  Personally, I think he is a sneaky, duplicitous snake in the grass. Perfect for the GB.

  Mary, do you think that at least some of your list is in spite of Teddy? I wouldn't be surprised if he pushed for the PO change and I am sure that one of the few unanamous votes the GB ever did was in cutting payroll and staff at Bethel.

  But I bet the generation change and blood fractions were over Teddy's almost dead body.

  Losch is his own man, which pisses off Jaracz.

  He thinks American football promotes violence. This is not an urban legend (if you trust me) but Losch mentioned around Super Bowl time one year his opinion during morning worship. He was obliged to apologize two days later after being told that way too many heavies like the NFL.

  He still slips in little shots every now and then. Did so a couple of times while I was there.

  Jaracz is addicted to the Knorr era. I actually don't know where Losch stands on a lot of issues. He makes vague comments all the time about these teachings that need "updating". When he gave the concluding talk at my Gilead grad, he practically read the Revelation Climax book as he reviewed Revelation. (he slipped and fell and gave that talk from a wheel chair)

  My impression based on all that I have seen of Losch is that he is biding his time. In addition to his very distant personality, his practical reading of most of his talks leads me to believe that he really doesn't believe it, but is towing the line till the time is right.

  I have a rule about JW elders, GB or otherwise that has worked pretty well for me. Be careful of the ones who don't show their hand. The blustery ones, at least you know where you stand. Sam Herd, you know where you stand. Losch, Splane, Jackson, they play it pretty close to the vest. They do their work behind the scenes.

  Long answer, but I don't think Losch is a hardliner. I think he is waiting for the right time to push his agenda.

  I would suggest that you would have a limited net gain for foreign countries at the expense of spamming if you included foreign language conversion. In Cameroon, a lot of JW's go to internet cafe's. The download speeds outside of the western world is poor, and the time most JW's would have to do serious research is limited. I would guess this is similar elsewhere in other parts of the 3rd world.

  Just one viewpoint, but I bet it would create more problems then it would solve.

  I have followed this with interest. It appears with the lowering of pioneer hours, book study and PO position that many rumors are correct.

  Here are some interesting things I gleaned lately, and i will include what I can from my time there at Patterson.

  My 3 Gilead instructors were Wally Liverance, Mark Noumair, and Lawerence Bowen. This was 3 years ago. Where are they?

  Gilead is totally changed, now part of the Theocratic Schools Division. No more registrar of Gilead. What happened to them?

  I know Bowen got "bumped" to Brooklyn because he truthfully is the only one who vaguely understands biblical Hebrew and Greek on JW payroll. He frequently wrote articles in the magazines, and learned from Fred Franz's knee. He was also Al Schroeders secretary for many years, who further schooled him on JW bible translation. I don't know what happened to Liverance or Nourmair. They all disapperaed from Gilead grad articles in the WT this year. (if someone knows otherwise, please let me know) The last good rumor I heard about Bowen is that he is now claiming to be of the annointed.

  There are MANY pissed off elders at Patterson and Brooklyn. There are factions of brothers who feel very strongly against the position of the GB on blood, and they worked within the HLC heiarchy. Many in the Service Dept also have varied views of what was going on with pedophiles and other problems. These were alluded to during my stay at Gilead.

  Losch has frequently "gone rouge" and has stated that there are many teachings that need "updating". If there is a power struggle going on between Losch and Jaracz, it wouldn't surprise me.

  This new version of the Governing Body HAS to be going through what any body of elders with new members gone through, an adjustement period and a lot of ego massaging. There is no doubt but that Jaracz has to have been marginalized. I was surprised to find out when 50 year old Geoff Jackson was appointed in 2005, he went straight to the Chairmans Committee.

  There are many long timers in the headquarters staff, including Rusk, Wallen and a couple of others whose name escapes me. They have great influence.

  What does all of this mean? These are a lot of puzzle pieces to me. You could definitely cut the tension with a knife there, as far as I am concerned. Many long time bethelites who knew they were getting the pink slip in the theocratic downsizing of 2006 were clearly pissed off about giving their life to bethel, only to be kicked to the curb.

  I predict that this new GB is going to make a MAJOR mistake if they haven't already, and that something big in the way of a shake down is going to occur.

  There is no doubt that 1914 is all wet. However, JW's have been so disingenuous about the buildup to 1914. This is a little more accurate. It would have been more accurate to say that in 1925, they had another failed prophecy and the Judge switched up again, back to 1914.

  Why does The Watcthower always emphasizes the negative aspects of a subject? That is not a very helpful article, unless they are trying to instruct the JWs to only use Watchtower materials for study.

  In my view, that is the whole thrust of this. Just before I left, the elders got a letter talking about future changes to the Public Talk. (cutting it to 30 minutes) In this letter, it discussed the introduction of outside, scholarly material that a brother may have come up with on his own. From 2006 on, only WT/JW references were to ever be used. The outline was to be strictly followed. You can come up with your own conclusions as to why. I know in my area that a lot of elders took great pride in the use of non JW references in their talks. Of course, non sanctioned study groups are only negative to the GB authority structure. Those who have left would argue that getting together and discussing bible passages, bible scholarship and the like are quite positive for the individual. Of course, individuality is also negative to the GB authority structure. They are so cynical in what they do, it makes me ill.

  A McWitness to me is:

  A 10 hour a month publisher who sometimes reads his answer directly out of the WT, auxilliary pioneers once a year, cleans the KH when scheduled, but secretly doesn't believe a lot of it. They sometimes forget to wear their Convention badges. He/She probably watches the occasional R rated movie, and might engage in non GB approved intimacies within their marriage.

  Edited to add: And 4 of their 10 counted hours of field activity is spent at McDonalds.
