Baloney!! This post just caused me to remember why I now wear slacks to work (and church). I hate hate hate pantyhose and heels. I'd like to see some of those GB members dress up in hose and heels for a picnic. Also, I remember lots of comments about different attire of church members (such as some in my area where the women do not cut their hair and wear long skirts) as being just making a "show" of righteousness. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!! NanaR

by dozy inapr km insert.
"even during leisure time , such as when going out to eat after the programme , we should dress as befits ministers... and should not wear such clothing as jeans , shorts or t-shirts.
what a witness this will give to the community.".

My uncles and other relatives were Witnesses during WWII. During that time it was illegal in the U.S. to speak against serving in the Armed Forces. Therefore, none of the instructions for "counseling" young men about the draft or enlistment were written and archived. Enlistment in the armed forces was said to be a matter of individual conscience.
In reality, any person who enlisted in the armed forces was immediately considered to have "disassociated" themselves from the organization.
So the conscience thing was all smoke and mirrors.
There are written rules, and there are unwritten rules. In most circumstances, the unwritten rules are the REAL ones.

A question for all Whisky drinkers.
by lfcviking inhello chumz on the board.
nothing really to do with jwism but who prefers the american 'bourbon' type such as 'wild turkey', 'jim beam' etc or who prefers a fine single malt scotch such as 'glenfiddich' or 'glenmorangie'?
i am not trying to stir up nationalism with this question but am just genuinely curious.. lfcv.

Bourbon all the way -- Makers Mark or Jack Daniels especially :-) Ezra Brooks is a less well known (and less expensive) brand that is also excellent.
Wild Turkey is good, but that 101 stuff is easy to get too much of.
I AM a Kentuckian after all (and yes I do know that Jack Daniels is a Tennessee brew but it is of the KY bourbon type).
'Round here we use the stuff for everything from marinating steaks for the grill to filling candy (in addition to mellowing my mood from time to time).
I don't know if I like Scotch, because I've never tried it. I can drink Crown Royal or Seagrams 7 in a mixed drink, but prefer bourbon straight or on the rocks.

Dave,
I wish you the best in your journey. I hope it brings you the closure that you so obviously need.
From my personal standpoint, living well and being happy is the best revenge. But everyone is different, and every story is different.
Peace,

Were we "Unfaithful" for leaving, or were they unfaithful....
by JH inactive witnesses see us apostates as "unfaithful people" who took an oath to serve god as jw's and we stopped and left the organization.. we on the other hand, see the watchtower as unfaithful to their past teachings because they changed so much during the years.
on top of that even what they didn't change, it's not happening.. so, who was the most unfaithful, us, or the watchtower?.

When I was baptized (back in the dark ages LOL, actually in the 1960s), there was no mention of the "organization" in the baptismal questions (only 2, asked on the day of baptism). I perceived myself to be baptized, as the scriptures say, in the "name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit". My dedication was to God -- it was NOT to any organization on earth.
I am still serving God. I have NOT been unfaithful to Him, although I have left the Witness "organization".
The organization of Jehovah's Witnesses has changed dramatically in my lifetime. I barely recognize the congregations as they are now in the context of how I was raised. Particularly, my parents always encouraged me to question everything -- even the organization. Now, merely asking the questions gets one kicked to the curb.
They have given their own rules and regulations more force and effect than the laws of God.
I had to leave them to remain faithful to Him.

Jim,
When I was growing up, my father was the congregation servant. I remember how he used to agonize over Committee meetings, and I have to believe that he tried his best to help people through the process. The "system" may not have been forgiving, but my father was.
Fast forward to several years after my Dad's death, and hubby and I have 3 elders in our living room. They came, supposedly, to "shepherd" us, but they ended up grilling my youngest daughter about a report that she had (OH MY) smoked A cigarette.
This young lady was 14 years old, an unbaptized publisher, and my husband was a Ministerial Servant. My daughter, who had always been taught that the purpose of elders talking to one was to HELP them, confessed and repented in tears regarding the incident. She then proceeded to answer their questions regarding some of her friends, many of whom were engaging in conduct far worse than a one-time cigarette experiment.
The end of the matter was that my daughter was removed as publisher with an announcement at the KH. My husband was removed as a Ministerial Servant for "failing to preside properly over his family" (even though the incident took place at an elder's home). None of the other young ones or their parents were punished publicly as we were. I was stunned, to say the least. This certainly was something that should have been handled privately, and could have been handled just within our family had someone made my husband and I aware of the situation before calling the inquisition. It was the beginning of my exit from the WTS (which still took many years).
Needless to say, I have a very low opinion of JW confession....
I have not yet had the privilege of participating in Catholic confession. But a good friend of mine who converted to Catholicism from an Evangelical Protestant background told me her thoughts on this. The first time she went to confess, before her confirmation in the Catholic Church, she was very nervous about it. She told the Priest that she had always believed that one should only confess to God, and wondered about the role of the Priest in the matter. The Priest told her that of course God is the only one who can forgive our sins. But he said, "Unless I give you some way to show you are really sorry, you may not be able to forgive yourself." My friend was astounded by this answer. Her first thought was, "You mean to tell me that 2,000 years ago the Church had an understanding of Basic Psychology?" The reasonableness of his answer reinforced her confidence that her decision to convert was the right one.
I know that receiving a blessing from the Priest at my first visit to a Catholic Mass was an overwhelming emotional experience. I felt I was experiencing true unconditional love for the very first time -- God's love. For my whole life, I had felt "not good enough" to please God. Now I knew that pleasing God was not a matter of MY being good enough; His grace is "good enough" to make up for my deficits.
I certainly believe that you are correct that JW confession is not about forgiveness, while the confession practiced by other Christian faiths is all about forgiveness and Living in Grace.

The New World Translation is a Mess
by Amazing inthe new world translation (nwt) contains thousands of serious errors.
the following regarding john 1:1, one of the most noteworthy verses to jehovah's witness and ex-jehovah's witnesses alike, provides a case example of how and why the nwt cannot be trusted.
there some few scholars that translate the word was "a god" or "a god" or "divine" but they are in the very low percentages.. in greek john 1:1 says: "en arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos.

Amazing,
As I work in a college, I can verify that adjunct or contract faculty would not be listed in a faculty/staff directory. Or a faculty member who has retired or moved to another college would no longer be listed (as information is updated to be current, not to supply history).
Regarding the use of the name Jehovah in the NWT, the Kingdom Interlinear Translation cites as authority the fact that the Tetragrammaton appears in Hebrew translations of the NT (from a later time period than the existing Greek manuscripts). However, what the Kingdom Interlinear and the WTS fail to mention is that they have NOT inserted the name Jehovah in EVERY place where the Hebrew translations have placed the Tetragrammaton. Why? Could it be because many of these examples would SUPPORT the doctrine that Jesus and Jehovah are the SAME GOD?
To read more about this, go here: (This reference links to actual copies of the Hebrew translations)

Question regarding informing inactive ones of WTS changes
by NanaR inlast monday my middle daughter gave birth to my 5th grandchild.
she delivered by c-section and had complications.
eventually, it became clear that she needed a blood transfusion.

Minister Amos,
You asked:
If he's inactive, then why would he object?
Because whether or not he still believes the JWs have the "truth", he has been thoroughly brainwashed to believe that the side effects of blood transfusion are deadly both physically and spiritually.
Because he still can't admit that he made the wrong decision years ago when he became a Witness over his family's serious objections.
Who knows?

Thanks for the links, Jeff. Perhaps I can arrange for my husband to accidentally happen on them one day.
In the meantime, the information is very helpful to me.

Thanks CoCo. The WTS current stand on blood products is so convoluted and confusing I doubt that many active Witnesses actually understand it. And then in articles like the 2004 Watchtower that is referenced on the site that Jeff linked to, they throw in the admonition to be careful of the consciences of others as well as your own.
It's pretty clear to me that if the Bible really DOES forbid all uses of blood beyond sacrifice, then the WTS is already in violation. And if, as I believe, it DOES NOT forbid medical uses of blood to save lives, they are BLOODGUILTY.
I appreciate your reply.
