"The Sound of Music" not theocratic enough?
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inone of the local congregations is having a farewell "concert" for their co who's leaving.
of course, the book study conductor felt obligated to take control by appointing himself screener of all performances before the event (how shocking!
what's wrong with the song as is?

It is hard to admit that you have been part of a mind controlling cult, but I suspect that these people have been waiting for years to hear that you have been set free. Run, do not walk, to those who truly do love and care for you!

New Here, My Personal Story
by johannahw ini have thought off and on about the jws for years.
my little sister brenda converted about 30 years ago and raised two sons in the truth as she called it.
one boy, mason, is still being raised as a jw (he is 15) and my other nephew, aaron, left the organization on his 18th birthday.

Welcome and enjoy your visits to the website
One thing I did notice about your post was this comment:
I still believe in God but I'm not sure about churches. I kind of feel like this was it. Christianity at its most perfect and I found that even the folks there have warts.
Please, please, please rid yourself of this type of thinking. There are many, many Christians out there who do "walk the walk" and follow the Bible. The Witnesses lie when they say that they are the only ones following the Bible. They are only repeating what they have been told by the GB. The Watchtower is a sham--they give the "illusion" of being a Christian group, but they are not. Do not give up your search. Keep reading your Bible and praying for help and support.
I wish you the best.

For mother's out there...cleaning a son's bedroom!
by restrangled inmy son is twenty years old, a good kid, is doing great in college so i usually keep the door closed to his bedroom so i don't have to look.
today he took out a huge batch of laundry for me to do and the odor from that bedroom had me reeling.. here is my humorous but deadly serious post on the matter:!!!!!.
after vacuuming, enough dust to fill the entire dust bin in the vacuum.. enough change on the floor to keep him in fast food for a week.....(don't ask me for money).

I am a little behind the times here, but this thread has had me laughing my head off. I have a son, he is still young, but it has been a battle to teach him to be clean. At times, I think we may be winning, but the room does have an odour as I walk by, and I keep the door closed as much as possible. He also has a set of drums in there that is often surrounded by unmentionables!
I noted this comment
He's a great boy, never been in trouble, not even one speeding ticket. He keeps his truck spotless
Guess what--keeping his ROOM clean is not a priority or he would do it. His priority is his truck--a more public item than his room. I suggest subscribing him to Flylady.com for some help

Thanks for posting this--it was really interesting to read and I could sense your frustration and dare I say, fear at times for not really being able to speak your mind. In my discussions with Witnesses, I try and show them that other Christian groups are also based on the Bible, just a different (but consistent) interpretation process (Ex: literal in places that the Witnesses are symbolic). So the argument that "This is the truth because it is based on the Bible" doesn't hold water anymore. Perhaps you would enjoy a book called Reasoning from the Scriptures with the Jehovah's Witnesses by Ron Rhodes, which would illustrate this fact. Your parents might even be open to "reasoning through it" with you, if you can think of a way to introduce the book into your discussions. It is not written by an apostate, if that helps. Your comment about how you would know they weren't your real parents was brilliant! I think it also took your Dad aback, because he was so sure he had you on that one. Did you do alot of advance preparation for this conversation or was it totally off the top of your head? I am impressed!

Thanks for the reminder to "bring up my concerns about the news arcticle" with my JW "study partners". I have done it once already with a pioneer/elder and his wife, they just looked at me blankly and had no idea what I was talking about. "We don't handle things that way anymore, how long ago were these abuse cases?" he asked, as if that was significant.

Is the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society an Anti-Christ Organization?
by OUTLAW inthe wbt$ certainly puts themselves as mediator between god and mankind..very unchristian.....in many cases the wbt$ would have us ignore the words of jesus and have us rely on them, for any meaning the bible may have..as in the case of the september 15th 1968 watchtower artical "why are you looking foreward to 1975??
?..the writer tells us "this is no time to be toying with the words of jesus!
"..the end is very near..this was on a thread by another poster a few days ago.....we all know that armageddon did not arrive as predicted by the wbt$ in 1975..but..to work up the 1975 frenzy,jw`s were told to ignore the words of jesus.....is telling people to ignore the words of jesus,anti-christ behavior?.....outlaw

Once when I was talking with a Witness about Jesus, she responded in exasperation: "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! I am so tired of hearing about Jesus! What about JEHOVAH?"
I'll have to admit that I was somewhat scandalized and deeply disturbed and saddened by this blatant "ANTI-CHRISTIAN" sentinment, and I may have even stepped back a bit in case a lightening bolt happened to come down from on high.
I think it is more important to know if Jesus himself would identify them as being Anti-Christian. I think this passage from Matthew 7 indicates the he would:
15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

As humerous as your inabilities are as a PI (the stuff that sticoms are made of), there is something so sad and twisted about the elders inability or unwillingness to accept testimony regarding the husband's behaviour. Methinks that the apostle Paul would have been writing them a letter (ala 1 Corinthians)
BTW, the Mormons, according to Martha Beck in "Leaving the Saints" have ex FBI men on their "strengthening the congregation" division, who are adept at wire tapping, surveillance, etc.
