I watched the video even before reading the comments about it here. I've got to agree with the majority ... just a tad disrespectful.

Does anyone have the new guidelines for taking the Watchtower Study?
by jwfacts ini just read the following on another discussion board.. the body of elders had received a letter from the society outlining a load of petty, irritating rules on how to conduct the wt study and the elders weren't happy about it.
"pathetic" was the phrase my dad used, and i get the impression he wasn't the only elder who had used that expression.
has anyone heard of this or have a copy of the letter?.

The impression may be given that the additional information from the conductor's research is of equal or greater value."
Jeez! Are these guys for real? Who's to say the speaker even mentions that he researched additional information. Don't they think the Watchtower study's BORING enough as it is? Not even a HINT of seasoning for the "spiritual food" ... yuck!

I can't believe they just sat there...
by troubled mind insaturday i photographed a witness wedding .
during the part about the woman's role the speaker made the comment to the new bride ,"don't try to manipulate your husband .....we know how you women can be ...!".
my jaw noticeably dropped and i uddered " what the heck " as i looked around to look for support from other women there,.

Ahhh yes .. that "sheer zombie" look ... I remember it well. That's what they call the "christian wife's look of submission". Thank heavens my husband isn't JW!!!
At least the couple getting married were over 20 ......a rarity for witness weddings.
A rarity indeed! Maybe it was their second marriage ....

Did you ACTUALLY do this?
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inas part of your "dedication and baptism" did you actually go to jehovah in prayer and "dedicate" your life to him prior to your baptism?
at the time when the elders were reviewing the "questions" with me, i hadn't a clue that i was supposed to do this until one of them asked directly.
i answered in the affirmative anyway ... wanting the incessant questioning to be over as quickly as possible.

Thank you all for your replies. Seems like the majority of you followed the whole "dedication and baptism" thing to the letter.
Soledad, you said:
No I didn't. Does this mean that my baptism is void?
I had the same thought in mind, coupled with the fact that I never "nullified" my baptism as a baby.

As part of your "DEDICATION AND BAPTISM" did you actually go to Jehovah in prayer and "dedicate" your life to him prior to your baptism? I encouraged many of them to do plenty of research on things, and not to live their lives for their parents either, because you slowly kill yourself, if you're not true to self.
You are so, so correct! Just recently my mom was up to her old tricks again, trying to blackmail me into returning to meetings. She asked me to go back because "SHE WANTED ME TO GO BACK". After having the life stifled out of me for sooooo long ... there isn't a chance of a snowball in HELL I'll be going back! Who does she think I stayed in all those years for anywat? Now's my time to enjoy my life and be happy.

My JW visitors returned again. I'm officially an RV.
by kwintestal inthey've actually been back a couple times but i haven't been home.. the first time the came back was the day of the memorial, they dropped off a second invitation, just in case i misplaced the first one, i guess.
my wife was home and talked to them for a couple seconds but they weren't too interested in talking to her.. it had been a little while since the first time i talked to them as i've been busy on saturdays, so this time they came on a thursday afternoon around 3pm and i just happened to be home.
the lady started out by saying how last time she visited we talked about world conditions, which we didn't as you can read in my previous post on the matter, and then went on, reading a scripture, the one that talked of the last days where all these horrible things will happen, like greed and drunkeness, children won't listen to parents and people won't love god.

They again weren't interested in talking to my wife, just left the brochure with her and asked for her to let me know that they were by. It's funny because originally, the very first time they came by, it was my wife who answered the door and talked to them. I wonder why they've given up on her so quickly?
Maybe they're acknowledging your "headship".

What is the JW position on attending weddings in other churches?
by Kudra ini ask because i am planning my lovely wedding with my sweetie... .
and the chapel that we are doing this in has a cross on the altar.
will the dubs see it and hightail it out of there?

Congrats to you and your sweetie!
As a recently married fader myself, I found myself in a similar position. My husband is an "unbeliever". The majority of my JW family I simply never informed them of my plans to get married. I didn't ivite them either. Of course they did eventually find out, but since they were completely blocked out at the planning stage, things went relatively smoothly. My mom was threatened with "loss of privileges" if she attended, but her own PO told her it was a conscience matter. My civil ceremony was held on neutral ground ... and many invited guests simply didn't show up. A couple of them did though. Do you really want them to be present? If you do, then my advice would be to let them know of the setting in advance. That way you'll avoid any unnecessary embarassment on your special day.

Those were rough years....lets just say I could never relate to the demonstrations at the assemblies.
No reason to feel bad at all. Those experiences aren't even real!!!!! Why would they want to interview you? They certainly aren't interested in "truth"
If you are not set up to preform in the system, then you are just there so others can show their forbarence. At a distance I might ad. My only real support during this time came from my non-witness family.
This is such a sad fact of being JW. They claim to have "love" among themselves, but in reality the love they show is only conditional.
Welcome to the board! You'll find a wealth of support and good advice here.

Deodorant soap is my favorite. Love Dial Body Wash as well.
