Susan: It was a terrific party! My biggest memory will be of your mom trying to introduce everyone to everyone else, and then the door would open and she would say "I DON"T BELIEVE IT!" (or some other such comment) as new friends came through the door! It happened several times while I was there! So you know that she must have been having a great time.

Commenting at Meetings: A Way Of Expressing Your Faith???
by R.F. inas we are told by the wt, commenting at the meetings is supposed to be a way of expressing your faith in the congregation.
i hardly felt this today during the wt study today or every meeting for that matter.
it seems more like this is the time when everyone wants to correct others or direct their comments in a way that it's condemnatory to others.

I thought it was quite revealing when the sisters told me about so and so, the new convert, who made comments at the meetings stating what he actually thought, rather than what the material said, because "he didn't know any better, and was still learning".
I guess it is the same as in our book study when we read a paragraph and then there is the question at the bottom of the page, and the answer is so obvious that I just look strangely at the conductor, and say "well, OBVIOUSLY, the answer from the book would be..." Then I make sure that I instigate a REAL discussion of the points being made. We don't usually make it through very many paragraphs at a time...Can you imagine me at a meeting? They would throw me out!

Mouthy's Birthday Party
by truthsearcher inhey guys, i went to the party this afternoon, and mouthy wanted me to post about it and let you know that she is really busy with company right now, but will post again sometime soon.. anyway, mouthy's party was lots of fun--almost everyone there were ex-jws.
i really enjoyed meeting them and talking about their experiences.
they all had their eyes opened in different ways--for some it was a gradual awakening, for others it was a sudden unexpected scripture verse and bingo, the blinders were off!

Hey guys, I went to the party this afternoon, and Mouthy wanted me to post about it and let you know that she is really busy with company right now, but will post again sometime soon.
One lady said for some reason she kept praying to Jehovah not to be brain-washed, and as a result she could never understand the WT articles. Another lady couldn't understand the NWT and so she acquired many other versions that she would read to help her understand. The elders were shocked by her pile of Bibles and commentaries when they found out.
Mouthy was surrounded by love and best wishes and yes there was cake! We all sang and gave presents. Some posters on JWD had sent flowers. It was a lovely time. Almost as much fun as those apostafests look!

Well seriously though, if it was just one or two women, don't you think that they would feel they had to "earn" their spot on the GB and might just end up being a lot harsher than the men? I have seen that kind of reaction before--women going overboard to prove themselves.
What do you think about that?

There is a great story I heard about a guy who gave a talk that was on the edge.
He got up there with Russells and Rutherfords books. He started the talk something to the effect of...
You people are false prophets. You said the end would come in 1914, 1918, 1925 and it never did. I have the books that show you have false prophesied.
Then a pause.
He then went on to say 'Now imagine somebody told that to you at the door, how would you respond?'
The rest of the talk went pretty low key with just some hinting at the truth of the matter. Right at that pause he described the looks on the Elders faces not knowing what was going on. Sounded like a moment to remember. This story I heard on MM Outreach audio clips by the person who actually did the deed. I thought it was brilliant! Anyone remember who it was?

So I finally broke the ice with my fiancee....
by R.F. infor those of you that don't know, i've recently had many doubts about the org and realized that i can't just let them go.
the thing was however, that i was nervous as to how my fiancee would react when i would make my doubts known to her.
so.....i finally talked to her today and it went a little something like this.......... i started with us reading together acts.

I wasn't even sure what I was going to say to her. Actually, I didn't even plan on saying anything to her today but something told me to do it today and it seemed to come out easily.
R.F., despite what others have posted, to me this seems exactly like what Holy Spirit does to help us! I don't know if you have abandoned faith in God and the Bible, (and I hope not) because it sounds like you are well on your way to having a relationship not a religion. I wish you the best in your talks with your love, that you would continue to be given the right words, and that you will continue to grow in your knowledge of what the Bible "really" teaches.
Marcel: that sounds like a really, really tough situation! It seems that your girl is not ready to hear anything negative about the org. How patient are you, can you wait for her to be ready, or do you think you might have to make a choice? This cult sure messes up people's lives (as if love relationships weren't tricky enough already)!

Life's Short. Get A Divorce
by minimus inthat's the sign that was put up by divorce lawyer corri fetman in chicago.
do you agree with that sentiment?
since life's so short, and you're not happy with your mate, just get a divorce?.

Like most advertising it is specifically targeted at an audience and this one appears to be targeted at people who are shallow and do not value relationships to any specific degree;
It appears to be targeted at those who are willing to dump what they have and move on to something "Bigger and Better"...as if the most important thing in a relationship is physical endowment. They don't even show the model's faces--it is a symptom of our sex-obsessed society. And a sad message for young people to see and read. They are the ones that are being bombarded with the media's messages that marriage is a disposable institution.
(But I was wondering if that was abr up there, making some extra money on the side?)

Adjusting well after leaving the dubs
by greendawn inafter you left the jws what were some milestone events that helped you adjust to normal life outside the cult eg meeting a genuinely christian group, or getting a good job with high income, marrying a nice "worldly" person.
after leaving i had a nice girlfriend which helped a lot to ease the tensions and an interesting job where i met a lot of people and had some good social life.
soon the jw world became a distant storm far below and after the internet came out i got the long since needed information on some still outstanding issues and lost all esteem for them as i realised the fds was definitely an elaborate con.

Mouthy:
I know it isn't the same, but think of all the spiritual children you have since you left the WT--all those who came to your group!
I'm praying that God will give you a special blessing today!

Hi Adophius and welcome to JWD
Your experience in Iraq was horrific!
Then I saw this morning that my own parents hold exactly the same belief. So now far from thinking this is querky little religion that can be laughed at and provide amusement for the rest of us, I now see it as completely evil. As a result of this I don't really want anything to do with my parents. If they are that evil, just because they are my own flesh and blood,it doesn't mean I shoould make an exception for them.
If you really want to help your parents to see that they are under the mind control of an evil cult, you might want to consider taking your time and planting seeds, rather than cutting them off. Where else do you think they will be exposed to the type of information and questions that you could ask? Certainly not in the KH!
Just a thought, no doubt others better than I will have other ideas for you.
