Why get "personal" when discussing a topic?

trading insults happens among kids all the time.. intellectual development hasn't progressed to the point where they can present contrary ideas and opinions with persuasive appeal to reasons, facts and logic.. "i know you are; but what am i?".

"your momma's so fat....".

so, they fall back on childish mocking, provocation and personal attack.. as we grow older and have more education and sophistication our minds should mature---or so you'd think!.

There are two forms of ignorant retorts that bear on the matter

Satire/Mocking

Shit stirring

I feel I've been guilty on occasion of passive aggressive shit stirring if I don't like a poster. Instead of trusting that an intelligent reader can decipher the crap, I have been baited into mocking someone who disagrees with me, and visa-versa.

On the other hand, sometimes, satire is a great release, and it is generally aimed at no one, except for the perpetually sensitive. ;)

In short, maturity matters the most. Most experienced Internet readers know that there will be idiotic comments and posters in occasion. Generally speaking, after a small bit of satiric fire, they are usually ignored.

Ignoring those who disagree with you is sometimes a more mature position than a fight.

How Do You Think The Watchtower IT Department Is Responding To The Anonymous Threat?

so anonymous has declared its intentions to utterly destroy the watchtower society.

this will likely include attacking the official websites and trying to obtain the database of 23,000+ pedophiles in the organization.. i have never served at bethel so i would appreciate the input of those who have.

do you think they are taking this threat seriously?.

It's Time to Pull the Plug on the Watchtower Cult: Are YOU Willing To Do YOUR Part?

as you know, very big things are happening in regards to the watchtower on a weekly and even daily basis.

they have stepped up their hatred towards those who have left, strengthened their stranglehold on those still stuck in and continued with their harmful policies that damage families, protect pedophiles and sacrifice children.

Since history is a great teacher, I'd like to know the last cult that got shut down that wasn't run out of a barn.

No offense, but my view is to act in the following order:

Leave (via disfellowshipping or resigning)
Heal. Get help if you need it. Don't be self destructive
Learn about yourself. Discover who you really are, and what makes you happy.
Dont apologize for your happiness. Decide to be happy in your own skin and pursue it.
Understand and accept the fact that there will always be people who will join cults, and that there will always be people who will start and maintain them.
Understand that getting rid of one cult will still leave hundreds of others. Therefore.....
Be a light. Let your life leave the footprints for others to find.

Such a great lesson from the book Moby Dick: don't chase what bit you. Understand the shark will bite others. Don't waste your life trying to bring down what gravity will eventually. Speak up when appropriate, be truthful and honest. But honestly, there is no substitute for a life well lived. Your being really happy is the one thing the leadership of JWs can't fight against.

Forget Sandusky for a moment. JW's can get pre-teens baptized in a life long commitment for their religious views. Penn State can offer you a 4 year scholarship (based on how fast you can run, how high you can jump, how far you can throw, how much can you bench?) Sound good?

What about us?

Penn State was "Win with honor?"

JW's were "You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth!" (as long as you follow us all the way. Kids! You are up front! Because it is easier to eff you from behind....)

I know. That is harsh. I apologize. But consider this one common thread.

Power unchecked will always exploit the vulnerable

This changes little. Sadly. Right now, there are kids whose lives are being ruined, and other kids who will become adults, insulated, and have no idea what this world is really about.

What is this "world" really about? Money and power, in roughly that order.

Don't forget that folks. Learn from history if you don't want to be a victim of it.

I write this because I can't change the world, and I don't want to. I am so g*d d*mn lucky that I am where I am, that I feel guilty even saying that in all honesty, nothing has changed.

But if we KNOW, then we can do something.

JW's are not going away. Neither is Penn State.

What keeps me going is pretty damn simple. Joe Paterno, like Ted Jaracz, went to his grave, and likely talked themselves both into a happy death for the "good" they did.

But they knew that there was a big stinkin skunk in their closets. And so they also died with the realization that they weren't saints, martyrs, or whatever. They were flawed white men that at the end of the day, gave in to what was expediant to them, regardless of the lives that were run over by the Mack Truck ego's they drove.

I would rather go down speaking truth to power. I would rather go down knowing that I took a stand. I know for sure, that when I go, I will be at peace for leaving and speaking out against a cult that protects child molesters and pedophiles. I will be at peace because I spoke out. And that at the end, my entire life will be credible, even if CNN, Facebook. or jw.org has no clue.

But by all means, speak up when you see evil. Know that the odds are against you until your death, when your final days will be fulfilled for a life well spent.

In other words, don't be a half good person. Either be all good, or all sell out, so we can know who you are. Joe Paterno. Sell out. Ted Jaracz? Sell out.

Who are you?

In the end, these two men were brothers, and they had no idea the evil they enabled. Or worse, they did. How sad...........

Those who WERE or ARE Elders (Re: Molestation Coverup)

i'd like to hear from those who are currently elders or were formerly elders on your honest feelings about the charges brought against the society and their general policy in handling these matters.

do you think that the society handles child abuse accusations fairly?

or, do you think their policy is abusive?

Just to be on the record, my view is that the Legal Dept runs the whole thing on pedophiles, at the behest of the GB.

I was an elder and a Gilead grad. Got to spend a decent amount of time w eService Dept elders. All claims or anything hinting of pedophile/ sexual abuse gets directed immediately to Legal. From there, a LEGAL (read: CYA) plan is adopted.

FYI, I haven't changed my view at all since I left. I DFd a few, got to read all the letters and see first hand what the BORG is all about in these cases. it's all about them. They don't care about preventing pedophilia. They only care about dodging their ever apparent culpability over it.

Why Doesn't the Governing Body Follow the Examples of the "Bible Writers"?

Hello all. I wrote this some years ago, and I think this to me still rings true. You can't be the "true" religion if you don't own up to your mistakes. JWs have never done this. Or I should say, the GB.

Not one "I'm sorry" to Candace Conti, Barbara Anderson, etc. No humility to see here. Nothing but a cult that loves their money more than the victims of their Ostrich like leadership.

Child abuse is not something the GB understands, or cares to.

as a former elder who dealt with more than a few pedophiles, i want to express how happy i am for this victory.. for sure, it has to be viewed as a symbolic victory, and it in no way makes up for the pain of the tens of thousands of victims that have lost so much.. but nothing will change until it is exposed.

additionally, this kicks the gb where it hurts the most, in their over stuffed wallets.

while i still maintain that this will not in any way "bring down" this cult, it is my hope that the publicity will wake up the younger members, esp younger elders, and that the growth of this cult will stop.

To clarify, it is symbolic because this will be appealed for years. But more important, this is the first case the WTBTS has ever lost, if memory serves.
