JW Governing Body more like the Sanhedrin
by yadda yadda 2 inthought this was interesting from a website i happened upon:.
* as has been pointed out many times on this site, there was no governing body among the early christians.
today's governing body of jehovah's witnesses is more closely modeled on the jewish sanhedrin.

Yep, Witnesses would take it as a compliment, too. They will tell you that they love the structure of being told what to do by a system of rules and policies. It has always been one of their ways of measuring their spirituality.

Watchtower Comments now back online
by Dogpatch inhttp://www.watchtowercomments.com/.
no word from v, but i'll keep his site alive, no worries.. with all the many changes with the freeminds.org site, somehow the dns got lost on an older host that expired, and i didn't notice.
bad dogpatch!.

I did the voiceovers for V for all of the videos, and I haven't heard from him/her either. I sure hope everything is ok.

Rick just sent out a mass e-mail about another conference call earlier in the week, so I'm sure he's ok. The Six Screens site had a lot of photo-copied literature that might have been considered illegal under copyright laws.
Either way, that site kinda gave me the creeps. I think Rick's way of going about the whole thing seemed like a vendetta more than a sincere desire to help people. -

An anology to explain witness thinking.
by JeffT inthink of a computer, the hardware is fine, but somebody changed all of the programming so that 2+2=5.
you go into your spreadsheet and everything looks odd.
you check it using the calculator function and get the same answers.

Ironically, a Witness wouldn't even comprehend what you just posted.

Have you ever noticed that JWs do things half-assed?
by sacolton ini'm serious.
every jw i know doesn't take any pride in his work or hobbies.
always a rush job (half-assed).. anyone notice this?.

Kinda sounds like a broad generalization, but I kinda see what you're talking about. I know many JW's that are very detailed and thorough with their work. But I ALWAYS remember hearing people, both in person and from the stage, counsel young ones to make sure that they find a profession where they get the most money for doing the least amount of work. This, of course, was encouraged so that they would have more time for pioneering and such.

the seventy year thing
by logic ini hate to keep bringing it up but i would to give the jws something to think about.
if the isrealites had done as god had told them, to serve babylon voluntairly as they had done in the beginning, then when would the seventy years of so called total devastation have began.
god said that only if they did not serve babylon that they would be destroyed.

Everytime you bring it up to any Witness (that's competent enough to even discuss it in the first place), they always just say, "Well it's IMPLIED that the 70 years referred to exile." Kinda the same way the Watchtower uses the words "evidently" and "apparantly". LOL

JW splinter groups..
by fb130 ini was just wondering.
has the idea ever been brought up of a group breaking away from wts & forming some sort of reformed jw church that isn't so controlling.
like lurther & the catholic church.

Once you consider that Jehovah's Witnesses ARE a breakaway group from the Bible Students, and that the Bible Students ARE a breakaway group from the Second Adventists.......it seems pretty silly.
