by DullBookworm ini have not been a sister for the past 19 years, i asked to be da'd as i had started smoking aged 12 and at 19 no longer wanted people to think badly of the jw's over my conduct.. for 19 years my father, an elder, has tried his damndest to bring me back.
he kept contact sometimes more, sometimes less, always under the threat to stop the contact alltogether.
at one point he managed to not speak to me for several months.

Is it your brother or your dad with a non-believing wife? I understand it is your sister-in-law? I hope she is Internet savy to be informed about the facts about JW history and manipulations. Of course, you have to be careful what you say to her about JW stuff, because she won't understand the confidentially you would need.
The WT has 'always' had a stance of not talking to relatives who were previously active JWs, that were DF'd. But now-a-days, there is getting to be a higher percentage of those leaving with voice/personal opinion, and the WTS does not have the percentage influx of new members by comparison. So the situation is very threatening to the GB and therefore the meetings, at the Kingdom Hall, assemblies, and circuit overseers are stressing shunning family members more frequently. The GB hate it that family members have more love for their family versus the GB.

JW's at my inlaw's door yesterday
by Hillary inhere in the northeast it is freezing.
a father and son team brought over the outside garbage cans from the end of the driveway and offered to salt my inlaws' driveway.
my f-i-l was very impressed and said they're very nice people.

That was nice,, but that does not mean you owe the rest of your life to their religion,,which is their primary ulterior motive.

Can we excuse the R&F for ever ?
by Phizzy ingenerally i go along with it when posters express pity and sympathy for the r&f jw's.
i feel this way toward them too, to a degree.. but where do we draw the line ?
we know that jw's do not have a conscience of their own really, they are told how to think and act, and they have to obey.. just as those living in nazi germany were told how to think and act, and had to obey.. but, " i was just following orders " was not taken as a valid defense at nuremburg.. as the wt descends in to becoming more and more like north korea in its do not question, simply obey !

I feel sorry for most JWs - to varying degrees. Certainly, 100% for the youth, they had no choice ever in this. Some converts, as in the past, there wasn't much independent research material about the WT organization and history, before Internet, felt sorry for them to some degree. Any adults going in now-a-days without researching through Internet, are individuals who ignore probably 'knowledge' in general.
But decade after decade, many don't find a need to fully re-evaluate things. Life happens, critical things, that should shake us to the core. Yet, too many remain. With time, many have had to admit they are as imperfect as non-JWs, but their "Truth", their 'PROGRAM,' they stand by, no matter. Decade by decade my percentage of empathy declines. Many become comfortable with a degree of double life, double standards. Some problems, and issues perplex them to a degree, but it is too scarey to pursue that for long.
I feel sorry for their old people only to a degree, as aging can be difficult for all, in common issues of it for all. I don't want to sound judgemental of these aging as I too, am at the brink of old age. Many have made their old age harder if they have cut off family and given too much to the WT. But these old have ignored a lot and chose to make or keep their life and options small, and yet judgmental.

A JW sitcom?
by Island Man inhas anyone ever thought of creating a jw sitcom?
i mean, there's enough humor and drama in jw culture to keep audiences entertained for multiple seasons.
we have judicial committees, c.o.

This former JW, famous comedian, and his brothers speak of the humor of their mother, non-JW,, helping them to see the reality of JW life.

The numbers don't lie...or do they?
by stillin inat a recent ca, the co was commending the r&f about mid-week meeting attendance.
he said that it was up 4% since he first began working in our circuit.
i was listening as some were patting each other on their backs about that at last nights meeting and it occurred to me that there were many empty seats.
-
Gayle
just means CO was able to 'guilt' a couple to come while he was there, then after he left that week ,, they will continue to skip the meeting.
The COs don't figure out how 'relieved' everyone is when he leaves.

Absolutely, Knorr & F. Franz created much control!!! Not to excuse Rutherford but . . Knorr and Franz could hide behind the "curtain" more, to create their seeming more mysterious in the minds of their followers. But now, with media and Internet, the GB are having to get more 'public.' Talks are more easily recorded and taped to be sent everywhere. This GB are stuck but playing it all they can, but are seeming to enjoy it.
Worst JW behaviors were started and enforced by these two. Their cohorts only went along with them (as well as the rest of the org)
'Official' Disfellowshipping started in the 50s. This "DF" thing gave them all power. (Although there were some individuals cases before, as Rutherford could/would ). From there, blood transfusions became DF offense (1961). Also, from there became the damn 2-witness rule, protecting child molestors. Families weren't suppose to associate with DF family then either (though some did anyway secretly, as many do even now).
In those times (60s), became strong influence for no college. (it lightened up for awhile (after Knorr & Fred died) and came back as strong as ever).
They enforced the common term, 'organization' to become "ORGANIZATION." - their god.

Pioneer Encouragement - "You can sit in the back room"
by 4thgen inlast night one of the pioneers stopped by on her way home from the pioneer meeting.
she has always been very kind and i believe she is acted out of concern, however her visit was unsettling.
she mentioned that all the pioneers were counseled to invite everyone they know inactive or those who has had life has got them down to come to (a special?

“Terrific, very happy.”
Love this response,,they truly don't know how to respond to 'happiness.' Sometimes it even makes them angry.
Anyway, their backroom is for the 'naughty.' Don't want to dress up? It's like you're second rate, so "sit in the back of the bus."

I am just not sure that the GB really understands how stressful it is to serve as an elder and hold down a full time job and handle everything else, especially if an elder is a family man.
Please be assured the GB do not understand, and more, do not care to understand. Many elders are 'caving,' in exhaustion. Many of those that don't, then, many of their families are being effected too, with long-term negative side effects, on into another 'generation.'
If 'elders' cannot speak up, then, who can or will?
It is an organization tiring out.
