great topic!
our Bible trained conscience...
lot of gems, the best one are those about the abundant evidence, and the experts.
some of the words that i always look out for in watchtower literature are the following:.
without doubt...... evidently...... obviously....... we can conclude from this......... can you think of more?.
a lot has to be learnt from blondie's watchtower studies and some of it is that when the wt society has no evidence for a supposition it plants one of these phrases that suggest stupidity on the part of the reader if he/she doesn't agree with what idea the watchtower society has come up with!.

with all of the changes regarding the 1935 closing of the heavenly calling that jw's taught for over 70 years what will be the next thing to go in their doctrinal system.
will they one day say"we were wrong the earth is going to burn up and all christians will go to heaven".
russell was right after all and yes the "great crowd" will indeed go to heaven.nothing suprises me anymore with the jw's.
it is a key doctrine, so no way it will ever be abandoned.
btw years ago I was calling on a catholic man who also believed in paradise earth. He said that catholic church teaches immortal soul after we die and eventually resurrection on paradise earth.

I"gnorance is Bliss", and all that
I agree, I was much happier when I was ignorant, believing Jerusalem was destroyed in 607, lions will eat straw, the flood was global, etc... Muslims are just as happy waiting for the virgins in paradise. Ignorance is truly bliss.
why i stopped apologising for the watchtower society - part 1. .
in response to requests for information on why i stopped being an apologist for the organisation, i have decided to write the following article.
what is written is not meant to attack the beliefs of jws, but rather to show why i personally came to the conclusion that i could no longer support the organisation.
Hi Gumb,
welcome back (I am new around here and in reading your first post in this thread, that I only later realised was started a few years back, I could identify some of the feelings that I am presently experiencing). I look forward to reading some more about your life experience.
many of you were probably the type to question everything or analyze everything, yet .
just accept whatever the wts says.
you broke out of that.
All that, but I try to talk to her about 607 BCE or "This Generation" and 1975, other subjects
concerning the WTS, and she just shuts down. She sometimes disagrees with the general
directions from the WTS concerning education or setting career goals, but she says they have
a good reason for saying it that way. Several times, she asked me why I didn't comment at
the WT study, and I say that I didn't agree with the point being discussed. She just stops the
conversation.
it sounds so familiar....
a lot of good posts. I am with drew about fearing change. My wife has some doubts, I am positive but the defensive reaction is to try and discard them (I was doing the same in the past) or find a justification (the abused saying: we must be patient and rely on Jehovah).
for me, it was the un debacle.
their association and weak retreat was priceless.
after that, silentlambs ranks right up there.. of course, if it were not for ray franz, many of us would've never even thought about leaving!.
chronology, everything falls apart without 607/1914.
watch out for the questions from readers in the may 1st 2007 watchtower.
"when does the calling of christians to a heavenly hope cease?
" it's a good'un.. included are the statements:.
just got the mag. Too early to hear any comments. I pointed out to someone that we will have to change the revelation book again. He had the reaction I would expect (the same way I would have reacted a few years ago), well summarised by the last few posts.
(1 peter 3:7) you husbands, continue dwelling in like manner with them according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one, since you are also heirs with them of the undeserved favor of life, in order for your prayers not to be hindered.. .
*** w06 5/15 p. 32 the value of "a weaker vessel" ***.
13 husbands, show self-sacrificing love ***.
thanks blondie!
In my experience, it was NOT tolerated.
Fortunately I have not been confronted with cases of physical abuse. I think psychological abuse is more widespread (and more difficult to prove). In most cases men get away with it quite easily.
When it comes to marital problems (I am not talking about abuse), I learnt that it is better to stay away (this is not my wish but the conclusion after several negative experiences). I have met couples that came to the elders when
a) they have already decided what to do and just wish to have some "moral" support for their decision (separation / divorce)
b) look for counsel they will not listen to
Whatever you say, if things go wrong (and in most cases they will go wrong) at least they will have someone else to blame (the elders) for their failure.
school manual is quite useful and I learnt a lot from it. You could get the same knowledge elsewhere but with JW I also did a lot of practice on the platform, which helped me in other areas (work) as well.
I learnt a lot from some of the PT I have given (always tried to pick practical themes and not doctrinal ones).
i was just starting to think, they removed religion from schools and public areas and jobs.
whats next?
the removal of everyone who believes in god or some high power?
Is religion a problem or a threat? Not IMO but fundamentalism is.
Would a war on religion eliminate fundamentalism and fanatiscism? Certainly not (war is never a solution), it may even foster more fundamentalism. Knowledge and education are the only weapons against religious fanatiscism.
