Obviously they're only out in service to do the "pioneer shuffle" and count time ... who really wants to talk to anyone anyway? If I were you, I'd be elated to be ignored! I wish they would ignore me ...

Why the so formal attire?
by greendawn inhaving visited various churches i have seen that many of their members are casually dressed while worshipping.
the contrast with the jws is great, why do they always have to be formally dressed in their suits and anyone wishing to dress casually is frowned upon?
it goes to show how pharisaic and controlling the cult is.

It goes hand in hand with the JW philosophy of "standing out" and "giving a good witness" ... even though it means dressing inappropriately for the weather like a complete moron.

The Watchtower Educational System
by R.F. inthis is just something i was thinking of earlier and it just had me at awe when i thought about just how much into this i was.. 1. prepare watchtower lesson each week.. a study about the org's version of bible understanding.
this is the biggie.
it is pretty much said that if you don't take as much time as possible to study your wt lesson, you aren't spiritual and don't appreciate spiritual things fully.

And that Daily Text is a crock. Notice that every one of them has a paragraph from the Craptower to explain it.
You said it pal! I'd always be at a total loss trying to figure out how exactly this dumb crap was supposed to give me something "spiritual" to deal with problems during the day.
The whole topic of JW education reminded me of a local radio talk show with 2 Branch elders as guests. The host posed the question as to why J-dubs don't build schools. One of the elders cheekily boasted: "Most persons don't know that Jehovah's Witnesses actually have FIVE schools". He then began to rant about the theocratic school, service meeting etc (lol) The host butted in: "No, no, no, stop copping out of the question ... don't you know what a school is? Do the Jehovah's Witnesses have a school?" The elder sheepishly replied in the negative.

Why Entertainment Got Banned in the Watchtower
by WTWizard inthere is a thread with the resolution that, among other things, effectively banned entertainment, putting it in the same league as porn and drunkenness.
but why would they ban entertainment?
for sure it can't all be dirty!.

It's simply about control, control, control. The rank and file already view the "Governing Body" as God himself, so anything they say must come directly from God. If they succeed in "demonizing" everything, including even some of the most normal human activities, followers have nowhere else to turn but inwards ... to the "Organization". Of course they could always turn outward instead ... but then again ... indoctrination runs deep.

The Spanking Hall?
by WTWizard inchildren in the jehovah's witness religion really have it hard.
to compare, look at other churches.
most of them have sunday school, and this is geared to children that are not able to really comprehend the deeper things.

Perhaps I may be one of the few exceptions to the rule, or maybe it's just a cultural thing. As children we always played at the Hall after meetings (not before though). As regards spanking, my mom always sat me down and explained what was expected of me before we went anywhere .. including the Hall. Wasn't spanked much as a child. The world was such an interesting place to me; by the time I was old enough to realize how boring the meetings were ... I had mastered the art of "zoning out". I would occupy my mind whilst sitting quietly.

What exactly does it mean to be "marked", anyway?
by Amber Rose inwhat are the concequences of being marked?
what qualifies a person to be marked?
who determines whom shall be marked?

OOOh ... I really like this: The congregation elders take the lead in offering help and counsel if someone is walking disorderly. If he does not see the error of his way but continues to be an unwholesome influence, the elders may warn the congregation by means of a talk that makes clear the Biblical view—be it of dating unbelievers, or whatever the improper course is. (1 Corinthians 7:39; 2 Corinthians 6:14) Christians in the congregation who are thus alerted can individually decide to limit any socializing with ones who clearly are pursuing a disorderly course but who are still brothers." I've made sure the elders have nothing to worry about. Made my own decision to limit my socializing with the JW. I've voluntarily removed myself from their "precious" congregation, and wont be "influencing" anyone ... so I'm harmless right? Aint it just great being a member of the "enigmatic class of marked ones"?

How many people did you bring into the "troof"?
by Bob Loblaw ini left when i was in my teenage years, thank god, so i didn't really have the chance to bring anyone under the wts mind control.
how about you?
did you bring anyone in?...and if so, where are they now?
-
Frequent_Fader_Miles
Absolutely none. The few and far in between "studies" I had were just children of JWs in the congregation. The "return visits" on my field service slip were oftentimes made up ... so new recruits were out of the question for me.

Why does the WTS insist everyone sign up for the Ministerial School ?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini never enjoyed giving # 2 talks.
i never enjoyed being at a podium and speaking.
i took drama in high school just to get over the fear of being in front of people and speaking.

I think the reason they require everyone is it helps indoctrinate everyone with the cult propaganda...it's all about gettting the drones to perfect the borg's sales pitch

I'm a fader. Never DA'd or DF'd. I attend no meetings; haven't turned in a field service report in about 7 years.
