i was baptized in 1988 and was encouraged to stop college after 2 years.
I was really discouraged by the "friends" from attending college. My non-JW parents were very upset with my decision to stop school after 2 years and really became upset when an elder's son attended college on a scholarship while I struggled financially. They were elated when I decided to become a nurse. While pursuing my BSN, my latent doubts resufaced and I knew I could no longer remain a JW.

I was baptized in 1988 and was encouraged to stop college after 2 years. I returned to school in 1994. I was inactive for 2 months, returned to the organization but was never the same because of persistent doubts.

if so, the following will make perfect sense to you.
There is no such thing as "mixed race" in the US. Mr. Obama is considered Black or "Mixed" since he had 1 White parent and 1 Black parent. As mrsjones5 stated, most African-Americans in the US are descendants of African slaves and are racially mixed. The culture in the US is such that a racially mixed person of African descent is considered Black or African-American.
I have heard no African American voice a belief that Mr. Obama's presidncy will make a radical change in his/her life. His presidency offers a hope for change; nothing more. Hope. If there's one lesson learned from history, it's that the African-American community has the power to effect change for themselves.
what ingredients go into making someone become a witness?
The person studying to become a JW would not know the bible. Any person who is a real bible student would not not fall for WTS lies.

where in the bible do jws find the format for how the memorial should be celebrated by the "other sheep?
" i just don't see anywhere in the bible where it says that those not partaking should pass bread and wine.
I take communion now. All Christians should take communion.
I do believe there's no need for the "other sheep" to be in attendance. It's like we denied Jesus Christ every time we attended the Memorial.
what are your new year's day traditions and/or food?
we do roast pork, collard greens and black eyed peas.
i may add home made dumplings and sour kraut and cabbage with caraway seeds for our czechoslovakian side.. parades and football of course, instead of field service (circus)..

growing up as a jw i never really believed in god.
i thought everyone else didn't really believe either.
when some sort of religious activity or speak was going on i was just pretending and i thought everyone else was pretending too.
I think most JWs don't know what they actually believe. They are brainwashed and their beliefs are whatever the WTS says to believe. This is why many ex-JWs reject God.

it's the inherent weakness of belief that comes from outside of a person.
Beliefs are internal and external. We learn values from our families, cultures and communities. Religion teaches values and a set of beliefs. High control groups and cults dictate what one is supposed to believe and put faith in. The excel in guilt and emotional abuse. When one discovers the hypocrisy and emptiness found in such groups, one feels betrayed and is often repulsed. It is important to be comfortable with ourselves without denigrating others who do not share our beliefs. It does not make a difference what one's beliefs are, the importance of showing love to one's neighbor, demonstrating hospitality and valuing truth are universal regardless of one's culture. We all know the people we wish to be and strive to be that person. I am not the ideal person I strive to be but I'm lovable and likable.
tonight my wife and i attended a christmas play held at a local church.
it was really cute, 4-8 year olds recreating the whole christ story, when suddenly this totally empty feeling hit me like a punch to the face.
i realized how much we missed out with our own two kids by raising them as jws.
Young adults are very idealistic. I was baptized at 21. I did not know the bible before JWs and witnessed hypocrisy in my childhood church. I think I was seduced by the fantasy and living forever on a paradise earth. The love bombing was seductive also. Thankfully, I had great parents. I worked many holidays and have since discovered my daughter celebrated holidays with my parents. My parents also persuaded me to allow my daughter to swim, run track, and take music lessons. She also attended camp each summer. I apologized for making her miss out on holiday celebrations, but she said she's glad I wasn't too strict because that's why there so much immorality among the JW young people. She received presents from the family and I took her shopping each November. Her regret is not knowing the Christmas songs.

I could never sing those songs without the songbook. On the other hand, I remembered the lyrics of every Christmas and gospel song I'd sang growing up.
