Is WTS chronology flawed?

historians agree that jerusalem was invaded by babylon in 586/587bce.

the wts discredits most historical records and says that jerusalem was invaded in 607bce.

the wts start with 587 and add the 70 years that jerusalem lay desolate to obtain the 607 date.. if jerusalem was invaded in 587 then it lay desolate for only 50 years (587-537=50).

I started a search like yours quite a while ago and contacted scholars and got plenty of books. I tried to make it independently so as not to have biased opinions. You quickly understand why the WTBTS basically avoids mentioning secular sources and, in recent publications, does not name the documents in favour of 587 (which they did in the appendix of Let Your Kingdom come). The evidence is so massive that anyone without prejudice cannot but conclude that 607 could not possibly be the year of Jerusalem's destruction.

And if Liverpool play like they did last night I don't reckon their chances are much better in the final either!

I think liverpool played a great game last night. Milan are favourites in the final (and they will be thirsty for revenge), but I hope liverpool will make it again. Rafa is great!

thanks blondie. I am with open mind on paragraph 16, drove me crazy for the 2nd time in a couple of weeks. the sad thing (and I'll never stress it enough) is that I used to believe it myself too

Hard decisions of life....

hey all, here is a dillema that i am facing: .

i have been trying to figure out whether i feel that this religion is true enough for me to remain in it.

we must admit that there are some good things in the jw religion.

I am sure it would be. I also know that if you decide to remain a JW chances of meeting someone that you believe matches you perfectly are not so high so I can understand that you do not want someone else to snag her.

On the other hand, I think it is important that you first sort out what you want to do with religion. When I got married I was sure I would never leave the "truth". I am of a totally different opinion now, while my wife still believes JW's have the truth. I am not the only one on this board in a similar situation. Believe me, it is not nice.

i just sent this letter to a jw who came knocking on my door talking to me about 1914. i doubt it does him much good since he will probably not read it.

first, you assume that when christ spoke of the the times of the gentiles he was referring to a period of time which began when jerusalem was destroyed by babylon and would end with his enthronement in heaven.

You could have added that no other prophecy in Daniel had two fulfillments (at least not for the WTBTS). funny, no?

It will be interesting to see with what he comes back, particularly with regard to 587 vs 607. There is plenty of evidence about 587 that you'll put him in a corner.

Any current Good Standing JW, posting here?

i was wondering if there are any current regular posters here that are still active , but are mentally inactive and don't believe all the bull anymore, and are just going through the motions to keep their life with friends and family together.. i realize this might be a posting that will probably get 0 replies, but.......

I just wonder if there is anyone from Bethel on here - or if their internet access is too closely monitored?

I suppose they block access to certain sites. Monitoring is illegal in some countries (I guess most). Not that I doubt they would do it, but it could be costly. I am aware of cases of employees that got laid off for looking at porn sites, went into court and won.

If any bethelites are posting I would be surprised if they would say it openly that they are bethelites.

1933 Letter from JW's to Hitler and Nazi Party

i was watching one of the extras on the knocking dvd and a woman commentator talked about a scandalous letter from the jw's to hitler and the nazi party in 1933. does anyone know where i can read this letter at?.

I WONDER WHAT WT WOULD DO IF COPIES OF THIS LETTER WERE DISTRIBUTED IN A PUBLIC PLACE OR EVEN DOOR-DOOR.
IF WT DOESN'T SUE, IT MUST BE TRUE.

I wonder if anyone has written to the WTBS about it. It would be interesting to read their reply.

Is being a Jehovahs Witness sometimes a good thing..............

to explain this thread i need to tell a sad and horrific story about someone that was once a friend...............for the sake of privacy i will refer to her as carol.. i met carol in the about 1990. i was not a jw (had left when i was 16 and unbaptised).

i was suffering with panic attacks, i think for many reasons but mainly because i had recently lost my dad and took it very hard.

i lived with my then boyfriend, who later became my husband in a town in south yorkshire.

I agree with you about the jws lack of having a genuine support system to help those who get into these type of situations.

I agree and it is one of the things that made me initially question the organisation (seeing a DF person, left by her non-JW husband, coming to the hall with 3 small kids, one disabled, all by herself without any help).

Would she have been better staying a misled JW?

my opinion is yes.

I used to study with a heroin addict and put myself heavily into trying to help him. After some years I gave up hope as he slowly made a few step forward and then fell back again into the habit. I was amazed at how vulnerable these people are (I did not ask many questions about his upbringing but I do not think he was abused), I was also amazed at how, when we were going around together, so many people would approach him either to ask or offer drugs, so temptation was always at hand.

A few years passed and he started studying with another JW. Eventually he got baptised and is now a happy misled JW. Would find out the truth about the truth help him? No. Chances are that he would go back into drugs. Most of his friends (to many of whom I did speak when I was studying with him) are now dead and buried. The few that survived are still into heroin.
