's mentioned 'thought reform'.

This is what wikipedia has to say about 'thought reform':

In the book, Lifton outlines the "Eight Criteria for Thought Reform":

Milieu Control. This involves the control of information and communication both within the environment and, ultimately, within the individual, resulting in a significant degree of isolation from society at large.
Mystical Manipulation. There is manipulation of experiences that appear spontaneous but in fact were planned and orchestrated by the group or its leaders in order to demonstrate divine authority or spiritual advancement or some special gift or talent that will then allow the leader to reinterpret events, scripture, and experiences as he or she wishes.
Demand for Purity. The world is viewed as black and white and the members are constantly exhorted to conform to the ideology of the group and strive for perfection. The induction of guilt and/or shame is a powerful control device used here.
Confession. Sins, as defined by the group, are to be confessed either to a personal monitor or publicly to the group. There is no confidentiality; members' "sins," "attitudes," and "faults" are discussed and exploited by the leaders.
Sacred Science. The group's doctrine or ideology is considered to be the ultimate Truth, beyond all questioning or dispute. Truth is not to be found outside the group. The leader, as the spokesperson for God or for all humanity, is likewise above criticism.
Loading the Language. The group interprets or uses words and phrases in new ways so that often the outside world does not understand. This jargon consists of thought-terminating clichés, which serve to alter members' thought processes to conform to the group's way of thinking.
Doctrine over person. Member's personal experiences are subordinated to the sacred science and any contrary experiences must be denied or reinterpreted to fit the ideology of the group.
Dispensing of existence. The group has the prerogative to decide who has the right to exist and who does not. This is usually not literal but means that those in the outside world are not saved, unenlightened, unconscious and they must be converted to the group's ideology. If they do not join the group or are critical of the group, then they must be rejected by the members. Thus, the outside world loses all credibility. In conjunction, should any member leave the group, he or she must be rejected also [1] .

I also watched the History Channel program.

What I found interesting is this:

Many of the cults that they profiled thought that it was their job to begin armageddon.

Charles Manson's cult- believed he had to start a race war and that would begin armageddon. Afterwards he would rule the nations.

Aum Supreme Truth cult-(Japanese death cult) they released a deadly nerve agent in the Japanese subway systems inorder to frame the West. They wanted Japan to bomb the West and vice versa. They thought thought their actions would begin armageddon.

The Branch Davidians- David Koresh believed he was the Lamb of God and had the power to open the seven seals,...thus beginning armageddon.

The History Channel program didn't mention JW's,...but let's look at them:

JW's- growing up,...i was told that when the JW's preached the "good news" to every single person on earth then armageddon would come.

I guess this is old light now,...but when the last of the the 144,000 dies then the end will come.

I don't know if this was rumor or not but,...the tract, The End of False Religion is Near, was supposed to bring about the beginning of the end.

I'm sure there are many more that i'm leaving out, but the point is that the JW religion, too, believes that it is their job to begin armageddon.
