I will agree that some of the ugliest men I know have some of the highest standards in potential partners.
I remember working with this one guy and a girl walked by. In my eye I thought she was quite attractive and commented on it. He looks around and says:
"She needs to lose weight, look at the size of her thighs."
My jaw dropped. She was by all counts an average build. Average being fit. But she wasn't deathly skinny like a super model so he took exception.
I looked at him, receding hair line, with the rest of it pulled back in a twisted messy ponytail. Ears the size of satellite dishes and a deathly pale complexion. Thought to myself "wow, you're one to talk"
In all the time I worked with him, he never had a girlfriend, but was always hitting on women that so far out of his league.
Sadly that attitude is far from uncommon in my experience.

Days that Go From Bad to Downright Embarassing
by Crumpet inso far this monday has been one nightmare after another.. it began with discovering that overnight my computer has wiped my harddrive - everything gone - photos, msn conversations, university assignments, diaries, letters, work docs, movies, videos, unmentionables.

It sounds like your bra is the source of all your problems. Have you considered that the bra is in fact demonized?
Surely if you rid yourself of such an evil contraption Jehovah will bless your efforts.
PS. If you follow this sagely advice, please send pics. -

by indahsempurna indoes anyone else find it terrible that the society is charging interest for congregations to build kingdom halls????
why the hell are people putting money in the "special" box marked kingdom hall fund??

I remember a bit more recently, in my father's congregation they got a quote from the WTS for their new hall. One of the elders got a cheaper quote from a bank.
There was alot of grumbling and the WTS matched the lower rate. -

Could you believers make supplication for us?
I tried to exert myself vigorously as the bible says, but ended up just farting.
Don't get me wrong, it was a good fart and all, but far from divine.
And to Vinny, I noticed you skipped over my posting on the Creationist Lottery. Is that your red corvette that you can't answer?
Here's the link again:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/132394/1.ashx
Now to address your "Red Corvette".
This is inherently flawed. The creation time of a Corvette vehicle is a couple of days by mans hands. Left out in the open, it will corrode and eventually turn to rust within about 70-100 years.
It has no way to reproduce itself or to weather the ages.
You wish to put that up against the universe. The universe is largely resilient and the last theory pegs it at 11.2 - 20 billion years.
Here's the visual:
Evolution's time frame:
11,200,000,000 - 20,000,000,000 years and counting
Vinny's Corvette:
70-100 years max.
How can something evolve when it only has a finite life span without the ability to reproduce? You show remarkable ignorance into the details of evolution. Is your only education based on the bible? Personally, I consider myself equally versed in both the bible and science and feel competent to argue based on it. I enjoy a spirited argument, but only to those that have examined each side of the issue then picked which side they wish to argue. If you only examine one side and accept that as fact, then you might be a Jehovah's Witness. :)
You will see no personal attacks here, so I would appreciate the same tact. Why do you feel the red corvette illustration is viable when it shows no basis of evolving?
If you persist on pounding on that illustration then I offer you an additional challenge. Sitting in the parking lot below me is a black corvette. It's still in pretty good shape, older body style. Would you please prove to me that it was in fact built in a factory and didn't in fact evolve and show up in a field?
Thanks. -

This used to bother me, even when I was a loyal witness.
I also see it has gone down. When my congregation was looking to build a new hall they announced that the society was willing to loan us the money at 1-2% above prime. It was explained that the extra 1-2% (sorry I was quite young when this was announced, I don't remember exactly the percentage) was as an admin fee and to help other halls in building.
The brother announced this at the meeting and then asked for questions. For the first time there was questions. People wanted to know exactly how much that would equate to over the life of the loan. Why was it even there, etc.
The brother was completely floored, he hadn't anticipated people actually asking questions and had absolutely no answers. But they went ahead with the vote anyways and there was about 15 people that voted against it.
It was later explained that the hall is actually property of the congregation, but the Society holds the deeds in trust. If the whole congregation decides to become Baptist, then they have the right to demand the deed to the hall.
There were three congregations in that hall. Two went to the new one and the main congregation (the deed holder) sold the hall to finance building a new one.
There was alot of grumbling over that. The mortgage was split three ways for each congregation. One held the deed and the other two paid "rent" for it. When the old hall was sold, none of the "rent" money was returned or offered to the other two congregations. -

If I could make your dreams come true what would they be?
by Crumpet in5go's thread about atheists returning to god (or vomit as gregor puts it so well .
i would like everyone to have at least one long held dream or ambition come true.
or are you lucky enough to have made your dreams into substance already?.

If we're thinking realistic dreams and ambitions, I'd say I'm pretty on track for mine.
Most dreams take time. If you are patient and willing to work towards them, eventually you'll find yourself there.
My unrealistic dream however would be to live in the country on a large lot surrounded by mature trees. I say unrealistic because it collides with my other dream of a successful career. Currently I am pursuing the career route and look to be able to retire in the country. -

Dog fighting: What do you think of it?
by UnConfused infor me the concept of pitting animals together to fight, maim and rip the flesh off one another is beyond cruel and inhumane.
what do you think of dog fighting at all - does anyone out there condone or enjoy that type of "entertainment"?

As long as the animals are properly cared for, I have no problem with it. Like it or not, every animal fights, humans included.
A properly cared for and fed dog is more likely to mount the other canine then fight.
Take bets on who will be the humper and who will be the humpee IMO -

6.5 million witnesses
let's say that half are women and half are men.
3.25 million JW men
15% of those are minors
2,762,500 adult JW men
1 in every 102 JW males is registered at bethel as a pedophile.
That they know about.
So pick your congregation well, you'll have a 50% chance of getting a secretly registered pedophile in it!
