Faulty in more ways than one... But I do wish that we could have personal conversations like that with God. Maybe the better question is, "why can't we?"

This blew my mind...
by deaconbluez ini was thinking about how messed up being one of jehovah's witnesses makes you, and then i realized why.
i was a witness until i was 25, so about 3 or 4 years ago.
that means until i was 25 years old, all i read was apostate literature.

"End of the Gentile Times" Meaning Was Changed...
by deaconbluez ina good point that captives of a concept by don cameron makes is that during russell's time, the "end of the gentile times" which would take place in 1914 was to signify the complete end of world government's rule.
after that came and went, in order to not have to admit that they were falsely prophecying, they changed the teaching to mean that it was the end of their "uninterrupted rule".
therefore, they had to conclude that in 1914 an invisible jesus christ who was invisibly present as he was being invisibly enthroned to begin his invisible rule rom the invisible heavens.. .

The Witnesses are very good at molding doctrine to fit their pre-concieved idea of what the "truth" is. -

That same family will discuss in their next book study how the very people that built them the home will be destroyed at Armageddon because they aren't part of "Jehovah's Organization".

A question for lurking Witnesses.....
by lavendar inif the wts is based on the bible (as they claim), then why can't a person come into "the truth" just by reading the bible?
also, if the wts really does have "the truth", then why does it keep changing it?
i didn't think truth could change!

Yeah you guys are right. Every little bit helps. I just think that a lot of it is up to them to have an objective attitude and to hold the organization to the same standards that they hold the "wicked world" to.

This makes me think of the November, 2005 Our Kingdom Ministry where Witnesses were instructed to avoid giving to Hurricane Katrina relief charities, but instead, give to the worldwide work. The argument was that giving to the charities wouldn't help the "brothers" first, while giving to the worldwide work would. What they didn't mention is that the worldwide work is one big fund that is used for everything from building new Kingdom Halls to fixing an elevator at Brooklyn. By treating the worldwide work as some kind of abstract fund, (making it a common noun, uncapitalized letters), they escape liability from the IRS or others that might question their position on giving to charities.

It's a nice approach, but honestly, not worth the effort. Witnesses are programmed to block out the logic of these questions. The way their own history is presented to individual members is done so in a way to remove the significance of these things. These poor souls need our prayers and support, but unfortunately, Satan has "blinded their minds". - 2 Cor. 4:4

Hey guys, it has been accepted for a while now that the bones were put there by William Hewson. He taught an anatomy school at the back of the house. He even lived there/roomed with Franklin for a few years.

Logic and the fallacy of 1914
by neverendingjourney inlogic dictates that to prove a conclusion you must break it down into its individual parts and prove each individual element.. for instance, i can prove that 2+2=4.
i can also prove that 4 - 1 = 3 and that 3+10= 13. therefore, i can definitely prove my conclusion that that 2+2-1+10=13.. however, i would be unable to prove that 2+z-1+10=13.
because one of the elements, z-1, is unverifiable.

"2+z-1+10=13"
This representation is correct, except the clarification must be made that "13" is what you are trying to solve for.
That's where the confusion is coming from. The point was that "13" is not known yet! That's what he was implying. The Watchtower puts their 1914 conclusion out there first, and then tries to make these non-existent elements prove what is not there.
